  1. My UO is that I didn't think L/L had any chemistry in the Revival. I have always been a big L/L shipper, and thought they had great chemistry, especially in S1. I even thought they had chemistry in S6 and 7, despite hearing the rumors they didn't like each other. However, I couldn't see it in the Revival. LG had more chemistry with Digger and the park rangers. Of course, one of the park rangers is her real life partner, so I suppose that helps. It was almost as if LG was happy to act with someone else. OTH, I've rewatched Winter, and their relationship came off a little better to me with the second viewing. Maybe the relationship seems more realistic the more you watch it.
  2. I might have to backtrack from my post above. I have to admit, after reading a few posts giving some valid reasons why the characters might have made the choices they did, I'm not as disappointed. I'm going to watch it again, and maybe it will be more enjoyable the second time around, with lower expectations. I thought I didn't have expectations, but I did have some, mainly that Season 7 would be part of the canon. One thing that is special about the show to me is that I get to share it with my teenage daughter. I was pregnant with her when I watched the pilot, and then fifteen years later we watched the series together on Netflix. We also watched the Revival together, and she enjoyed it, although she didn't care as much for Spring and Summer. Having something you can share with your teenager is priceless, so I'll always appreciate the Palladinos for that.
  3. That makes sense, thanks for going to the trouble of explaining it. I have to admit, I was disappointed that they weren't already married, as it seemed they had gone backwards in growth from the end of Season 7. However, I hadn't thought of how her marriage to Christopher would have affected her. I agree. He wasn't screaming, that I remember, but more like speaking emphatically. He was the only person she listened too, and finally got her act together. I'd say he knew exactly how to speak to her and reach her. Logan certainly wasn't making any efforts, other than being a jealous ass.
  4. I agree. I didn't see season 1, and some parts of the other seasons, as a Snowglobe. I saw the characters as flawed, but underneath still decent people overall. In order to have a good story, you need some tension between the two.

    S01.E04: Fall

I was really disappointed that we didn't get to see the reception with the whole town there. We saw it in season two with Max, although it was a bridal shower. I know there were probably logistical problems with getting all the stars together, but I think it could have worked.
  6. I wish I hadn't watched. The characters ended up in a good place at the end of Season 7. ASP threw all that out the window, and ten years later they were still stuck in the end of Season 6, maturity wise. I felt like the revival was Season 6 style, and I was hoping for Season 1, which was pretty unrealistic of me.
  7. Snowglobe Town is a really good way to describe it. However, I think the first season was more the Snowglobe Town, and had the best combination between that and the dark humor. Each progressive season lost that more and more, until we ended up with Season 6. Season 7 put some of the Snowglobe Town vibe back. I was hoping that AYITL would be more like Season 1, but it seemed we mostly ended up with Season 6 on steroids.
  8. David Sutcliffe and Sebastian Bach did not age at all. It was funny to think of Zach complaining about how Gil was too old for the band, and now Zach looks much older. I think this bugged me the most. I know Amy didn't see it, but I saw it. In my mind, those things were cannon.
  9. This was my least favorite of all the eps. I liked the musical part, but it went on too long. I would have rather had more Lane/Mrs. Kim scenes in that time slot. I wonder if Liz Torees had health issues, and that limited her time on the show. I don't know that for sure, but wondered if it was the case. Fat shaming jokes are why I wish Amy would keep Dan away from her show.
  10. That sums it up for me, too dark and joyless. I was also bugged by the dismissing of S7 plot points. When Emily asked Lorelai for a memory of Richard, that amazing speech he made in the S7 finale, at Rory's going away party, immediately sprang to my mind. It made the fight between Lorelai and Emily seem unrealistic, as I couldn't believe Lorelai wouldn't remember that. I was disappointed that Rory's job on the Obama campaign trail wasn't mentioned, especially since Alexis Bledel did a cute Snapchat with Michelle Obama. I'm a big L/L shipper, but there was no chemistry between them. I felt they had chemistry in the original series, but they weren't able to get it back. Also, they learned to communicate in S7, and now that has all seemed to disappear. I know Amy refused to watch S7, but it's jarring to watch the revival as if we were picking up at the end of S6.
  11. Too much time spent on the musical, and not enough on Lane and Mrs. Kim. I was thrilled to see Mr. Kim though! As much as I love Sutton Foster, this was GG, not Bunheads. It seems all the character growth from the Season 7 finale was scrapped, except for Emily. I did like Emily's storyline, although I'm disappointed there are no more Friday night dinners. However, I suppose that's reality, life changes. I couldn't get past Lorelai not being able to come up with a good memory of Richard, when he gave her that wonderful speech in the original finale. However, I read ASP never watched S7, so there were some continuity issues. Like, what happened to Zack's promising musical career? Overall, I didn't like it, although I enjoyed some of it. However, I know ASP was constricted by availability of actors. I would have loved to have seen the actual wedding with the town, and wished they would have worked that in, with as many actors as they could manage.
  12. I watched an interview with ASP at the ATX Festival last summer. She said that Dean was written to be the perfect boyfriend. Also, she always wanted Rory to lose her virginity to Dean. Ugh on that one, lol.
  13. In Dear Richard and Emily, when Lorelai asked Emily what she did in the evenings when Richard was gone, Lorelai suggested watching TV. Emily stated she didn't watch much television and didn't need a dvd player. If Emily had a VCR and was watching and recording ballroom dancing, you'd think she would have mentioned it at this point. I suppose you could argue that a VCR is different than a DVD player, so that's why Emily didn't mention it when Lorelai suggested dvd's. But the scene in S4 gave the impression that Emily was a stranger to pre-recorded television.
