  1. I'd love to watch a Once-esque TV show about Greek mythology... with a different crew of writers, of course. I want to get into the meat of the drama between the gods. There's a twisted family tree there that gives Henry a run for his money.

I have LOVED Greek mythology since I was a little girl. Athena is my patron saint (well, goddess).Talk about a soap opera. I thought the 1997 Odyssey miniseries was good because it stayed somewhat true to the source material. Still, that doesn't really deal with the Titans, gods and goddesses of Olympus and demigods. Clash of the Titans (I've only seen the original film) was disappointing, The Hercules and Xena TV series played fast and loose with the stories. So, I would love some epic series or mini series based purely on the Greek myths handed down for eons.

On a separate note, I have been thinking of introducing my 7-year-old niece to Greek mythology. I don't know if she's still too young, but I remember starting to read them at a pretty young age. Of course a lot of the stories are PG-13. I don't think the Percy Jackson books are the way to go just yet, so if anyone has a recommendation for a good, early introduction to the myths, I'd be grateful.

  2. Heh. I didn't post as much back then, but I remember a few times I had to throw out my love for "Captain Floor." And whenever someone complained that he was an ineffectual slapstick villain, I tried to point out that he was supposed to be an ineffectual villain because he's actually more of a hero at heart.

I remember Captain Floor! Maybe that's where my love began.

  3. I would love a prequel that focused on Neverland. We totally got shafted on that front, especially with Tink, and the lost boys. What did happen to Ruffio? He could have adventures in Neverland, as well as the EF, and they could also show flashbacks to his time in the Royal Navy, or as a pirate before he got the hook. They could do so much! I think Hook was more adventurous, fun, and interesting pre-Emma, sadly, so yea, I would love a spin-off! Think of all the possibilities! And then the "Once Upon a Hook" haters could go away, although they'd probably still watch just to find ways to call him a rapist.

A Neverland prequel has a lot of possibilities. Or I could see something in the present day with Hook being sent to another world, with the possibility of getting back to Emma. Basically, his entire Lost Year journey, but bigger. Perhaps he has to go around righting wrongs in this other world, or he opens a supernatural detective agency. ETA: with Tink and Red!

  4. Thanks for the replies.  :)  So, overall, it's sort of been "Enh" not "Aaaah!"  Since A&E seem to pay attention, I wonder what they're taking away from all this.  They seem to aim for a riled up, excited fandom.  "Enh" is the opposite of excited.

Really?  There's a recapper that thinks that?  Truly?  Because while I can see A&E pulling a last minute bait and switch, I've noticed absolutely no foreshadowing of that at all, and Carlyle's been pretty vocal about not wanting it.

Is there logic to it, or is it wishful delusion?

Definitely wishful delusion of a Rumple fangirl. :) I mean, she cited examples along the lines of when Cruella offered to slit Regina's throat, he didn't let her. Also the recapper found his little visit to Sleeping Belle touching (ptooey). But the other recappers with her were like, "Uhhh...okaaaay."

That said, I could see A&E pulling something like that. Of course, a man who (IN JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS) has a young boy kidnapped, tortures a man, steals another man's identity and spies on and dupes his wife into giving him a lethal weapon is totally on the path to redemption.

  5. I know on this board several of us have had serious issues with how this half season is going, but we're one litt corner of the Internet. Anyone have a sense of how it's playing out in the wider world?

While I haven't been checking Reddit or other boards this season, I have been listening to one of the Once podcasts and AfterBuzz TV recaps each week. They're definitely different corners of the fandom,a nd sometimes I have to wonder if they're watching the same show we are. Not to say I totally disagree with them, though. Sometimes I actually agree quite a lot. I should point out, that the recappers also seem to be completely unspoiled.

From what I can tell, this last episode got a really lukewarm reception from all the recappers. Everyone was confused about something. But, most of them seem pretty intrigued by what's going to happen next. Also, everyone seems to agree that CaptainSwan is being handled nicely, also that they love Regina's redemption arc. Plus they're surprised by Snowing's secret, but I haven't heard anyone express disgust or hatred towards them.  And then you have the one recapper who is totally convinced that all of Rumple's actions indicate that his going to turn good once and for all...Yeah.

  6. TI'm going to show my extreme Hook-bias here, but my ultimate wish is for this show to focus a half season arc on his character - similar to what they did with Zelena and the Snow Queen. Screw bringing in a random villain no one knows about and will ultimately leave by the end of the season anyways. Why not explore a character who's already on the show, already well-liked, and has a ton of interesting past stories we've never seen play out on screen? You have Colin freaking O'Donoghue (who, in my opinion, is knocking it out of the park with upping his acting game this season), so why not utilize him more?

I'll go one further and say my ultimate wish is for a Hook spin-off series.

Regarding Colin, I hope when this show finally ends, we get to see him in film roles or another series worthy of his talents.

  7. So exactly why does Rumple need to turn Emma dark before the Author can write a happy ending for the villains again?

My guess is that Rumple's plan is totally different from what he's told us so far. We'll probably find out later he didn't even need to find the Author to carry out his plan, he just needed an excuse to get back inside the Storybrooke town line.

That was the question bothering me this morning. So we can forget the whole "Will Emma go dark?" thing they've been promoting because Rumple's just being a selfish prick as usual.

