I like certain dark comedies. Eating Raoul is one of my favorite movies, and I love Kidding on Showtime. But I like most of the characters in Kidding, and the premise was just so absurd and surreal and laughable in Raoul. I can't say either of those things about Camping. It's just unpleasant.
I can't remember for sure but I don't think I ever saw Eating Raoul; I always meant to, thanks for the reminder! I'll have to see if I can track it down somewhere. I haven't seen it in years but a similar film I enjoyed from 95 was The Last Supper. Also, I would recommend Very Bad Things and Four Rooms. I've only watched the first episode of Kidding, so far....Never been a huge Jim Carey fan...but it's definitely an interesting premise and I plan on finishing it. I finally manged to to see the latest episode of Camping and I have to admit, it was probably my least favorite one so far. I'll be finishing out the season for sure, there are only three more to go and going by the premise/plot, I don't see how it can go more than one season unless each season is a new trip; I could see that wearing very thin, very fast.

Me too....I really loved it and put it on dvr season pass. I lol and think Jennifer Garner is great in it. Such a departure from how we have seen her...also loving Juliette Lewis and all of the guys too.
Move over, I need a seat on this bench! I checked it out mainly for David Tennant; when I saw Dunham's name in the opening credits I expected it to suck but I think it's brilliant! It's a dark comedy, my absolute favorite kind. Every board for every dark comedy I watch seems to be filled with people saying negative things about the show and I can't help but thinking they just don't get it. I can understand it not being your thing, and that's fine, but it doesn't mean it's bad. I love it, my only complaint is I can't find episode five to watch anywhere; was* the airdate changed or something?

Oh, not a popular choice at all, guaranteed, lol, because it's too late for it now. It should have been done somewhere in season seven or early season eight to have any impact or make any sense. Gimple and friends gimped it up by only ever presenting a one dimensional cartoon villain instead of a real, flawed human being with sociopathic tendencies trying to fill a void created by everything he lost. Having him cry about it now....I guess because all that quiet time in the cell allowed him to reflect(?)....just came off as almost comical to me, not believable in the least, which is why I hope He was playing her. Unfortunately, I fear it's more likely that Angela* Kang is just trying to do the best she can with the dumpster fire she inherited.
Seeing how Negan dethroned Simon and rose to power WOULD be interesting but again it should have been a part of his initial arc. Far better than the "all out war" of plot contrivance and stupidity that was served up. To go back and explore it now would be an exercise in futility and serve no real purpose other than to completely halt any improvement progress the show may have made. Better to accept what has passed and move ever forward.

Pretty much all of this gets a nod from me. Murder House through to Freak Show were all pretty even, I thought, but I remember feeling Asylum had the overall edge. Musicals don't really bother me, depending on subject matter (Sweeney Todd was awesome!) but I don't recall any musical acts in Asylum - I need to go back and watch them all to see how they hold up. Agreed with 'Liz Taylor' and Kathy Bates being the best parts of Hotel, along with Evan Peters as March and the hotel itself. I didn't hate it but..... Hotel through to Apocalypse is kind of like a Shit Burger, where the best part is the stale wonderbread bun-halves of Hotel and Cult, Roanoke is the cow-flop patty and Apocalypse is the dried horse turd garnish on a toothpick which at least affords you the option of poking your eyeballs out. Again, I'd have to re-watch but I think I'd give a slight edge to Cult over Hotel because I remember feeling the narrative was more coherent and I liked the subject matter if not the characters so much.

A friend of mine bailed halfway through and I'm pretty sure this had something to do with it. She said the plot made zero sense and she was done, never to return. As it stands, I think I'm about ready to dust off the old steel toes and put them on the warmer myself, lol. ;)

Sooo.... Does the blatant misandry and overtly feminist bullshit messaging ever get dropped or curbed? There is a fairly intriguing premise here but I can't see it holding my interest if it stays mired in that garbage rhetoric. Female superiority doesn't correlate to gender equality; it can be played for humor but these writers appear incapable of that. You'd think a show that's championing the cause of a non binary character like Suzie would be more careful about sending mixed signals. Hopefully, they stop using ink laden jackhammers to carve out this nonsense and get on with telling a great story.
I get the necessity for the human friends and all, no real issue with it, but the witch stuff and all the family background is definitely more interesting.
Also, Harvey needs to stop calling her 'Brina; he sounds like a dumbass.

Some kind of soap powder to clean himself off; they didn't show it but he would have been hosed a second time to rinse it off. Historically, I believe this was fairly common treatment of new prisoners on intake, a form of psychological and physical abuse to put them in their place, let them know who's in charge and keep them in line..... At least that's what many prison themed movies would have you believe, I'm sure it's rooted in truth. As to why the show did it, I'd say partly in homage to any old films that contained such a scene, partly to show how evil the warden and his staff/prison is and mainly as another anachronistic element that allows Riverdale to be a town out of any time and no time all at once.

Lol, at the risk of being off topic, Micheal Cudlitz has new show called The Kids Are Alright, for those who didn't know. He plays the dad in a catholic family with like 9 sons. It's set in the seventies and it's pretty funny, I think.

