  1. Things just keep getting stranger and stranger and it really bothers me that so many things get terminated without any explanation for the audience. I'd love to talk to the show runners and ask them, "Please, could you just knock it off, would you please? I did not understand why Gabriel didn't ask Martha, "OK. I won't bother you again. But if you should ever wish to talk things over or allow me to introduce you to some people whose friendship you might enjoy, may I give you my address and phone number so that you can call me if you ever want to? How could that possibly ever hurt either one of them?
  2. The thing that intrigues me is why P told the priest he could not meet with him on a regular basis. Anyone care to guess what that could be about? Also, the priest seemed most genuine when he urged P to pray. So, my guess would be that he really is a priest. How could he possibly be involved with the KGB? Maybe he has some relatives back home who are being threatened with harm? I really react badly to this kind of stuff. It seems so probable that it's just another stupid red herring. I remember several others. Remember that lady with the drunken abusive husband who tried to interfere in the negotiations between Ellizabeth and his wife? That plot line had fantastic possibilities and I would have loved to have seen E kick his ass or something equivalent. But it was just dropped without a word of explanation? I thought that was just awful! Just pitiful. Shame. Shame. Very possible. But after all the talk about people who are more powerful than others, I'd guess it would be a faction of the govt. or some other group that we would be surprised to learn just how powerful they can be. Maybe even the CIA or some other country's intelligence group? It's another strange plot line and IMHO, it's just too late in the series to be opening new plot lines that go nowhere. Just give us some action, please? Please?
  3. Forgive my intrusion. But for any other readers who were curious as to the meaning of "weltschmerz", it means "a feeling of melancholy and world-weariness".
  4. I got the idea the scene with Martha was preparing us for the end of the show. The KGB has destroyed Martha's life. How much different would it have been to have put a bullet in her brain? I think that scene is designed to prepare us for the end when P & E are discovered and imprisoned and many of the other members of her org are all put away forever. Of course, I could easily be wrong about that. But the scene provides good justification for the destruction of the "Directorate S" program in American and prevent many of the audience to object about that.
  5. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2486678/ IMHO, this is a very special movie. It is only rated 7.1 on IMDB which is at least one full point below the rating I would give. For any young person (or anyone near the age of "young"), this film carries some wonderful and beautiful lessons about falling in love and loving another person. This film is about a young man who enters into a love affari with an older married woman. He is about 25 and she is about 33. They both come from very different worlds. She is from France and has two children. He is from New York and is a budding writer with a lot of talent. His father is very upset about this relationship. His mother who is played by Glenn Close loves this lady and I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't love her. She is amazing. A true angel here on earth. I was shocked to learn that it was Glenn Close who played the mother. I never would have recognized her. I watched the entire film twice before I learned the mother was played by Glenn Close. All the cast did a wonderful job and I suspect that most people who have ever contemplated falling in love will enjoy this film very, very much. I sure did! If you are a fan of The Americans (which I am), you will probably be very pleasantly surprised to learn that Frank Langella plays the role of the father and - My Oh My - was he ever great in this role!! But, of course, I think he has been great in every role he has ever played. So, go figure!
  6. OMG! Tarzan? I never even realized she was in that. It also stars Samuel L. Jackson and he only gets 5th billing on IMDB. I will def have to check this out. Thank you so much for the tip. I've skimmed thru parts of Z for Zachariah and she seems pretty good in that too. It's uncanny seeing her with long brown hair and hearing her speak with an American accent. Not just any accent but a strong Kentucky twang. Uncanny!
  7. OK. Sorry for any misunderstanding. I think you are right. She must be very intelligent to pull off some of the extremely diff characters that she has. If you see Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (which I would not particularly recommend), you can hardly recognize her as the same actor who she played in Suicide Squad.
  8. Charismatic is an excellent word to describe her. Ditzy? Under some circumstances and from some POV, I suppose. Personally, I find her talent close to Greatness.
  9. I would like to suggest that you do whatever is required for you to get the rest of the S1 episodes and watch them all. I suggest this to you knowing just how much more you are likely to enjoy this show after seeing all the episodes in the first season. That is my conclusion after thinking about just how much less I would enjoy this show if I missed seeing somewhere between one-third and one-half of the first season. Good luck and Happy viewing! Ain't this show spectacular? Given that all of us have the gift of hindsight, isn't it really better that we all have seen every single one of the episodes from the first season?
