  1. I went online this morning, shortly before I posted it here, and copied and pasted.  It must have been changed shortly afterwards!  For whatever it's worth, I am glad that people like Daniel have snapshots of the before and after.  He is awesome at fact checking.

I just don't understand how we got here.  That thought alone makes this so difficult to endure.  The despair I feel over this kind of stuff - right in front of our eyes!! - makes me just feel so utterly helpless. And hopeless.

  2. After yesterday's daily political rally presser about federal efforts during this crisis, I did a very quick check on the web.

Don't be fooled.  The National Strategic Stockpile is exactly what is, exactly what desperate state Governor's are asking for help with, not "as a favor" or for being "nice" to those in power.  It is not, as was stated yesterday, for "them" but for "us" in an emergency.  It says so, right on the website!

  3. Another thing I've done is stop watching the news.  I'm not sticking my head in the sand....just being very particular about what news I watch.  Mostly local.  And Andrew Cuomo's, except he can get a little meandering.........

What I definitely don't watch is the dinner hour one by you-know-who.  I like my tv, alot, and I don't want to do something that would cause it smash into a million pieces.  I get that angry at just the sight of that idiot.  To be fair and balanced, I can't even watch my usual cable news shows in the evening.  Maybe next week........

Hey boes, thanx for asking. First, let me say that I know a few people in NYC who have recovered or are recovering. Only one was tested. But the others had unmistakable symptoms. Most of us will recover and I hope your cousin recovers well.

Yesterday, a full week after being laid off and losing my health insurance, I was able to feel calmer for a bit. But this morning I woke up with a bad stomach ache and all worried, stressed, etc. I am having trouble coping. As well as all of the emotional and psychological distress, I am having stomach aches and pains and heart pounding.

I'm also having a lot of trouble concentrating, like to read or watch something. Can't seem to accomplish much. Everything is overwhelming.

The governor of NJ said today that no one in the state will have their water cut off. I think other states will follow. We've been on lockdown for a couple weeks.

Normally I walk to the train in the morning, walk from the train to the office, go out and walk at lunch for about 45 mins and then do the two walks home. I've actually been very sick with a flu/cold since the second week of Feb. I got better and then two days later it came back full force again. (completely diff symptoms from covid) And I am still recovering. So anyway, I have not been walking or going out for last 2 weeks for several reasons. I went out Sunday morning for a walk. EVERYONE I SAW WAS MY ENEMY. It's not so good to feel that way. I don't want to go out again, but damn, I need to walk. It's been cold, damp and rainy here but when it's a little drier I hope to just do some yardwork in my little yard.

I am having the same concentration issues, too.  Honestly, I'm just trying not to burn the house down, I've become so forgetful!  Just kidding, sort of......

I'm not far from you in Maryland, and you're right about the weather.  I'm hoping for decent weather, too, so I can get out and weed, edge, whatever, to just be active. To just get out there and see the spring renewal....try to see something tangible that gives me hope and the feeling that life really does march on.  My next door neighbor called me this morning and I asked her if she wanted to go walking later today and in horror she replied with a resounding "NO".  Apparently, she was out walking last week (we are lucky in that we have a lot of walking trails where we live in Columbia, MD) and said too many people are on the trails and not practicing social distancing......

Of course, yesterday, we had a 70 degree, sunny day....did I got out and work in my yard?  No.  Tomorrow is another day.  Today was overcast again and cooler.

  5. I read this this morning and it has stuck with me all day.......I know I'm going to be thinking about this in the days and weeks ahead.

I just finished "Self Made" as well. It was okay- a very watered down version of her life but I love Octavia Spencer and Blair Underwood is as foxy as ever.

Totally agree with you - Self Made was sort of watered down, a fluff piece.  But Octavia Spencer is wonderful and made it worthwhile to watch....and YES!  Blair Underwood is still a tall drink of water, isn't he?

    I just started Unorthodox too!

I just finished watching the second episode.  This series is taking me a little longer, because I get so caught up in watching what's going on, I'm forgetting to read subtitles when they're speaking Yiddish.

I am fascinated by the young woman who plays Esty.....such an expressive face.  I am praying her character comes out the other side of this with what she set out for.

  7. @boes, thank you for your thoughtful post.  I am so sorry to hear about your cousin and sure hope it is as she says, a mild case.

