  1. Aw, so glad it turned out well for you, the cardinals and the tree! I have two pairs of cardinals that hang out in my yard and they are the most beautiful birds.
  2. Good advice! I had to have some arborvitae removed two years ago because an ice storm had twisted some and uprooted others. Just the sound of the chainsaw made me sad. I'll know better this time.
  3. Thanks, @walnutqueen. It looked so pretty this spring too. Thanks @CarpeDiem54. Unfortunately it has to sit there like that until the tree company can get out here. So good to see you back here, @Bronx Babe. I've been thinking about you and wondering how you're doing. Me too, @Lady J. I've lost a few of them over the years and it's always sad.
  4. We've had a lot of rain this week in the Philly area, so the ground is really saturated. We had a bad storm last night with heavy rain and strong winds. I pulled the shades up in the bedroom this morning and saw that one of my trees fell over during the night! It's completely uprooted and will have to be removed. The good news - it fell away from the house and just missed crushing my mailbox. The bad news - it's a beautiful redbud tree and is one of my favorites. Sigh! I called the tree company that I use but, being that this is Saturday, no one is in the office. I'll try to connect with them first thing Monday morning to see how soon I can get them out here to remove it. Darn!
  5. That's good news that the FCC is taking this kind of action. It would be nice if it deterred other robocallers, but I'm not hopeful about that. There's too much money to be made in fraud, unfortunately.
  6. I got it from the Q's website. On the toolbar near the top of their webpage, you'll see Shop QVC TV. Click on it to get the drop-down menu and then click on Items Recently on Air. It brings up a page and, on the left, you'll see a list of shows that were on today. Since you mentioned that Ant did the Diamonique show, I figured she probably did the show after it too so I clicked on that show (White Sale) and it brought up all the products sold during that show. I clicked on the shower curtain, and I was able to watch the video of Ant presenting that item. I paused it and took a screen shot. Sorry for the long explanation! It really is easier than it sounds!
  7. That the great thing about our pets - they love us unconditionally!
  8. Kitty is happy it's National Giraffe Day!
  9. Are you using a desktop or laptop, or a tablet? If I'm on my desktop, I open the picture, then click "Paint" and you can either crop the photo or reduce it in size. If I'm on my tablet (IPad), a trick I learned is to email the photo to yourself. When you hit send, it'll ask if you want to send the photo as small, medium or large file. Click small, email it to yourself, open the photo and save it.
  10. I would believe that - watching the fish glide around puts you in a calm, serene state of mind.
  11. Kitty would get bored with it in short order. I have a 29 gallon aquarium in a bedroom that we turned into a den/office. When my kitties first noticed it, they were fascinated. Mittens, however, soon lost interest. Coco will still hop up onto the desk that's next to the tank and watch the fish - she may occasionally paw at the glass as a fish saunters by - but that lasts about 5 minutes and then she's on to other things. They much prefer sitting in a downstairs window watching all the birds in the yard visiting our bird feeders. You should try an aquarium. They're so calming - sometimes I sit on the couch and just watch them swimming around. It's almost like meditation!
  12. @Cricket, just want to chime in with the others here who have said it sounds like you and Joe received good news. No other cancer detected and the liver tumor being operable sounds very hopeful. I'll continue sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.
  13. As much as I've loved my kitties and been heartbroken when they passed on, I never could imagine my life without a cat, so I've had several through the years. I adopted my first kitty when I got my first professional job in 1978. I had Boo Boo for 17 years; she died in 1995 of liver failure. Within two months, I adopted an 8 week old kitten. Lucky was a beautiful dilute calico and was my girl. She bonded with me immediately. Seven months later, my late husband and I decided she needed a companion, so we adopted a little black and white kitten and named her Annie. We figured that our kitty family was complete, but a few years later, a big tomboy tabby girl thought otherwise. I used to feed ferals, and a tabby started showing up. She clearly was not feral, but after asking around and no one knowing who she was or where she came from, I finally called a local rescue group to see if they would take her. They asked us to "get her off the street" for a couple of days while they tried to find a foster home. So we took her in - temporarily, we thought - fell in love and she never left. We named her Noel since it was near Christmas. Lucky died at 16 in 2012, Annie died at 18 in 2014, and Noel died at 16+ (we don't really know how old she was when we took her in - she was at least one) in 2015. Mr. Booney talked me into adopting our two current sweeties 6 weeks after Noel died, and it was a great decision. Mittens and Coco are such sweethearts and make us smile every day.
  14. I had a tabby named Boo Boo Kitty. I called her Boo Boo or just Boo. My current kitties are Mittens and Coco, but we call sometimes call Mittens "Mitty" or "Mitts" and Coco is "Cokes." However mostly we call them Sweetpea or Sweetie Pea. Mr. Booney also calls them Sweety Petunes (which he affectionately calls the grandkids too!)
  15. I so agree with this. I'm mildly claustrophobic and can't do an MRI without a tranquilizer. A few years ago I had to have an MRI of my torso because I had a kidney cyst. My doctor wanted to be sure it was a fluid cyst (it was) and not something more dangerous (it wasn't). She prescribed a low dosage of Valium and, although it took the edge off, it didn't do enough. The MRI tech told me to ask for Ativan or Xanax next time. I haven't had to have an MRI since but if I do, you can bet I'm going to be asking for Ativan or Xanax!
  16. I lurve this kitty!! Looks like a Maine C*** kitten.
  17. I actually have two landlines - one for the home and a second dedicated line for my business. The home line is unlisted and I do get some marketing calls on it, but not many. The business line is another story - robo calls and scam calls all day long. Like you, they're from all over the country. But lately, these callers have been spoofing local numbers and the caller ID will come up with a local number and someone's name. I have caller ID on both lines and never, ever answer the phone if I don't recognize the person or number on caller ID. Even if it's a potential client, I figure they'll leave a message. I'm on the Do Not Call registry for both lines and agree with what others have said - it's a joke. I also use the 800notes website to check to see if others have received calls from these numbers. Www.whocallsme.com is also good. I don't get many of these kinds of calls on my cell, thankfully.
  18. You and Joe are in my thoughts and prayers, @Cricket. Just take it one day at a time, one step at a time. It's such a great idea to stay away from negativity. One of my friends is in treatment for a particularly aggressive type of breast cancer. When she was diagnosed, she decided to immerse herself in positive thoughts, and bought a bunch of books on positive thinking. It's really helped her stay hopeful - and, most importantly, her treatment plan is working and things are looking very promising so far. So you never know how things are going to go. We're here for you!
  19. Aw, she's a sweetie! I'm partial to tabbies. I have two currently, and have had two other tabbies that passed on.
  20. @Bronx Babe, grief support can be a great help, even if you don't think you need it now. When my first husband died in 2012, it was sudden and unexpected. I was in a fog at first, and then all of the painful emotions - sadness, pain, fear, despair, and many others - hit me with a wallop and I was in a really dark place. I joined a grief support group and I also had individual sessions with the grief counselor who led the group. It really helped me - not only the support the counselor provided, but also being with other people who had been through what I had and who understood. I know losing a spouse is very different than losing a mother, but I think the grief support process can help anyone who has experienced loss. Even if you think you don't need it, it may be worth exploring.
  21. @Bronx Babe, I'm so very sorry for your loss. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
  22. Totally agree! In fact, I loved that whole Mama's Family cast. I think it started as a running skit on the Carol Burnett show and then eventually became a stand-alone show. It always made me laugh!
