  1. Alissa is basically the personification of "I'm NOT touching you!" while you have your finger one inch away from your sibling's eyeball.

And I'm fucking mystified by how much these people seem to love alcohol, like top to bottom, charter to charter. If it isn't the guests, it's the crew. It's really pretty gross. Frankly I think the guests got the beach picnic they deserved: it looked fine before anything really got started, but was disgusting by the time the event was in full swing, and everyone involved hated everything about it.

When he apologized the next morning, I thought that production made him do it. They chose to allow the behavior to happen, and included it in the edited episode, then carefully had him apologize on camera. They are trying to cause drama while covering their liability asses.

Clearly yes, couldn't agree more, that was a production-spurred apology (and only after Nadal approached him about it in the morning because the dude tried to manhandle the woman he ended up plowing over his roomie's bunk...WAS THERE NOPLACE ELSE ON A FIVE HUNDREED FOOT LONG BOAT?!?). My objection, if I were a producer, is that (a) they will continue to drink an extremely disgusting amount of alcohol, (b), this person has made statements that he has several addiction issues, not only to alcohol but to sex, and (c) has a female staff member, not to mention multiple attractive female subordinates. That, my friend, is a very dangerous mix. Especially now that you have a precedent for workplace harassment caught on camera, with the guy clearly ignoring both body language and actual verbalized objections.

  3. I came back because I feel negligent in not addressing the absolutely insane sequence in which that english bosun and his GENEROUSLY described as inappropriate touching. It's unfathomable that he's not ashamed enough to quit after the charter, but also that Bravo would take on the liability he clearly presents when in the presence of alcohol. That scene was absolutely disgusting, just like that douchebag.

  4. Alissa's problem as a manager is the condescension. That nutjob layabout can't articulate it, but that's what's upsetting her so much, particularly late in the episode, when she's constantly being called "boo" or "babe" in a really, really shitty tone when she's being corrected. It's infuriating, I wouldn't do it to my 14 year old, much less an adult. Not that the nutjob doesn't bring it on herself with the lack of work and her own attitude, of course, my point is no one is right.

But the blond is less right.

Is anyone watching the BB version of this show? I like Coach Mosley and the kids much better than the FB programs.

Watched it, loved it. So much better than the initial iterations of this program (the California football school notwithstanding). I like Mosley, too, he seems to have a grip on what he's up to and what role he plays for the kids. He's never once told a kid "you'll be playing in the NBA if you play for me," he is more focused on getting them to listen and succeed and grow.

  8. We were watching this and both my wife and I reacted MOST strongly to that lady's revelation that she was taking out of her 401K to fund this inmate business. Not that she's dating an inmate. We were a little put off with her roping her poor daughter, in her senior year, into this relocation fiasco. When she said "So I'm taking money out of my 401K" we actually had to pause the TV and discuss what a terrible decision that is, on every level. Fuckin' show.

I guess? Tyrion seemed to ride his kin AND queenslaying into a cushy civil servant role. Well technically he didn't kill Dany but he really really encouraged it. I get the feeling the Martells kill each other on the regular too but that's Dorne.

THis is true but it's also one of the neatest things about stuff like that in Martin's writing. Like the curse of Harrenhal, is that why Harwin and Lyonel Strong are burned alive there? Are kinslayers really accursed (he does have to basically become a fugitive after he kills Tywin) or is that sort of read onto it in retrospect. Like the man said, prophecies (and curses) are like half trained mules. THe minute you trust it, you get kicked in the face by it.

My only point is that real or not, it's a HUGE taboo in Westeros. Probably enough to have kept Rhaenys from burning the whole green team.

  10. First of all, Storm's End looks to me like a somehow shittier version of Pike.

And I'm not sure how people would NOT think (which is essentially "know" as far as small folk go) that not only did Aemond and Vaghar commit violence under the banner of peace, which is a major no-no, but Aemond is a kinslayer. The world of the show has always held that there are none more accursed than a kinslayer, so I'd expect a major league issue for Aemond. And as far as how they'd know he did it, the evidence is pretty clear. First, both he and Jace were seen simultaneously at Storm's End. Second, both had words and clearly Aemond was going to assault Jace. Third, you're going to find pieces of a dragon. Even if you want to assume no one on the ground saw these two dragons going at each other, how many wild (unaccounted for) dragons are there that are large enough to chomp an adolescent dragon in two?

