  1. Thanks for the info - I remembered the laundromat and casino, but I forgot about the video store. Speaking of jobs, did George get officially rehired as football coach?
  2. The whole Sheldon/life on other planets story line felt very 'forced'. It seemed like they were really stretching the episode to try to have some sort of story that would enable Sheldon to have some air time. Something else that occurred to me - are we to assume that MeeMaw is paying for the baby's expenses? I remember Mandy told MeeMaw that she did not have any health (or even auto) insurance so MeeMaw told her not to worry about it. I guess that means that she paid for the hospital bills for Mandy and the baby. Is she still paying for the baby's clothes, formula, doctor visits, etc? Does Georgie have a job anymore? Does he still work in the laundry/casino or anywhere?
  3. Of course Missy had to be punished for running away and stealing the truck. But it was disappointing to me that it didn't seem that neither George nor Mary took any time to try to find out what Missy was feeling and why she did what she did. All Mary said was NO tv, NO music, No magazines, etc. The poor kid is really ignored so much of the time especially now that there is a new baby in the mix. Sheldon gets a new computer and Missy was told they could not afford a new book for her. They forget to pick her up at school and she walks home. Anything that seems to upset Sheldon is met with a "What's wrong, Baby?" from his mother but then Missy is told she can't wear certain clothes or go to a dance. Sheldon can be terribly rude and nasty in his conversations with his parents, but he does not get told to shape up or stop it. It might be hard for the parents to have a serious talk with Missy as they might have to admit that they are a big part of the reason for her situation and feelings. When Sheldon was having emotional problems, they took him to the cut rate psychiatrist to try to help him. With Missy, they just take things away, threaten her and get mad. I really feel for Missy in this situation.
  4. I just checked and Reagan turned 15 last month. No wonder she looks older than 12!!!
  5. I am also pretty bored by the current story lines. I recently saw the repeat of the episode where Sheldon invited everyone to his house to hear the Nobel prize announcements and no one came. Then they played the Diana Ross song 'Someday We'll be Together Again" and showed all of the Big Bang characters as children. I loved that! It was those sweet episodes that hooked me on this show. Things have changed so much with pregnancy stories, possible infidelity, loss of jobs, gambling rooms and the kids growing up and becoming 'less cute'. I still watch but it is not the 'comedy' show I got hooked on years ago.
  6. I agree totally about both actresses. Imelda's rather puffy cheeks are what strikes me as such a departure from the Queen's face. Imelda is the proper age and build, but her face just isn't right. I actually did not understand for a while that the other lady was the Queen Mother. She did not look like her, her hair was totally wrong but most of all it was the body type. The actual Queen Mum was certainly not thin -she was 'pleasantly plump'. They at least could have added some padding to make her body type correct.
  7. I'm right there with you. Sheldon was just obnoxious - I know that is just how he is, but seeing him behave like that was not enjoyable to any degree. And totally unbelievable that Mary would gladly and easily let him stay at the dorm of a couple of days. I am also tired of the pregnancy story line. I do not like Georgie's attitude toward the whole thing. I know it is nice - I guess - that he pays so much attention to Mandy. But his attention has seemed to have evolved into a kind of 'glee and pride' that she is pregnant with his child. He seems way too proud of what he has done. Just icky under the circumstances of being unmarried, 12 years younger than her, totally broke, etc. I have read that in upcoming episodes Mandy's parents will be in the story line. Mandy said before that they had shunned her and wanted nothing to do with her or the baby. It will be interesting to see what part they play. Maybe they will somehow take her away and back home with them so the story of her pregnancy will not have to be featured so much. Less said about MeeMaw and Coach and the illegal gambling room the better. Too much is dumb and unbelievable about that entire story line.
  8. OK, thanks for that. I remember him being in the laundromat, but I didn't make the connection that was his full time job now.
  9. Speaking of Georgie, does he have a job these days? I know we saw George Sr. working in the sporting goods store. Did he take over the job from Georgie? I can't remember if Georgie got fired from Dale's store or quit or if he still has a job there.
  10. One time when George and Connie were having a fight, George said to Connie that Mary was the only one of her children that still talked to her. That is the only time that I recall there was ever a mention of any of Mary's siblings.
  11. It is not just that he has to be the smartest person, he has to make sure that everyone in the room totally KNOWS that he is the smartest person. He does that by quoting facts that he feels shows his intelligence or at time just states how brilliant he is. In the speech he made at his graduation from high school - for the first part of the speech it was kind and considerate especially about how much he learned from Missy. But then he said he wished Missy well as she entered Junior High, but he really did not know how it would be as he was so smart he skipped Junior High. Nothing like putting a bad spin on what up until then was a nice appropriate speech.