  8. This episode was mostly a confusing mess, but I didn't totally hate it.. At least we got some questions answered. So, maybe I'm wrong but I thought that the Author/Peddler didn't so much manipulate the stories as meddle in them. Call me crazy, but it's made me a little more interested in this plot now that's we're no longer looking for the Author.

I really felt for Mal, and I might be the only one, but I'm looking forward to them finding Lily. I also hope we get to see Ursula and Cruella's first days in our world.

And, yuck, Rumple. What is it with him and his constantly unconscious wife? But his little speech did give me hope that he might actually die.

And, seriously, can we get the real Snowing back? I miss them.

  9. So "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion" (love this movie) has been on ABC Family this week. I just realized Kristin Bauer van Straten plays one of the mean girls.

And a bit late, but I caught Merrin Dungey in an old Seinfeld rerun a while back. She plays a Brentano's cashier in "The Bookstore" episode. She looked stunning.

  10. I say the CSers should throw a giant celebration whether they win or get 2nd.

I feel bad for those who are voting so hard in the E Online poll. Something is definitely weird there. I voted with just multiple tabs, typing the captcha word as usual and the % didn't move up at all. But just a casual browsing of the #CaptainSwan tag on Twitter, you can see that there are certain fans voting against them. Who knows. I personally vote FOR something I like rather than against, but that's just me.

That said, if CS takes second place, the shippers should be very proud of themselves. There is nothing shabby about that.

  11. Found this on tumblr. With the multi-tab method, the captcha word in the first tab can be use to fill the answer for all the duplicated tabs (even if the word is different in the duplicate tabs). So, a simple Ctrl+C--Ctrl+V should work. Makes the voting go faster. I checked the html source doce (thanks Fab!), but the numbers hold steady for a bit. So, I couldn't tell if those votes count.

Thanks so much for that tip! That speeds things up quite nicely.

I'm a last minute voter (and eBay bidder) by nature, but I'll try and do a few hundred over the next few days whenever I need a break from work...like now. :)

  12. And seriously, what is going on with Rumple/Belle and Emma/Hook? Belle didn't seem to think it weird that the pirate oath involved groping her. And at this point, I don't want Emma to hook up with Hook considering he's not Hook. It would just be a Graham/Regina redux and just...blech.

Well, in the Pirate Oath, they swore to never talk about what happened again, so I'm hoping, hoping, hoping that Rumple's done with impersonating Hook.

  13. That's what I'm assuming too. It also sounds like there won't be an episode on Easter Sunday so it would logically work out with two episodes on one night. They did that with the 3B finale as well -- it recorded on my DVR as one two-hour episode but was actually two separate episodes.

Oh good, I can watch Sound of Music on Easter like I always do because I'm a dork (assuming SoM will be on, as usual).

  14. Ok, first thoughts. I liked Mal's first fairyback look. She's Patsy Stone at 9am. I didn't hate the Rumple as Hook scene. In fact, when Belle commanded the Dark One to face her, and KillianRump turned his head to her, I actually gasped.

That said, Regina undercover doesn't make any sense. They're going to do this with or without her, so what is the point?

    ETA: Rumple's a stalkery dick.

  15. Ah, you were in Raleigh. A few of my friends are there, and another friend is going tomorrow mainly to see Joel Hodgson.

Oh cool! It was a lot of fun, and Joel did not disappoint. Also, I don't think I've seen so many Doctors or Tardis costumes in my life!

  16. I just got back from Wizard World ComicCon where I spent waaaay too much money, but had a blast. It's a much smaller show than something like DragonCon, but that was fine, because it was less crowded. Still, David Tennant, Shatner, Elvira, Sean Astin, James Marsters and Ian Somerhalder were there. For me, the highlight was the Q&A with Joel Hodgson from Mystery Science Theater 3000. He really is kind of an idol of mine, and he was just so funny and engaging.

Like I said, I spent way too much money. Unfortunately there wasn't much Once merch, and what there was, I didn't really want (some 3B posters and a t-shirt with Regina on it). Instead I bought a metalwork dragon, a Red Dwarf tee, a Princess Leia tee, and some lobby posters. A great way to spend a Saturday.

  17. That was 4.19, so not actually that long ago.

Huh, I guess not. It just leaves this incomplete picture in my head. "Ooh, what's the Dark One going to do next? Oh just making sad faces outside the pawn shop." That's the pitfall of looking at spoilery pictures. I know there are studio scenes, and we don't know what all is going on, so maybe he's in my imagined CGI/green screen alternate reality by now.

  18. Re the episode title: Eh. I fully expected the finale to be about the search for the author, so I don't really understand the surprise here.

Is this the episode they shot yesterday with Henry running through the empty streets? If everyone went to alternate universes and Henry's not among them, it can't be all that bad.

  19. Last night I really started getting into the voting and was happy to see all the celebratory tweets when CS won. I've forgotten how fun it can be to go all fangirl now and then. :)

What I also liked about it is despite the fact that I live in ACC country, I have no interest in college basketball. It was cool to participate in brackets for a team that I actually care about.

ETA: And, yes, a lot of the "please vote" gifs and Vines were very creative.