My biggest problem was the Plot Horse that miraculously overcame it's fears after dumping Rick onto the rebar of tragic convenience. .....Meh, so be it. I enjoyed it far more than I expected to, considering Gimple's direct involvement with the story, but I do have mixed feelings about it. Having Andrew Lincoln's leaving the show be so well covered by the press and social media took away much of the emotional weight I should have felt, and would have, had it come as a total shock or surprise. Seeing Michonne and company see Rick "die" did tug a bit at the heart strings, but not as much as it was probably supposed to....Deep down, too, a part of me knew, or at least felt, that he would somehow persevere. I'm cool with it, I kind of like the idea that he's still out there, somewhere. The problem with it, though, is now that he and Anne are apparently with the helicopter folk, how does the show continue that story line without showing them/him? As I recall, no one else has ever seen the helicopter, so will the show just drop that thread and have it picked up by these expanded universe movies? Personally, I'm willing to give it a shot but they are putting an awful lot of faith in an audience that has been in a steady decline for the better part of three seasons now and , based on this thread, is clearly divided on whether or not they are even willing to continue watching the mother ship.
Negan......I feel like the lone fool on the hill who ever enjoyed Negan in all his long-winded, ham-fisted, scenery chewing glory. I say fool because while I enjoyed his dialogue and how JDM relished in delivering every ridiculous word, the character has had zero development from that first swing of Lucille. Sure, we know that was his wife's name and that she died but we know nothing of their lives or the circumstances that drove him to become this maniacal dictator. I knew that Maggie wouldn't end up killing him, that something would make her change her mind, that's like Tropes 101. Couple that with "his living mental anguish is a far worse punishment than death" and it becomes hindsight 20/20 obvious. What I can't be sure of is if he played her with reverse psychology or if his anguish is genuine. If he played her, why not try to escape once she pulled him out of the cell, what's the advantage of going back in? Conversely, How do we believe he's that broken and distraught over his dead wife when we've been given no context for what their life was like, other than him regretting he was a bad husband? Anything that alluded to it was superficially glossed over at best. I have no issue with villains being given a redemption arc, but at least give the audience a reason to possibly care.
The new people and the time jump has me most conflicted of all. On the one hand, it gives the show a much needed new direction and potential shot of adrenaline but it expects us to believe or accept that nothing of any significance happened in those six years? I suppose they could go the flashback route for important plot points or character development (preferably not) or more likely rely on boring exposition, but most likely these apparent movie one-offs and side stories will cover much of that. Again, they are putting a lot of faith in a fractured and discontent fan base. Initially I was not happy to see the new people as on more than one occasion I've said they need to thin the herd and there* are already people introduced that have yet to be developed. Also, Dan Fogler (Luke) works in small doses at best, mostly he's annoying AF. If he's anything like most characters he's played, he needs to die a quick, irrelevant Zach McGowan-esque death, ASAP. It took a split second to realize the little girl was Judith (it was late, I was tired, don't judge!) and my first thought was "WHY?!! Fuck you Gimple, what was the point of bringing FTWD up to speed with TWD and the talk of a crossover if you're just going to time jump again?! Hoodwinks And Shenanigans?! This just screws that!" - I guess Morgan WAS the crossover - That said, I immediately bought into Judith as a wise beyond her years, kick ass kid and I started to get a bit excited; they're clearly setting her up to be the character Carl should've been and I think If they handle it right, it could be something of a tribute to Carl, and by extension Chandler Riggs, rather than a disservice to him and the work he did. For the most part, I think Angela Kang has done a great job so far as the new show-runner; "What Comes Next" was Gimple's story, by and large, so I can't fault her for any of it's short comings. Ultimately, I'm looking forward to seeing where she takes it, but with Scott M Gimple still in the position of dimwitted Supreme Overseer, I do so with trepidation.

I disagree. Like I said, It may not have started healthy, but where they left off when Mickey bailed to Mexico was when Ian was at his best. I forget all the details, I can't remember what Mickey did that caused him to run but it seems to me that he was also in a pretty good place, otherwise. They may not have ever been truly great but they were probably as good as they were going to get in Gallagher world. Honestly, I wasn't' expecting it to happen, nor was I ever hoping and praying that it would - I'd barely even heard that CM was leaving - but I like that they left him somewhere, again ironically, where he and Mickey might be able to get back to that point and possibly even grow.

In all likelihood it's a definite possibility. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think it would be a terrible idea, personally. JJS was a colossal douche-nozzle; Fiona was likeable at times but they were both garbage people and together they were a dumpster fire. They already brought him back from the dead once in fan service and almost had her leave with him but she realized she was already a better person and better off without him. To do it a second time would be a complete waste of all the growth she's had, which despite her frequent and ongoing stumbles, I believe has been fairly significant. From what I understand, ER isn't leaving completely; I believe she has said she will still be around in a diminished capacity and I don't see the point of bringing JC back and having them start over, if that's the case. That said, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they do decide to bring him back and have them live happily stupid after. I just don't want them to.