  12. I totally agree that I would call last night's show 'bleak'. When it ended, I just sort of went yuuuck at the whole thing! I also wish they would drop the pregnancy story line. If it continues, what is going to happen when a poor teenager and his unwed girl friend have a baby? Is the story line going to be funny or light at all if they have to all move in with the Coopers? Do we enjoy watching everyone struggling to pay bills, make ends meet and care for an infant? Things are not going to get better as far as the community shunning them when the baby is born. Even Sheldon talking back to the pastor was messed up because he had to add that pastor was mispronouncing a name. Sheldon also really does not seem to understand the proper amount of information and social interaction when he was talking to Mandy. He is so self centered all he can think about is what he feels like saying with no thought to how his words will affect the people he is talking to. A little levity and light would go a long way to improving this show at this point in the story line. I can't help but think back to when Sheldon had some 'cute and sweet' moments when he was younger. Those scenes made the show. I want at least a semi-comedy back and not a dramedy.
  13. Did I hear George say in the preview something about having no job? The parents of the football team are unhappy with his coaching now with the Georgie problem added in - do you think George get officially fired? I guess he still has the part time job with Dale.....? It will be a real downer if the finale is that neither George or Mary have jobs. What a depressing cliffhanger. We need the Missy and Billy Show to cheer us up. Either reclassify Young Sheldon as a drama or get some real humor back.
  14. I really disliked just about everything concerning Sheldon in this episode. He didn't go to the college president to ask her to "help" his family in a difficult time. He asked her to "fix" things in the family because their fighting and problems were causing Sheldon to be unable to concentrate on his school work. The whole Georgie situation to him was all about making the family fighting and disagreeing and that upset Sheldon regardless of what was causing the fights. Georgie and Missy (and somewhat MeeMaw) were the only characters trying to be nice and understanding. I am tired of Mandy basically blaming Georgie TOTALLY for the pregnancy. Mary is maybe finally understanding how judgmental her church 'friends' are. She also realizes that she would be one of the members to blame a family if this had happened to someone else. George is mad at everyone. Pastor Rob has ulterior motives. Pastor Jeff turned on the Coopers pretty quickly. Missy was outstanding. Bravo to Missy. This show might need to be reclassified from a comedy to a drama if this story line continues. I don't recall a laugh at all in this episode.
  15. This is also where I am at with this program. It is interesting certainly, but it is not the same show as it was the first few years. I guess everything can change and I am sure there are some that like this better as it has gotten more serious. I will continue to watch it, but it does not have the same appeal as it did when I tuned in for a happier, lighter comedy show. In addition to the Georgie story line, Sheldon seems to have gotten a lot more annoying and self centered in recent times. He is almost unbearable with his total interest in only himself. He seems to truly have developed into someone who has no concern for anyone or anything else except himself. His situation and problems are all that matter to him and it is not enjoyable or pleasant to watch. I prefer scenes where Sheldon is not present.
  16. This is the first thing I thought of also. We are not talking about two teenagers. At 29, she should be quite familiar with birth control. The episode where Georgie was talking to his father about marriage is the one in which Older Sheldon narrated that Georgie first got married at 19. So it seems that this current situation with 17 year old Georgie does not end up in a marriage. I don't know exactly how I feel about this story line. The show has really made a turn from a lighter, regular comedy to something heavier. It is realistic and serious, but it is not what I necessarily want to view every Thursday. The kids have matured and gotten older, so I guess thing must change. But this seems a bit much.....
  17. Because the cabinets were so high - so was the microwave. I couldn't believe it when I saw that it would take a big stretch to open the microwave much less be able to actually put something in it. The one guy said even a short person could reach the lowest cabinet handle. What a stupid thing to say - even if they could reach the handle, there is no way to be able to actually use the cabinet and get things out of it. Plus that means there are several shelves that are so high they are totally unreachable. Unfortunately, they were able to sell it and make a good profit. That means that they probably feel everything they did was fine as it did sell. Although they did say the first price offered was too high and the home appraised for less. They did not seem to appreciate Tarek's advice much.
  18. Also I believe in talking about Sheldon taking the trip, Missy said something like "Sheldon get everything he wants". Mary always answers that No Sheldon does not get everything. But he DOES. The fact that Mary almost always gives in to Sheldon's wants and wishes really does influence his personality for the entirety of his life that we have seen. Sheldon just does not seem to ever take into consideration the fact that there might be some reason for him to NOT get exactly what he wants. In Sheldon's mind, if he wants it - he should absolutely get it no matter what.
