I'd like to think Scott Bakula knew enough about the show to realize it wasn't worth trying to legitimize as a continuation of his show by associating himself with it.

It could have been a speculative article but I have a vague memory of him saying as much when asked if he would be reprising his role.Β

This announcement has been a bit surreal for me, lol. I only decided to finish watching the season the day before and was in the middle of bingeing* when I decided to check the status because I was enjoying the Ben/Hannah dynamic so much. I was a tad shocked and dismayed to see the news was only 2 hours old!πŸ«€πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜† The ending was only so/so and it was never must see tv but I enjoyed it enough that I probably would've checked out a third season. The cast was mostly good, hopefully they end up on better shows.

I loved the comments about the BB gun and shooting an eye out.Β  It would have been funny if they could have gotten Peter Billingsley to play Josh.

It may have been amusing but it made zero sense. This took place in 1970, A Christmas Story didn't come out until 1983. Ben is the only one who could have logically made that reference and given his propensity for not being discrete, I'm a little surprised they didn't have him say it. Either way, it's bad writing and took me right out of the show.

As for Hannah, Ben, Egypt and did they or didn't they, I just watched these two back to back and my impression is no. Hannah made a move to indicate she wanted to but Ben shut her down, saying something to the effect of he didn't think it was a good idea. If I missed something more subtle and I'm proven wrong, so be it but I don't think they did.

Ben the physicist has tons more chemistry with physicist Hannah than he ever had with soldier Addison

I'm playing catch-up. I just watched this episode and came to see if anyone mentioned it. I didn't expect it to be right in the top postπŸ˜†

I can't decide if Addison's new guy is sketchy or not, lol, guess I'll have to wait and see.

Who ever said there's no way they could wrap it up in one episode?

    It wasn't me!....πŸ€”was it? πŸ˜†

It happened, as I surmised last week, the only way it could, with something of a time jump and some exposition, albeit in somewhat of a unique, intercut fashion.

    Terry O'Quinn makes everything better.

Rick proves he's more Glenn than Glenn by not only surviving a dumpster made of walkers but also blowing said walker dumpster up while still inside and walking away without a scratch.

Why leave the prosthetic behind? I guess it's supposed to symbolize his rejection of echelon and the CRM and maybe that he's going home to a peaceful life but c'mon! Who's he kidding besides himself?! There's always going to be something or someone and that thing can do some serious damage...though I suppose the stump would start to hurt after Balboa-ing enough dudes to death.

That's about it, for now....I need to get some sleep, lol. I will say, in spite of my expectations, I did get a little joyfully choked up at the reunion. The character callbacks throughout were a nice touch, to.

I was hoping Jadis would admit there never was a dossier.

I half expected her to say that too. I also had to wrack my brain a little bit to remember her and Gabriel were a thing. How bad was the chemistry that everyone seems to have forgotten?🀣

Jadis keeps referencing Alexandria but most of the Alexandrians moved to the Commonwealth after they took it over.

Assuming they even have any knowledge of the Commonwealth existing, would any of them be aware of that? Jadis, Rick and Michonne all left Alexandria long before those events took place, if I'm not mistaken. It's hard sometimes to reconcile what we as an audience knows versus what the characters know, lol.

  7. I really got the overwhelming sense that we were supposed to sympathize with and have empathy for Jadis.... 😢

    🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣 Etc, etc.

    Whatever.

Overall, the stupidity was kept to a bare minimum, I thought, though that's really not saying much. The usual suspects have already pointed out anything I noticed so, no point in rehashing any of that. I don't normally watch the previews or episode recaps but I took a second look at the potential burial site and then skipped ahead to the recap. I couldn't help but eyeroll at Gimple waxing poetic about it all as if they achieved Shakespearian grandiosity (listen to me!... When in Rome, I guessπŸ˜†) Pollyanna seems like a cool person but it was kind of funny to hear her talk about what an awesome character Jadis was... I guess she was a lot of fun for her to play, with how ridiculous she was and convoluted she became.

The only way I see this ending in one more episode is if they open next week with some kind of events montage and/or some exposition voiceover facilitating a mini time jump - nothing drastic, don't come at me!😜 - something that gets us into the thick of it. Unfortunately, that's not something this universe seems able to easily do and for all the complaining I do, I find myself enjoying it enough that I wouldn't mind if they kept it going at least a little longer. Maybe a second season, anyway.

Same, but you know, dollars to donuts...πŸ‘€πŸ˜’...those folks are out there, somewhere...perhaps even here, lurking in secret, on this very board...😏😜

i assume Danai is writing the dialogue but working to the show runners' designated plot points

Yeah, this is what I meant by her being Gimpled by the Gimpleness of it all. The dialogue was great, very poignant and passionate for both characters and as much as I complain and poke fun at Rick losing his "balls", it does make sense that he'd have a bit of Stockholm syndrome by now. In real life I'm sure that's not easy or quick to break but in reel life it seemed to take forever. Just reuniting with Michonne felt like it should've been enough to start to snap him out of it. Learning about RJ should've been enough to fully break him...or unbreak him, as it were. The overarching plot was just more Scott Gimple Swiss cheese.

