  1. Don't fast forward through the first part! It's one of the most beautiful love songs ever written (originally sung by Nat King Cole) and the Turners do it justice (they are the obvious singers of the cast). Thanks for sharing the link!
  2. Tom's stag party included a trip to the greyhound race track. Dog racing attracts many many more people because most working class folks can afford to go (not like thoroughbred racing). Betting is fierce and can be very lucrative, as Tom proved (although choosing runners by name is an amateur move lol...)
  3. Absolutely. English is a melting pot of french, danish, norwegian, gaelic, angle and saxon!
  4. Use of "Mr" is an honorific title and inplies higher status. From Wiki: In the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and in some Commonwealth countries (such as South Africa, New Zealand and some states of Australia), many surgeons use the title Mr (or Miss, Ms, Mrs, as appropriate), rather than Dr (Doctor). Until the 19th century, earning a medical degree was not required to become a qualified surgeon. Hence the modern practice of reverting from Dr back to Mr after successfully completing qualifying exams in surgery (e.g., Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons) is a historical reference to the origins of surgery in the United Kingdom as non-medically qualified barber surgeons.[4]
  5. Spoilers!! Well, Llywela, you were right: satisfying conclusion. I did enjoy the last two episodes much more than the first two in this season.
  6. Do you follow Andrew Larsen's blog? An Historian Goes to the Movies (https://aelarsen.wordpress.com) Andrew does an excellent job of reviewing movies and TV for historical relevance and accuracy (or not). He also provides links to what he considers good additional reading materials which I've found invaluable and educational. Andrew is a medieval historian btw. He hasn't done The Last Kingdom yet but if you are willing to make a donation to his blog, he will review things by request (he did Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, and I Claudius for me.)
  7. I'm finding the stories, as regards the killers, a bit too predictable. I hope they "clever" this up for the rest of the season...
  8. Series 3 on BBC started this past Wednesday. Interesting format: 30 mins before "the news" and 30 minutes afterwards. I like that they've kept welsh conversations in welsh and just sub-titled them.
  9. Sister HILD, not Brida (Brida is Ragnar's wife/significant other) and given Hild has turned Revenge Incarnate, I don't think she's particularly bound by any religious mores regarding the priest beyond being initially horrified. Dunhold is not Durham. It's a fictitious stronghold east of Cumbria and just south of the Scottish wall.
  10. OMG, you have me spitting coffee, Razzberry! Soooo enjoying your snarks!
  11. Dear Razz, loving your recaps! Don't stop please.
  12. Oh that is sad news. End of an era and no more cameos.
  13. Storm in a teacup. You'd think this was a world crisis. Jeez, you have an administrative screwup and expect Beatty to think on his feet (he did well, IMO). As Kimmel said, it's just an award show for goodness sakes.
  14. That Jack the Ripper thing is just a redo of the Malcolm McDowell/David Warner film of the same name. Good movie but I can't see a series being a good thing.
  15. Am I the only one who wishes that they wouldn't thank their parents and their third grade teachers in acceptance speeches?
  16. I'm enjoying this. It's a nice break, and everyone seems to be enjoying it. Remember, it's only 7:21pm on this coast...
  17. The Loneliness of A Long Distance Runner as a Date Movie????? Tom, Tom, Tom........ I love the movie (Tom Courtney, sigh) but it's hardly going to inspire togetherness, happiness, or passion in your date!
  18. Maybe Brooke's path is to follow Kristen and win from LCK? I'm not able to view LCK yet so who knows. I don't care for Shirley but I loved her husband!!! PS I hope Sheldon wins.
  19. I'm having trouble streaming these from the ITV Hub -- it's saying this and the next episode are not available. Anyone else having an issue?
  20. Brooke really doesn't know what "whimsical" means (actually I don't think anyone on Top Chef does). I was screaming at the screen every time she used the word. And yeah, I don't think any of them understood mashup and brunch. I'm so pissed off that Silva got cut but I do hope he finds redemption in LCK. John is a whining weasel. And so is Shirley (not the weasel bit), to be honest. Could she have whined any more tonight?