  14. I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Regarding Dean - he has good chemistry with Lorelai? Sorry, couldn't resist! Let me see, he built Rory a car. That seemed pretty special.
  15. And wasn't there an episode previously where Lorelai set Emily up with a VCR? She couldn't have been taping it since 1978, since she didn't own a VCR until over 20 years later.
  16. I think it was a combination of the two. I fell in love with Luke during the first season, and stubbornly held on throughout the rest of the run of the show. He did seem to get back to that guy during the last episodes of S7.
  17. The horoscope weakens it also. My theory is that he had given up on Lorelai, and put his feelings to the back of his mind. Once he thought he had no chance with Lorelai in S3, he pursued Nicole, then tried to pursue a relationship with her again in S4. In LCSHF, he realized he still loved Lorelai, and had never really stopped loving her. He had forgotten about the horoscope, and remembered it again in WItS.
  18. I agree it was more on Lorelai's part. I also think that is why Christopher is such a hated character for some people, as he seems to get away with everything, while Luke is punished. Although, I suppose S7 eventually changed that. My guess it's because they never really developed Christopher as a character, and just used him as a plot device for one of Lorelai's relationships, before she eventually ended up with Luke. It would have been more interesting, imo, if they had developed Christopher's character more fully, and had him and Lorelai actually talk about his neglect of Rory for the first 16 years, instead of glossing it over with a joke. As it was, it made her seem co-dependent, imo. I've always been a big Luke fan, but I'm starting to realize that I would have liked Christopher if they had developed his character more.
  19. I kind of agree, but I think it was Christopher's motivation, and not Lorelai's. I believe it is what Rosenthal was trying to convey in S7, because of all the anvils. In the "Great Stink," at the end of the ep the three of them are in the car going home from FND. On the surface, it seems like a sweet scene as they banter about which music to play on the radio. As they finally agree and are smiling and enjoying themselves listening to the music together, like a happy nuclear family, suddenly the horrible stink invades the car and they all grab their noses. My theory is the "stink" was meant to be the dysfunction underneath the L/C relationship, which was based on trying to capture that lost family. Then in "Go Bulldogs," Lorelai and Chris have that conversation about Chris' guilt over missing Rory's growing up years. After Lorelai reassures him, and everything seems hunky dory again, they walk by the A capella group, singing "Living on a Prayer." That one was a pretty obvious hint, imo. Of course, in "French Twist," Rory isn't even there for the wedding. Also, I think that's why Lorelai's character letter for Luke really hit Christopher hard, because the relationship was based on them being a happy family again, and he was once more reminded that it was too late. I wonder if the marriage was part of how he tried to assauge his guilt, along with throwing his money around. From Lorelai's end, I think she just jumped from Luke to Christopher, because she was afraid to be by herself. I don't see that them being a family together again was as important to her, because Rory was grown. And can I say how much I hated that scene in "Go Bulldogs!" When Chris finally admits he screwed up and wasn't there for Rory, Lorelai gives some completely whacked out reply, that he can help Rory when she has a mid-life crisis. That's one reason why I think Christopher was such a hated character, as Lorelai never made him accountable for what he did. It would have made so much more sense if she had said, yes, but that was in the past, and you're trying now, instead of pretending it never happened.
  20. I agree. I believe it was mentioned by Lorelai to Rory that Chris had promised to visit and had let her down before. I think it was the Cotillion episode, where Rory wanted him to escort her. I checked the recaps of Presenting Lorelai Gilmore: Lorelai says she knows that Christopher would rather sit through Endless Lovethan be a part of this, but it would mean a lot to Rory to have him there. Also, since he's constantly not there for her and he lets her down often, this might be a way to make it up to her, because he certainly owes her. Rory asks whether Christopher said "definitely." He did, so Rory's happy that there's a 50/50 chance he'll show. Lorelai says that Christopher sounded pretty confident, so it might be a 60/40 chance he'll show. As far as I can tell, the show has always presented Christopher as neglectful of Rory during her first 16 years. I'm sure Lorelai wanted sole parenting, but the door was always open for him. I don't see him as horribly abusive in any way, and he did try to make up for it, so I give him credit for that. But I don't see how Lorelai can be blamed for his neglect.
  21. On the Gilmore Guys podcast with Helen Pai, she said she had a closet like Lane's, where she hid forbidden stuff. However, it probably wasn't as extensive as Lane's closet. I'm guessing things were hidden better, and Lane's closet was dramatized for the show. While it wasn't realistic, I thought it was kind of fun to see it. I think eating massive amounts of junk food, while maintaining a healthy, slim figure, was sort of a wish fulfillment. It's what most people would like to do, but never can manage it. Sort of like the best friends mother/daughter relationship. Another wish fulfillment that doesn't really happen, but fun to watch. But yeah, none of it was realistic.
  22. Thanks for the clips! Those were fun to watch. She is amazingly talented.
  23. I just started watching it. It's now online at Freeform, which was formerly ABC Family. On a side note, they couldn't come up with a better name than Freeform? Anyway, all of the episodes are unlocked and free to watch. You can also watch in on your phone, as Freeform has an app. However, you have to suffer through quite a bit of commercials. It took me until the second half to warm up to it too. I have six episodes left to watch, and will miss it when I'm done. It wasn't as good as Gilmore Girls, and the characters annoyed me at times, but I enjoyed it.
  24. According to the latest study I read, not really. Apparently, it's 60% genetics, 40% environment, with parents being less than 20% of environment. Although, I'm no expert on the subject! I suppose in the context of the show, that's how you can get a Liz and a Luke with the same parenting.
