  1. And with Alchemy Project (2022), which was basically collabs with other bands, completed Epica discography. Best songs in the album:

    As always, subjective assessments:

    2. Consign to Oblivion (Expanded Edition) (2005) - 7.8/10 [Best songs: Force of the Shore, Mother of Light - A New Age Dawns 2 & Trois Vierges]

    5. Requiem for the Indifferent (2012) - 8/10 [Best songs: Storm the Sorrow, Guilty Demeanour, Deter the Tyrant, Serenade of Self-Destruction & Nostalgia]

    6. The Quantum Enigma (2014) - 6.4/10 [Best songs: Chemical Insomnia, Reverence - Living in the Heart, Canvas of Life, Natural Corruption & The Quantum Enigma - Kingdom of Heaven, Part II]

    11. The Alchemy Project (2022) - 5.7/10 [Best song: The Miner]

    Average Score: 7.1/10

  2. 9th Epica Album "The Score 2.0 - An Epic Journey" (2017), which is, as I understood it, an instrumental soundtrack for a movie probably. The album technically consists of 40 songs, but from 21st track it just remastered versions of previous songs in the album.

  3. Akira Kurosawa Drunken Angel (1948). A movie about a small town's doctor trying to help out a member of the yakuza, who has tuberculosis, but is reluctant to take treatment, because healthy life-style gonna crash with his hedonism... I'm not gonna lie, out of all Kurosawa's movies that I've seen since 1943 and up to 1948, this one had the most quality and was the most interesting so far. I even would say that disregarding the action scenes in the end, it holds up even by today's standards. And, what surprised me, is that this movie does not re-use the same actors from previous of his movies; well, I'm lying, I think the actor who played the father in the No Regrets for Our Youth (1946) is playing the small town's doctor, but, mainly, that's it.

  4. Sixth Epica album "The Quantum Enigma" (2014).IMO, it's their best album in terms of production, sound and lyrics so far. Best songs:

  5. And with The Bitter Truth (2021), completed Evanescence discography. The last album was... in alright, I guess? At least it had ton of new songs as opposed to all others that I've listened to since Open Doors lol.

As always, subjective assessments of each album:

    1. Fallen (2003) - 6.7/10

    2. The Open Door (2006) - 6.9/10

    3. Evanescence [DELUXE EDITION] (2011) - 5.6/10

    4. Lost Whispers (2016) - 6.7/10

    5. Synthesis (2017) - 6.9/10

    6. The Bitter Truth (2021) - 8.3/10*

    * While I did not find any of the songs to be that good to warrant such a high score, however, since this time they actually made some new songs, this album stood out the most. However, my complaint, ever since their 3rd album, is that most of their songs and vocals sound exactly the same...

  6. Well, listened to penultimate album from Evanescence and this is their second or third album that they simply do their old songs in different style. Am I even allowed to say that I find this lazy?

Evanescence was my thing when I was a teenager. I could probably still remember all the texts from Fallen and Open Door, plus several pre-Fallen songs that I downloaded from some sketchy website.

The more I listen to them, the more I realize that, sadly, Amy Lee did not create anything better since Fallen album (at least for me)... Though, only three albums in; here's hoping to hear at least something on par with their first album... But I get the feeling it will be a Within Temptation thingy...

  8. Started Evanascence discography. I actually still have their first CD somewhere along with Live in Paris DVD lol. Nostalgia is hard thing, especially when you haven't listened to a band in decades. At first glance, the album for me was 10/10, but after a second hearing, nah, handful of songs went out from Spotify library list ;)

Well, yes, I got that part; I just couldn't understand the whole dream within a dream, and what Robert (Cillian Murphy) and his uncle (Tom Berenger) had to do with it? Ultimately, Leo had to go back and save his OLD dream self and to wake up? Like, whuuut?

    Spoiler

I think that Leo got stuck in the dream in the end or he was living inside the dream all this time. That last scene with that spinny thing never stopping to spin...

So I watched Inception last night. Can someone PLEASE explain to me just what in the HELL that movie was about?!!!!!

    Spoiler

About a technology, which lets the user access people's minds through their dreams and influence/gather information? Also, if you are not careful, you gonna get stuck there until your body in the real world dies and/or vice versae?

That's at least what I remember.

  11. So, Norah Jones released her newest album a couple of days ago called Visions (2024). Decided to listen to it. Well, it's classic Norah Jones jazz/blues songs. I think it's more or less on par with her penultimate album, which I've rated before.

    5.8/10

  12. Just finished watching Basketball Diaries (1995) with L. Dicaprio. Never watched it before, so imagine my surprise that it was not about basketball, but about teen junkies getting more and more high to a point of total degradation... It was very edgy to say the least (not as edgy as, let's say, Trainspotting, but more or less within the same level of ickiness). Though, it was entertaining to watch this train wreck of a life the main character leads,

    Spoiler

and, unlike Trainspotting, it does have a happy ending...

I also love this one from our local singer, she was big for a while in 90's and early 2000's, then kind of vanished from the music scene. I loved the song even as a kid when I didn't relate to the lyrics yet 🙃. (Translation of the name: I want to play fair.)

    Translation:

I am not one of those who can be

    sweet, gentle and innocent.

    Pretending that everything is ok.

Even when the love has lost its plot.

    So understand me.

You will manage, I hope, to be alone for a while.

You have known for a long time that I am not one to be

faithful to only one love for ever and ever.

That is not me, so why waste any useless words.

I want to play fair, not a fake, awkward show.

    So understand me.

You will manage, I hope, to be alone for a while.

    Chorus:

You want to have the one you dream about.

    The one you'll never loose.

But I'm not the giving type.

Please let go of me, I have to go.

You know well that I'm no angel.

So understand that and make peace with it.

I want to be free while I can.

I want to play fair, so make peace with it.

    So make peace with it...

I am not one of those who can be

    sweet, gentle and innocent.

That is not me, so why waste any useless words.

I want to play fair, not a fake, awkward show.

    So understand me.

You will manage, I hope, to be alone for a while.

    Chorus 3x:

You want to have the one you dream about.

    The one you'll never loose.

But I'm not the giving type.

Please let go of me, I have to go.

You know well that I'm no angel.

So understand that and make peace with it.

I want to be free while I can.

I want to play fair, so make peace with it.

    Is it Czech?