  10. I'd like to comment that when I saw this film, it was very much like seeing a comet streak through a summer's sky ... but in some other genre. For example, when Jesse Owens won all those gold medals in 1936, it seemed like the entire world was talking about nothing else. He was akin to a comet streaking through a summer sky. When The Beatles first hit the popular music scene ... same kind of thing. OK. What am I trying to say? It's about Margot Robbie. I have only ever seen 2 or 3 other actors who broke into the business with such a powerful "comet like" performance. I know she isn't the world's greatest actress like Meryl Streep might be. But, Holy Bleep! She has this amazing power and range that just puts all other young actresses to shame. I don't think hardly any of them can hold a candle to her in that respect. I sure do hope that someone here can do a better job of describing her kind of power. I know there must be a name for this condition. But I just can't find the name for that ability. Can anyone help me do that?
  11. Yes indeed! There is all the graft and kickbacks and racism and corruption and lying on the witness stand too! (Just j/k. I know that goes on to some degree in some police forces. But I've also met many fine human beings who are police officers.). I'd just love to find a way to know just what the national averages are wrt good cop vs bad cop.
  12. I saw two lady cops today in a patrol car. The driver barely came up to the steering wheel (in height). The passanger was much shorter - hardly even visible. I think there are laws now that force police departments to hire people of all shapes and sizes and genders and races, etc. There are many good arguments that the most important aspect of police work is almost entirely up to the brain and only rarely is a large man required to beat on an average sized criminal.
  13. Oh. Thank you. I missed that one. But not for long!
  14. Hey Kieyra, I appreciate very much the sentiments you expressed. Thanks for the info about Braindead. The tampon was a pretty stupid thing for the show runners to do. Surely they could have done something similar without actually showing the tampon and making half the audience puke. It bothers me because there was just no need to do that. They could have gotten their point across in many different ways. But overall, I'm just happy that MEW is working and is killing it in S3 of Fargo. I hope we will find big entertainment in this season.
  15. I loved the way Maurice said, "I think I covered my tracks pretty good." Heh. Heh. He ripped a page out of the phone book and it was the page that contained the name and address of the murder victim. How's that for covering your tracks? It's probably a real good thing that he died. The universe is probably a better place without someone that dim. Don't 'cha think?
  16. I understand your POV but I hope you are wrong about S3. It may well turn out they are building up to a very intricate story and are just showing a bunch of seemingly unrelated events to begin (like the opening of Episode One). I am hopeful this will be the best season so far. If the casting is any indication, it would seem to be true.
  17. I was intrigued by your post and so I watched the first two episodes of Braindead. I think there may be a real danger that viewers will associate Mary Elizabeth with her character who leaves a tampon calling card and get turned off this show or decide they don't want to watch her anymore. That would be most unfortunate because I think most people will be shocked at just how fabulously talented and entertaining she is. Braindead is one of the most original and most entertaining shows I've seen in ages and MEW's performance is definitely the highlight of the show. She is the star - without a doubt. If anyone here is looking for a terrific new show, I would like to recommend you check it out. The premise is amazing. I just hope they do more on the political situation in D.C. But as I understand, this board has eliminated all American political discussion (and understandably so since it just seems to lead to insane screaming matches between people who favor one candidate over the other) and so it would probably be best if I don't discuss that any further and instead just focus on MEW. She is absolutely amazing. I will try to watch everything I can get my hands on in which she appears. @Shapeshifter, thank you very much for for the info you posted. It has been some of the most valuable I've gleaned so far from this forum.
  18. I completely forgot about Roseanne's sister. I think she was one of the most talented of the cast - her and John Goodman. Now that I remember, I think that I would want to watch the revival just so I could see how she does. She's been in some really great shows since Roseanne went off the air. OMG! Upon re-reading this article, I see where Roseanne said that Becky would perhaps be working at Walmart. I always suspected there might have been some bad feelings resulting from Becky leaving the show (it seemed suddenly) to go and work for some humanitarian org. At least that was the impression I got. I don't exactly remember. But I think she left to join Peace Corps or Habitat for Humanity or some similar org. I don't think Roseanne was too happy about that. I recall some interviews that R. gave and she sure did not seem very happy about that. Now there is proof. She wants to see Becky working at Walmart in the revival. Wouldn't that be close to proof?
