What does this do to the number of placements the US will get next year, especially now that WE HAVE A WORLD CHAMPION PAIR TEAM. Holy crap. Alexa and Brandon went clean. WOW!!

Brandon is in total shock in the Kiss and Cry. It's cute.

Is this the first U.S. Pairs WC since Tai and Randy in '79?

Yes. We haven't even been on the podium since 2002.

I'm a combination of tremendously excited for and proud of Alexa and Brandon and so worried about poor Ashley...I hope they update us on her status soon.

She appeared nude. No one on playboy just showed a little shoulder! Who is she kidding?

This (the interview) was long time ago--at least 20 years, it's definitely possible I remembered incorrectly. I remember they showed a picture wherein she had (IIRC) a blanket that she was holding up to her breasts and she was looking over her shoulder to the camera. Maybe what she meant was it was before they started showing more than breasts (the series referred to that, when they started becoming more hardcore, to compete with Penthouse).

Barbi Benton was so pretty. I think she was the only woman that Hef respected and maybe actually loved.

This is all so tragic and sad.

She was utterly gorgeous, which is why she was able to shake off the Playboy stigma and have her own career. (Also I'm not sure how much she showed--I don't think she was a Playmate and I remember and interview where she said "back then, you could get away with showing some shoulder and not the whole business" (paraphrasing).)

  5. So looking up the ISU channel (ugh, there's still no video of the full feed of the SP, just a few individual programs), I was confused about the term "small medals" but a little research helped me figure it out. They're now handing out medals for the top three in the SP and the free skate? This is a new thing, yes?

That means Mariah is a Worlds medalist! And so are Alexa/Brandon and Ashley/Timothy!!!!

First, most of the round table ladies still held on to the long blond hair, puffed up boobs and lips aesthetic, long past their traumatizing Playboy experience. So sad that they still clung to that look after all this time.

I honestly think it's a really unattractive look (although Holly sort of pulls it off). Compared to how Barbi Benton looked, or some of those earlier Playmates (like the one who killed herself in the '70s)--their beauty was so much more natural. I mean, nobody has that candy floss hair past childhood.

I'd be happy if Miranda was gone forever. At least in the role of the boring person, the bitchy wife who cheats on her husband.

I'll be fast-forwarding through any scenes with Miranda and/or Che, because I honestly can't stand either Miranda or Cynthia Nixon*. If it happens that Che dumps Miranda and Miranda begs Steve to take her back and he refuses, I'll have to find out on the boards where I can then go back and savor Miranda's comeuppance.

*I haven't watched The Gilded Age either. I just cannot stand her now.

Of course, no one is more stuck in their old ways as Kreese, its honestly become rather sad. As awful as he is, he's also just making himself miserable, forever obsessing over old grudges and issues.

Kreese is utterly pathetic at this point. He's an old man who's one step above homelessness and all he can think about is avenging himself at the All-Valley? No wonder his life sucks so badly.

Of course when there's a fight (or an ambush), Tori is right there. She's Kreese, just younger and female. Can't get out of her own way and she's addicted to anger.

As stupid as the fight and training leading up to it was for Daniel and Johnny, I say Johnny won since it looked like he hit first and Daniel hit the ground a split second before Johnny. But NOBODY wins this one if you ask me, because all of the students suffer as a result. Not only is it taking time away from their All-Valley training, but these kids look at Daniel and Johnny as role models and they both can’t put aside their egos and put the students first. That’s why I say Miguel and someone from Miyagi-do (not Sam because her judgement isn’t good either) need to take over as senseis whenever Daniel and Johnny get irrational. That’s another thing Cobra Kai is doing better than either of them right now; they let Robby teach classes here and there.

And while all the foolishness with Eagle Fang and Miyagi-Do was going on, Cobra Kai is mostly focusing on getting stronger, aside from them ambushing Hawk and cutting off the Mohawk.

I feel bad for the Miyago-Fang kids. They looked like children whose parents are fighting. Both Danny and Johnny need to get their ish together and stop arguing in front of them.

How the f*** is ambushing Hawk that way NOT fighting--which Cobra Kai explicitly said they wouldn't do? They were throwing punches and hurting him. Robbie's lofty "I'm above all of this" can take a seat when he was part of that. He's no better than Kreese.

It isn't a good look, but considering that in season 2 Tory tried to kill and permanently scarred her (in a fight she physically started) and in season 3 she took part in a home invasion that trashed her house by physically injuring several kids , I don't entirely blame Sam to coming to work and mocking her. She invaded her space and nearly killed her, and her shitty home life is no excuse. There is being unpleasant like Mauve in Sex Education, who only assaulted someone that sexually harassed her & even helped one of her bullies that was being slut shamed, and there being a psycho.