Not plot related but one inconsistency I noticed that nobody has mentioned...correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it established that one of the greatest walker attractants is noise? If so, shouldn't the zombies have been drawn towards the building across the way when the CRM showed up in a second helicopter and blew up the evidence of the crashed helicopter? I mean, you know, instead of waiting for the shockwave reverberations to knock out the glass doors so they could conveniently attack our plucky heroes?

    Fuckin' Gimple.πŸ™„

  9. "What would Carl say if he were here?"

What happened to your balls, old man?!, probably. 😏

I'm kinda with @OoohMaggieΒ on this one. The acting was fairly superb and Danai's script was great -never knew she was a writer til now- but Rick's excuse seemed hollow and stupid. I can't help but think she was Gimpled by the Gimpleness of it all. How the guy responsible for the worst seasons of the mothership got to be overlord of the entire universe is one of life's great mysteries that I can't foresee ever being solved.

πŸ€”... To be clear, I didn't hate it, I rather enjoyed it, for the most part; there were just a lot of eyeroll worthy moments of stupidity.

why is he not simply telling her the truth?Β

    Yes! This, exactly!πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Well, let me tell you why...because Scott Gimple's an idiot who emasculated Rick so he could see himself on tv and he needed to have Michonne perform the totally realistic, easily survivable act of throwing the two of them out of a helicopter flying god knows how many miles high up, in the middle of nowhere during a thunder storm in the dead of night.πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

Up until then, I pretty much enjoyed it.

Michonne: when I find Rick, you're all coming back to live with us.

    Michonne: you're pregnant.

By the end of the show, I had the feeling the actor was either deaf or had a speech impediment. He did so many monologues that the cadence of his speech became really noticeable. That made me look at him speaking and I could see the effort he was putting into forming his words. I liked him though.

    Β

Some interesting points, for sure. Maybe he was going for a specific accent or trying to hide a real oneπŸ€”πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ. I didn't actually dislike him either, he seemed like someone who ultimately didn't trust the system and could've been an ally but by the end I was just annoyed with him because I found him so hard to understand, lol.

Yeah, there's also the bit where the plumber guy he's knownΒ  since getting to the CRM says 'hey, why not just play along with theΒ  whole being a soldier thing and then take the chance to run off when you're out on a mission or something' and you can literally see the cogs in ricks mind working like this is some sort of great revelation.

    Β

Oh my god, I was practically yelling this at the screen while he was monologueing before he even met up with plumber dude! So much stupidity in the first ten minutesπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ... UghπŸ™„, I forgot simple gimple was showrunning this; my high hopes went straight out the 🀬ing window...it's a good thing I live on the ground floor🀣. It got better in the middle then it got stupid again at the end. For whatever reason and what it's worth, I found the south African actress much easier to understand than commander cloak and dagger until Rick kicked the cotton balls out of his mouth for a brief moment. What a shame he's dead now.😏

  14. I think my favourite bit of logic was Troy with a 2 inch diameter tree branch through his chest, mere inches from his heart and out the back of his shoulder blade, and Madison says something about that's going to make it hard to WALK! She then proceeds to pull it out which gives him the super human ability to painlessly operate a shovel to bury his zombie wife without even losing a single drop of blood.

  15. This was all kinds of hilarious in it's ridiculous stupidity. I'm not going to break it down because I didn't realize it was a two parter and I'm up way later than I should be but... I said "oh, fuck off!" at least five times before Tracy shot Madison. That little exchange probably brought the second biggest gale of laughter...the biggest was reserved for the moment I realized they were going to have the medal in the empty clip stop the bullet, followed by another five "fuck offs" when it it was revealed to be exactly what happened.🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣☠️

All that said, I was surprised to find myself ever so slightly watery-eyed at the end of it all. That last five or ten minutes was probably the best thing the show has done in the last two seasons.

  16. How the f🀬 does the death of a foul mouthed, f🀬ed up Robotman rip my heart out and make me a blubbering mess more than anything else in this ending?🀣😭😭😭 It was depressingly brilliant, I don't know if I loved it or hated it, which is probably Appropriate Patrol😏 I do know this; my planned series rewatch is going to be much delayed having witnessed this conclusion. It's far too fresh and raw.

-That was Padrino's wife. We saw her pregnant this season several times. He looked concerned because they have 2 older kids and they're both a bit older themselves.

-That was Bishop that visited Padrino in the hospital. Cristobal is Miguel and Emily's young son. Bishop and Padrino have always been close, they call each other Primo which means cousin in Spanish.Β

-Funny how fast forwarding shit has a direct causal relationship to not remembering characters and plot points.πŸ™„

-Michael Irby, the actor who plays Bishop, also plays a character named Cristobal on the show "Barry", with Bill Hader. This was a failed attempt at humor.😏

I feel like this episode was directly inspired by Glenn's real life experience with his Tesla being stuck in a parking garage about a few months ago. If you don't listen to the podcast it's the one Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack.Β

I had no idea... I really need to start listening to that.

This was brilliant, I related to it so hard, as I'm sure many did. Ironically, my near breakdown came from a rare visit to my doctors office wherein I discovered they ONLY take cash, which I almost never carry...or rather used to. Now I make sure to always have a few bills in case of emergency...for however long that will be a viable option.πŸ™„πŸ˜‘πŸ˜†