Kinda underwhelmed by this episode, not going to lie. I thought it dragged in a couple of places (maybe one or two less Rhaenyra graphically miscarrying, and the Arrax / Vaghar tension was one scene too long). I like what it accomplished, I just wish it had been a little tighter in spots.

    Thank you!

So rules are basically same as in most cultures with weapons of the kind (sans dragons) irl.

Any time...that guest rite thing is like one of the oldest and most sacred laws / traditions in Westeros, it's the only way to end conflict short of total destruction of your opponent. Your enemy has to be able to trust that if you're invited to a parlay, you're not lying in wait to ambush them. It's why Cat Stark asked for some snacks as soon as she and Rob walked into Frey's stronghold.

Didnt Joffrey have his knife on him? He pulled it out to stab Ser Cole when he was down on the grown. Ser Cole was on duty so he had his sword.

AH yes, that's right...except Cole was well into the process of beating the shit out of him with his armored hands by the time Joff pulled it. Eh, either way, seems like enough Velarions would have witnessed it and called bullshit on the story that Joffrey pulled a knife, unprovoked, on a kingsgaurd, at the royal wedding feast, during dancing, and threatened something so ominous that Cole was left with no choice but to punch his literal head in. I also want to know where the other Kingsgarud were during that beating, like why aren't they pulling him off. I know I'm obsessed with this point, I'm sorry!

There was a scene, very brief, that focused on one of the tongueless hit squad, the camera lingered and stayed on a pin or a broach for just a second.  It looked like a bumblebee.  Does anyone remember seeing this?  Was it a bumblee?  What is it's significance, if any?

Same symbol on the knob of the cane of Lyras when he went to the black cells.

Irl in the middle ages even the murder wasn't as serious a crime as it is now but could be settled by giving money to the offer's family. And the killing wasn't considered a murder if it was done a fair fight (f.ex. both had a sword in hand) and it wasn't done in secret.

On the other hand, the killing could be deemed more serious than usual when it was done in the feast and in the king's presence.

Can somebody please explain the laws and customs of the this fantasy world.

Couple of things at play here. At the most basic level: guest rites. When you're invited to a meal at someone's house, you are granted guest rites, which allows for things like beefs to be squashed safely and civilly. It's an extremely serious transgression to violate it as either the host or the guest (Walder Frey is the most egregious example in the show). That's the very, very basic underlying sin. THen you add things like the Kingsgaurd issue: they're supposed to be the best knights in the land and their charge is the highest there can be. Bodily protection of the royals. Beating someone to death at a royal party would have had to come with a serious threat to the royal person, which isn't the case here, and can't plausibly be the case either, no one would believe "The Knight of Kisses" would really have plotted to murder the king. Or the fact that he's supposed to gaurd the king, and instead, punched the future king in the face in a violent outburst. Again he should have been arrested and disposed before he left that room, not been able to be found having a think out in the godswood. I just hate plot armor this obvious.

It's unfathomable, the guy in the KINGSgaurd punched the KING consort in the face! Where is Corlys or Rhaenys saying WTF Viserys, how do we trust this guy? Also how does ALICENT trust him? She didn't exactly sweat him for the details to get a confession out of him, and he forsook his oath. She shouldn't trust him either. Plus, him still walking around a decade later calling her the C word is not a good look.

  16. Several have already noted: THERE IS NO CHANCE COLE SHOULD BE ANYWHERE BUT THE WALL WITHOUT A DICK OR DEAD. Without an explanation of how, he's not only still in the Kingsgaurd, but this volatile and violent thug is the personal bodygaurd to the Queen??? This maniac who beat a member of a royal retinue (he was like the fourth person in line when they intro'd the Velarions in the feast last week) to death...at a royal feast where he'd been granted guestrites...is also somehow involved in any way with the heirs to the throne and training them? This character now sucks. Get over that shit, bro, it was ten years ago. His end cannot be grisly enough for me.

Also, what's the point of cutting the tongues out of the catspaws? Maybe he figures they're not lettered, so they can't write anything down?

Indeed! I imagined that the "dragon dance" was supposed to be an expected part of the overall ceremonial aspect of the banquet, but then everyone started dancing and they hadn't even eaten yet! I've been to a lot of weddings (here in the U.S. in the 20th and 21st centuries), and in all cases the dancing comes after the dinner (and drinking). How else to explain the appeal of The Chicken Dance?

As a side note, the group dancing did seem kind of lame even by medieval standards. I think these kinds of dances are a little livelier, particularly at a celebration.