  19. Think of the marriage from George's point of view. When he first met Mary, she was a wild child according to MeeMaw. She smoke, drank, snuck out of the house, etc. That is the person George knew and married. They had Georgie obviously within the first year of the marriage. The twins didn't come along until 5-ish years later. So if we assume Mary was the same fun loving looser person up until Missy was born, George and Mary had about 6 years together being of much the same personalities and values. After the twins birth, Mary chose her straight and narrow path to thank God for letting Missy live. That is fine, nothing wrong with that at all as far as Mary. But for George, he now is married to and living with someone who is totally different from the woman he knew. I don't think there is any doubt that if Mary was the person she is now when she was in her teens, George and her would not have gotten together. So we now have a husband and wife who are on very different paths and it is hard to see them getting any closer over time.
  20. Although it is (in my opinion) over the top stick in the mud behavior when she forbids her family from scratching off the ticket - at least that is something she feels she has the right to do. However, I know some very religious people who always are buying lottery tickets plus I do think Pastor Jeff would have welcomed a $500 donation to the church with no problems. But telling the gas station attendant he couldn't scrape off the ticket and grabbing it from him was too much. I think her extremely narrow view of right and wrong makes her way too controlling as she tries to influence everyone around her with no room for diverging opinions. It seems to turn most of her family off as they just try to put up with her.
  21. This is really jumping out at me as I catch the repeats on TBS. Though to be honest, it also has a lot to do with the presence or absence of Wally Shawn! I do think you are right about feeling the absence of Dr. Sturgis! He added so much to the show. Also when you think about it, there are others who added a lot who are not on the show enough. Dr. Linkletter was funny in every appearance. Brenda and Billy Sparks add to the humor. Paige could be fun as she put Sheldon down in many ways. The high school principal and librarian were so entertaining. Missy and Georgie never fail in their roles to be funny and believable. Someone else mentioned that the show should be "Young Missy" - I would love to see that! MeeMaw can go either way - fun or annoying. It depends. Her boyfriend Dale is a terrible substitute for Dr. Sturgis as Dale is pretty much a dud. Mary is of course essential to the show, but she is so buttoned down that it is hard to take as a viewer. She says she can be fun, but she does not seem able to let loose. I can't imagine how she would really be as a Mom. Poor George looks like he is in for a tough time regarding his job so it might not be a lot of fun watching him. As far as Sheldon, I think it always happens that actors and roles somehow are not as appealing as the character get older. Sheldon can be annoying, selfish and rude. But in early years, there was also an endearing innocent quality to him and his role. Now he is quite obnoxious most of the time to me. The innocence is gone and he is old enough to know better but has gotten way too used to being totally able to control his just about everyone and get his way. The other kids are very aware that Sheldon is the center of their Mom's life and it shows.
  22. Missy cutting her legs, Sheldon barfing up Skittles, George possibly getting fired, etc. I want more laughter and fun from my comedy shows. There were a few chuckles this week, but overall it seems to have taken a pretty dark turn from what it was in the beginning of the series.
  23. I totally agree. How can they give so much screen time to him when they have Missy sitting slumped on the couch saying nothing and the other regulars having only a few lines. In addition, Jason Alexander's character is just disgusting. I cannot believe they waste time on him. There has never been an episode that featured Jason that I enjoyed.
  24. I did not enjoy this episode either. The story line of Meemaw and the mini casino is just dumb, It puts her in such a bad light in so many ways. I thought Sheldon's conversation with the University President was so incredibly self centered and obnoxious even for Sheldon. To ask her to change the schedule of classes just so he would not have so much extra time was ridiculous and Sheldon knew that. To indicate that he wanted to take a nap on her couch was also way over the top. But he is only concerned about himself - and at age 12 even Sheldon has to know how he comes off to others. But as shown in his conversation with Dr. Sturgis, he does not care how he is viewed and sees no benefit to others liking him. Where did the conversation with Dr. Sturgis take place? At first I thought it was at the University, but I don't remember Dr. Sturgis returning to being a professor there. Did he return to the college to resume his teaching career and I missed it?
  25. I hope she does. I found Dale's attitude and actions pretty unpleasant in this episode. Of Meemaw's boyfriends, I like Dale the least. Ira the furniture store owner and Dr. Sturgis treated Meemaw so much better than Dale. My thought throughout the story was 'what does she see in him"?
