That's what I thought! Allegedly. At least he did clap at the end? Same.

In the first round, I think Ruby's shortfall was in execution, where Kimberly's was in concept, which I think they would think is worse.

Well, you can make a pretty good guess at the religion of Yitzhak Bernstein or Khadijah Mohammad, but anyway, having diversity in mind is not the same thing as hiring people based on their religion or other demographic group. When you have several equally qualified candidates, it's totally fair to pick the one who is not a white Christian man.

Somehow, now I want to go to Hawaii where I never really did before?

That's just what it looked like! ::shudder::

I'm pretty sure she took the job because she wanted to work for HBO, raise her profile, etc. I'm sure she works to build a diverse crew on every project she does. This, exactly. It's not like we've seen any pushback from Jason about any of the staff/crew/whatever the right term is not being the right people for their jobs. It's all non-staff expense stuff -- film, stunts, etc.-- that doesn't fit into the actually low budget. And on the question of the driver, if we saw the whole role, it was literally putting the bags down and walking away. Not exactly the breakout role for whatever background actor got to wear the costume. Good for her for making them switch it out, because that would have been noticeable in the film.

Yeah, thanks to Effie, the people working on this film are much more diverse than the ones in, at least, previous seasons of Greenlight, and they are still making Jason's movie about rich people and dick jokes and, apparently, car crashes.

That's a great point, and actually makes me even more impressed with the younger contestants. I hadn't thought about it that way, but of course having decades of baking experience would make you more comfortable with a wider variety of things (for the kind of person who would be on this show, anyway -- my decades of baking are still mostly quickbreads!).

I think was Jason really needed was a "how to make a movie" class, where someone who knows things (ie, Effie) sat down with him for a week, and said, "OK, what's your vision? Here's how much that would cost. Here's how much money we have. Here are some options of places to cut. If you want film, we can't have stunts. If we have stunts, they are at this level. These are the time constraints, and the factors that come in." Etc. Rather than just starting to work with him as if he's a professional. Because he clearly is not. Totes.

I was hoping Dean would last long enough for us to find out where her accent is from and why her name is Dean, but alas -- not meant to be.

And Salma Hayek is Mexican btw.

I don't know about y'all, but I'm ready for a martini.

I thought it was interesting that the suet pudding could be basically anything -- pie, roll, baked, steamed, etc. I guess the suet (or faux-suet) is the thing! That was so funny! And helped by the editors who made sure we remembered that Mary likes booze and Paul doesn't. I'm with you (although my piping is fine), and was starting to wonder if it's genetic or something, because cream puffs and eclairs are the classic fancy dessert in my family. I made a croquembouche last Christmas which was fantastic, if I do say so myself! Ha!

Media: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Makes The News!

He's Filipino -- a former Spanish colony, so there are a lot of Spanish names. Assuming that's what you're referring to? -
Good thoughts to you, too, stacey.

Agreed! Although that was the kind of clue that is confusing, if you don't automatically get that Squeeze is the name of the band! It was an awful lot of nouns. I felt kind of the same way about the flapper one -- the clue tripped me up and I was trying too hard to come up with something.

Oh man, Drogo -- that's scary.

All right, I'm in! 2 No DL (egavasc, MarkHB), 7 to make another pot of tea 8 egavasc (SVNBob, Drogo, Spruce, CuriousParker, caprice, Lisin, Lady Calypso, Jesse) 1 to hear a dog not barking 1 to DL tjtrack, (OINKY BOINKY) 8 to take out low flyers

No, I think that's right. I mean, they definitely tape 5 games a day, and I feel like the general consensus on Ken Jennings is that stamina was his main edge on anyone else. I mean, of course he knows a ton of stuff, but so do a lot of contestants!

I'm so glad Matt didn't surpass Julia! I can't imagine winning that kind of money. He really can decide what he wants to do with his life now. (Not that it's enough to live on forever, but it's enough to pay for grad school and travel and whatever else for a while.) (And not that being a paralegal isn't a great thing to do with your life!) And I'm really glad I came here to see that Matt confessed (?) to having said "al," not "au." I forgot I was only paying half-attention part of the game, so I missed that part!

The Red-Headed League! ::claps hands in delight::

He's 23! He would have to be some kind of prodigy to be a lawyer.