Yeah--absolutely no sympathy whatsoever. Tory never seems to learn from her mistakes--at the drive in I heaved a sigh when yet AGAIN she shows up ready to fight.

I still can't stand Tori, but I cringed so hard for her when she saw Sam and Amanda. How humiliating for her to be caught out of her usually tough element, despite it being a perfectly honest job to pay the bills. She shouldn't be ashamed of it, but I get it.

That actually seemed like a really cute, fun job and it seemed as though she was doing it well. I don't agree with Sam trolling her (although frankly I can't blame her) but Tori had nothing to be ashamed of. The kids were having fun.

Tori really brings on a lot of her own problems with her tendency towards violent rages, but I did feel really bad for her when Sam was taking so much glee in seeing her embarrassed. Her life just seems horrible, it doesn't excuse for behavior but it does explain a lot about why she is the way she is, I hope that Amanda can actually give her some support, as it seems like she increasingly feels bad for her. I get why Sam hates her, but this week was not a good look for her.

Yeah, [redacted] Tori. She honestly deserves it. Although this was the first episode where I felt anything but loathing for her.

they seem to hate Sam with a passion. She's not my favorite or even one of them but I don't get the intense dislike for her character.

That's fandom. Women/girl characters are scrutinized to a ridiculous degree, and held to an extraordinary standard. See: Mad Men, where Don can abandon his family for three weeks and "that's just Don" but Betty is the worst parent ever. Well, at least she was THERE. Within many fandoms there is often one designated "approved" female character (Hermione, Princess Leia) and all the rest are nitpicked to death. This is why I stop listening as soon as the term "Mary Sue" enters the conversation. Once upon a time it had a useful meaning (an unrealistically perfect original character who is often a self-insert for the author)--now it is used almost entirely to denigrate the very existence of female characters.

Wow, I never knew that Hef's friends set up "Shadow Mansions" for Hef's cast-offs before now! >:(

It broke my heart hearing about the friend who was carried off, never to be seen again, and her telling his father she hadn't seen him.  :-(

Oh God, that was heart-breaking. Imagine being a teenager and being put in the position of having to lie to protect your father's involvement in the disappearance of your friend. I felt so awful for the poor dad, and for Paulina, of course.

Is this a new episode or did I miss something? What on earth?

New episode talking about how Hef's lackies would set up very appropriately named "shadow mansions" and have parties there much like the ones at Hef's mansion. Young women who were in the circle would be rated according to their beauty--if they were 9s/10s, they would be invited to the Playboy Mansion. If they were 7s/8s, the circle still wanted to exploit them so they'd be invited to the shadow mansions. Completely effed up, of course. Also went into more details about Jennifer Saginor's father's relationship with Hef.

The guy who plays Lou is Jeff Perry, and I knew he looked familiar...he played Meredith's dad on Grey's Anatomy.  The woman playing Maud is Anna Deavere Smith.  She's been in a lot of stuff and is also a pretty famous playwright.  I had never seen or heard of the guy playing Barry. He's Terry Kinney and is best known for the prison drama Oz.

Now, time for some Fun Facts.  I'm watching this and The Dropout at the same time, and the woman who plays Nora here (Kate Burton) plays the wife of the lead chemist in The Dropout.  Also, Terry Kinney and Jeff Perry from here are co-founders of the famous Steppenwolf Theatre Company (along with Gary Sinise), and Jeff was married to Laurie Metcalf, who is in The Dropout.

Kate Burton is also the daughter of Richard Burton and boy, can you see it in the face. She's awesome. Love Gary Senise.

Terry Kinney was best to known me as the father of the Julia Stiles character in the movie Save the Last Dance (I am an Old)--the absentee father/jazz musician.

Even worse was the "THAT'S MY BOY" proud back patting Brandon got from Jim when he slept with Sheryl (in the Walsh house! While they were home! Who does Brandon think he is? Brady Hobbes?) before Brenda was even dating Dylan.

Contrast that with his response to Brenda when she made an excellent point about [paraphrasing] "Why is it you don't worry about Brandon having sex but when I do it, my entire value system is on the line?"

Mr. Walsh: "Brenda, it's different for girls! It just is!"

I mean, his reaction is realistic for a dad, if repellant, but I do wish the show had tried to push back a little more, and not caved so quickly to the parents of the viewers. Brenda and Dylan finally having sex was handled very well, and realistically.