  19. I came across the following news item titled: ‘Roseanne’ Getting Revival With Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert & Co. http://deadline.com/2017/04/roseanne-revival-roseanne-barr-john-goodman-sara-gilbert-1202078883/ The item basically says the show is going to make a comeback - a revival. I'd like to pose the question: Do you think you would make a serious attempt to watch this show in 2017? IMHO, it was starting its decline long before it was cancelled and I can't imagine it being too entertaining in today's world. However, I will probably just read a few of your posts and opinions on this board after the first episode is broacast to see what you all think. If you seem to have enjoyed it, I wlll then probably take a look. But I would doubt this revival could be very entertaining. However, you just never know. Roseanne certainly does have some talent and there is always a chance she could pull it off. The one thing I wonder, is why would she wait so long before tackling another project? If she wanted to wok, why didn't she try to produce some other entertainment in all these years? The funny thing is that of all the characters in the original show, the only two that I'd like to see again Alicia Goranson (who played Becky) and Johnny Galecki (who is now starring in The Big Bang Theory). My guess is that both of these actors would not want to participate in any such revival. Galecki is busy with The Big Bang Theory and Goranson seemed to have developed strong feelings about leaving the show as well as most everything else Hollywood. Didn't she leave in order to join the Peace Corps or some similar org?
  20. Well. That might explain why someone would take up cheating. In my experience, a bridge team consists of at least four people. Competitions involve two of the pairs playing the NS hands at one table while the other two play the EW hands at another table. Then they compare the results of all four people. Its a fair approach because each pair in the team play the same hands against a pair from another team. So, if one pair has a cheating system in place, they could appear to be excellent players when they are in fact just excellent cheaters. Thing is, people are always on the lookout for cheaters. One of the greatest bridge players ever (and many would say he was the absolute best) was a British man named Terrence Reese. He was so good that he was accused of cheating and it really devestated his life. You can Google him and find out more about that. But if you ever read any of his books, you will understand why he was so great. I don't believe he would ever resort to cheating because he could win based on his talent. It remains a huge controversy. But maybe cheating is what Nikki has in mind. It would seem to fit her personality.
  21. I've spent many years playing at several diff levels and I've never heard of such a thing. I suppose some of the very top people might get book advances. But there are only about 10 to 20 people at any one time who write books. They may also earn money by teaching. But most would open their own schools and I've never heard of any sponsorship involved in that. Bottom line, for me is that I'd guess the writers would not just make up this stuff and they must have something specific in mind. I sure would love to know what that could be. It's a total mystery to me. I'm just sitting here scratching my head. The tampon is another head scratcher. I've never heard of a woman who would express any negative emotions by leaving a blood soaked product. I just can't imagine that. WTH is going on?
  22. Does anyone have any idea just what Nikki is trying to become? It might be a world championship bridge team (with her P.O. partner). But something just seems wrong there. I mean, if they compete together, they will be seen in public and someone will likely recognize them as the Parole Officer and the criminal. So, that would seem to be a problem. But, why would she seem to think she could become a high level player? She doesn't seem to spend most every waking hour reading and practicing and that is really required of anyone trying to become a serious bridge player. So, maybe - and this would seem to be highly likely - maybe she has a cheating system in place? It is not very difficult to cheat at bridge. But it is just such a foolish waste of time because there is no prize money given to the best players. The only way to make money by cheating is to find a pair of (wealthy) players who will play for money. But after two or three sessions of big losses, most any pair would get suspicious - or just get tired of losing money and break it off. I just find the entire bridge aspect of this season to be confusing. Can anyone shed any light on what is going on with Nikki and bridge?
  23. I'm also curious about that. Someone earlier in this thread said they were pulp magazines. But she had a very strong reaction to seeing them. Much stronger than if she was expecting a bunch of cash. So, I would suspect there is some history going on with the old man and the magazines. But if so, it will likely only be revealed in some future episode. I wouldn't get my hopes up though. This show seems to have red herrings that are never explained. Like the spaceships in Season 2.
  24. Does anyone know what the sheriff found in that box? What was she looking at? It looked like two magazines. Do you think Maurice opened those floorboards? I ask because when the sheriff was downstairs, she looked up at the ceiling in the general direction (up) of the floorboards.
  25. She kind of reminds me of Debbie from Survivor - if Debbie was mute.