THanks, now I'm imagining the "MC" for the band they used trying to get these lame-o's up on the dance floor and hype the whole thing. I love thinking about the small folk in the orbit of the nobility and their lives every day!I Just give me a show about them. "Good morrow Danielys! You headed over to the shame walk today? I have been picking up horse apples all day, I'm going to absolutely pelt whatever noble is out there, for real!"

"Wait, did you say you have been picking up horse apples all day? What's wrong with you? And yes, I'll be there, duh."

Yeah the gods woods are really pityfull. I noticed that from the beginning. It's kinda weird to me that it's there at all, since the Targs aren't worshipping the old gods, as far as I know, but if it is there and used by the royal family that frquently, it should be a lot bigger.

OOoof, what a great point. I would have to check into the book to see what sort of marriages pre-dated Viserys, but I definitely know Aegon I was not married to any Westerosi...so what is the godswood doing behind the castle walls in the first place? Aegon and Maegor built the entirety of the Red Keep, why would they put a heartwood tree in there if neither of them believed in the old gods at all? I know there are Targaryens who were indeed people of faith, but it was always to the Seven, not the old gods. DAMN IT!!! This is worse than the crabfeeder's sons of the harpy anachronistic mask!

I guess they wanted the visual with him in front of the heart tree, but here the rule of cool was not worth what they sacrificed for it, which is the internal concistency of the world.

Not for nothing but they are using that heartwood tree set so much the face is rolling its eyes. It's such a tiny little yard it's in, and yet when Alicent goes out to it on her own, whoops, surprise, Limpalong Strong is somehow there unnoticed. I guess that tiny spot apparently just off the Red Keep is somehow a public park.

The Kingsguard is run like the USMC at Gitmo... Corps, God, Country... they bailed out a comrade

Seemed to me they left a comrade out to dry by not stopping him before he committed murder. Bailing him out in my book is stopping him and having the Lord Commander talk to him, get an explanation, then try to sell the king on sending him to the Wall and not to the King's Justice post haste!

I'm fascinated by how these little factions function, like what does the City Watch think of the Kingsguard, or how do the Maesters view the Faith...

I'm not sure how Criston can be walking around. No one arrested him for killing someone at the Royal Wedding?

Lord Coryls probably isn't that upset that his son's lover is dead. But he still caused a panic in front of all the Lords and Ladies of the realm.

This is the question I just can't find a way around. WHAT ON EARTH would have allowed him to simply get up and leave? What he did is a very, very serious crime even in Westeros. You can't kill a member of a noble retinue who's been granted guest rights by the crown itself at a royal event, period. Add to that his membership in the Kingsguard, and the brutality with which this beating was administered, and now he is very, very clearly a security problem: you can't be that unstable AND charged with the protection of royal blood. Where were the other members of the guard to intervene, too? What could have possibly been the explanation? THat this nobody from some salt soaked rock somewhere made a veiled threat to the princess? OK, fine, then arrest the guy and throw him in the balck cells, right? Beat him to death before dessert is served is NOT the way. There isn't a sensible explanation that he'd be allowed to go think about it in the godswood. He'd have been detained immediately and very likely beheaded like ten minutes later.

Matt and Milly unequivocally have oodles and oodles of chemistry. I said in another thread, I don't know why Joffrey zeroed in on Criston staring unhappily at Rhaenyra while she mostly ignored him, but DIDN'T notice that Daemon was basically drooling into his food and Rhaenyra was giving it right back to him. Daemon's stare was definitely more sexual, AND reciprocated.

My guess: it has to do with the completely inappropriate and animated lover's spat had out in the open on the boat. Simply no way they weren't noticed, and you know the words of house Smallfolk of King's Landing are "We Flap Our Gums." Where there's smoke and all.

Didn't Viserys choose Raynera as his heir long before he married Alicent?

And he's repeatedly said he's not changing his succession plan.

So why does Otto and now Alicent object?

Otto isn't just saying there will be opposition to a woman ascending to the Iron Throne.  It sounds like he will be one of the leaders of that opposition.

There has never been a queen in the history of Westeros, and there is no precedent for a woman to even lead a great house, it doesn't seem like the people are going to be easily swayed, and while he might be wrong, the chances of a civil war and absolute chaos breaking out in the current circumstance (particularly when a traditionally legitimate male ascendant is sitting in the hole, if Rhaenyra is in the on deck circle), which is good for literally no one. His feelings on the matter of queen / king are immaterial, he knows the realm won't just say "Hey cool!" and start selling a bunch of "I'm With Her" tee shirts.