They briefly spoke about Dorothy Stratten. I didn't realize it turned out as it did, with her boyfriend(?) being a violent pimp. 😱

Stratten was married to Paul Snider--he targeted her when she was 17, living in Vancouver, Canada. He recognized her potential and convinced her to forge her mother's signature on a release for nude photos, sent them to Playboy where they recognized her potential and immediately booked her for a shoot. Snider talked her into marrying him and after that the couple were invited to the Mansion a lot. After Stratten came out as a Playmate, and then Playmate of the Year, she started getting bookings for movies, TV episodes--she was having the kind of crossover success that no other Playmate had ever had. As Stratten's star was rising, the PTB at Playboy realized what a sleazy loser Snider was and starting icing him out, no longer inviting him to the Mansion. Her friends at Playboy warned her about how dangerous Snider seemed and eventually she separated from him. Peter Bogdanovich, a frequent guest at the Mansion, fell in love with her and cast her in his next movie, They All Laughed, which was a HUGE deal--a Playmate had been cast in a movie by an Oscar-winning director. Dorothy was getting further and further away from Snider and eventually he convinced her to meet him in LA and they could discuss divorce. Whereupon he ambushed her, raped her, sodomized her and then shot her in the face. His Galatea was developing a mind of her own and was no longer content to be the money train and that just couldn't be.

It all happened so fast. 1977-1980, just three years from the time she met Snider to her murder.

She had incredible potential. And she was still just a kid. She wasn't even old enough to legally drink when that cockroach murdered her.

    It's unbelievably sad.

I'm saddened mostly that these accounts take light away from true victims of sexual abuse, and hope that in time those selling lies to defame Hef find peace within their own lives."

  20. I want to respond to some of these posts but I was so full of rage from watching the finale that I just have to dump my real-time notes:

Neff SHUT THE EVERLOVING F*** UP

I would slap the SHIT--I mean the everloving SHIT--out of a bitch who called me Becky and Karen for wanting to get my $57,000 back. And we damn well know had Neff not gotten paid back, she'd be singing a different tune. Bish, you were in thrall to those Benjies just like everybody else.  Her portrayal (which is different from Pressley's article, I loved Neff in that) is so over-the-top shitty, it's manipulative. F*** YOU NETFLIX NEFF.

I have seen the pictures of that first court outfit--the black tanktop was super low-cut and honestly looked really trashy. Lots of cleavage. And chokers had their day back in, say, 2000 but even back then they looked really cheap. Was there really an IG (or whatever form of social media) for Anna's outfits in court? Because what I've seen her wear looked really distasteful, unlike her pre-prison social media.

Go to effing TOWN on that shitty grifter, Todd! His shutting her down was wonderful. And I did not feel sorry for her for one second. I'm glad her dad ghosted her. She's a grifter.

But you ARE a lazy millennial looking for fame and fortune, Anna. Rachel wants to work. You don't have a job. You're just a grifter.

But you ARE a fraud, Anna. You're nothing but a fraud who robbed your friend.

Oh God, this whole "Todd showing up Rachel on the stand" bullshit is such bullshit. God, I hate defense attorneys. I get that they have a job to do but they're always so campily theatrical. With the interruptions and the nonsense. Okay, now I hate you. Rachel's claim was deemed not worthy by the jury--I don't care if Amex later wrote most of it off, she still suffered through an incredible amount of stress and almost certainly suffered a huge drop in her credit score (which may well have hindered her loan application for a car or a mortgage). Those kinds of impacts on real life matter. F*** Anna.

Oh STF UP Todd. YES, Rachel sold the story. WTH else could she do? She was going to lose her job? Anna the Grifter could certainly appreciate someone making capitalist lemonade out of lemons.

Oh and F*** OFF, Kacy, with your vague, dim positivities. You got off easy. All you suffered was a stomach ache. I'm happy Rachel set up Anna. Because f*** Anna. She's a grifter who owed Rachel $57K. The pearl clutching "Omagerrrrrrd you set up, Anna???" Good for you, Rachel. I'm glad you f***ed her over, like she did to you.

I'm just skipping past some of this because I honestly despise so many of these characters. This isn't fun. These are real people, who were legitimately hurt by Anna's shitty actions.

Vivien cheering Todd on at the bar--BOOOOLSHEEEEEEEET.

"There are plenty of good reasons why she has no one--" YUPPPPP.

Anna's stammering, overly dramatic monologue in the jail cell after the verdict--STUPID. Much like Todd's tearing away from his wife to go back to look in on the grifter. The forced gravitas for Anna is grating. She was a grifter. Not a frustrated girlboss with a vision. She wanted to live the good life. Tout fini.

That last confrontation between Todd and Vivian was completely contrived. Anna ended up serving only four years. No one forced her to commit crime and it's certainly not Vivian's fault--if anything, the media attention helped Anna. Vivian just did her job, well. And Todd's phone probably isn't ringing off the hook since Anna was mostly convicted. I'm just watching actors yell at each other under the Brooklyn Bridge for no good reason.

But I couldn't find anything about the actor. Doesn't seem to be on IMDB. Maybe I'm wrong here.