I read your post earlier today and wanted to respond, in general, but really didn't know how.  Actually, I'm not sure that I do now, either!  I wake up and feel fairly normal, full of lists of things I want to accomplish and then as quickly as I feel that way, I start a rapid decline that dissipates as soon as the sun goes down  At that point, I'm just pure energy, brushing through the house, cleaning, planning, making more lists (who knew I was such a list person?), watching tv, until I realize I need to go to bed and that if I'm going to survive this, I need to have a routine and stick with it.  Last night, I didn't go to bed until 3 a.m.  Not good when you wake up at 5:00 a.m. - pretty hard to maintain positivity when you're sleep deprived.

Today, our governor announced a Stay at Home order beginning at 8 p.m. tonight.  I panicked, until Mr. Lovesmesome reminded me that that's what we're doing anyway....nothing has changed for us!  I don't know, I think it signaled to me that this thing is coming closer.....and it is, as cases doubled over the weekend, and fatalities tripled over the weekend.  Maryland is a small state, so relative to California or New York, it doesn't seem so bad, but again, we're a small state.  We have 1400 confirmed cases and 15 fatalities.

I finished Self Made on Netflix and started a new series Unorthodox.  I highly recommend both.

  8. @jpagan05, my husband and I watched the episode of Chef's Table yesterday with Jeong Kwan.  It was such a beautiful episode, from the views of the mountains and nature, to the temple, to her food and to her words themselves.  Sometimes, you hear a message and it is just what you need.  That's what happened to my husband and I yesterday when we watched it!

There are 6 seasons on the US Netflix (I'm here in the states). Jeong Kwan was season 3. I hope you can watch it!

Woo hoo!  I found all the other episodes!  I really don't know how I missed them.  I could swear that this past weekend, when I looked, there was only one season shown......and the episode I remembered most was the one with the chef in Georgia, who owned The Grey, the converted, segregated bus station.  And that was the only season I saw for at least the past year...now, miraculously, they're all there!  And the episode I remember was Season 6, so I have a lot to catch up on, 20+ hours of it!

    So excited......

  10. First everyone, please be safe.

I, too, have been a little more stressed than usual.  I'm an account rep, our business is considered "essential", however, when 75% of your customers are NOT considered essential, that means you have no sales coming in.  My company announced furloughs would be happening last week, on Friday.  Thankfully, I survived that one.  Others did not, with over 600 people furloughed in my company on Friday.  They furloughed a couple of more people yesterday from my branch.  I am busy, just not overwhelmed busy, because I have several healthcare places, as well as a couple of assisted living facilities, in my book of business.  I have a new customer in implementation right now, who is also considered "essential" because they are a social service type organization, Easter Seals.  They want to start on April 1st, which is becoming a challenge to accomplish.

Then, since I've not a ton to do, I've been calling my customers, just reaching out to see how they are, if they're working.  I finally reached someone I work with at Marriott Corporation today (they're HQ'd here in Maryland) and this thing has devastated their industry.  I haven't been able to reach anyone there this week because they've furloughed a lot of people, and have been staggering it for a few weeks now, or have cut back people to part time.

I don't know why, but I feel calm, even though I am probably a bit depressed.  It's been raining here so that adds to the gloom.  I have had a great time looking out of my home office window, watching people walk their dogs IN THEIR PAJAMAS.....  Who does that?  Apparently, a lot of my neighbors!  Literally, a guy had on boxers and a bomber jacket, no umbrella or anything.  And army boots.  Then, you have others who are wrapped up so tight in clothing, all you see are two slits for their eyes, and they look ridiculous.  These types of people are probably those types who cough all over you in the supermarket, but if they go out to just walk their dog, they're super covered up and "concerned" about catching COVID-19.  Anyhow, that's how I pass my time during the day.

That, and yearning for this to be over with the least amount of casualties.  And worrying about anyone and everything.  And worried that we all may not get out of this alive, if our federal government has anything to do with it.

    Oy.....it's a mess, isn't it?

Wow....I'm going to look again.  I just looked at this over the past weekend to see if there was anything new on it, though.  I could swear I only saw 4 episodes there.

    Thanks for the heads up

Also Chef's Table for food. It's so beautifully filmed. My fave was the one about Jeong Kwan.

I forgot Flea Bag (Amazon), Flight of the Conchords (Amazon and HBO) and Derry Girls (Netflix) for levity. I have to put on the subtitles to watch Derry Girls. Gonna check out Self Made!

I've seen Chef's Table, too, which was awesome.  Here in the states, though, there have only been 4 episodes released on Netflix...I've been waiting for more!  Jeong Kwan, who  I am familiar with, was not one of the episodes.

  13. Here's the thing when it comes to rating stuff.  For me, it's either great or it's awful.  If it's awful, I stop watching it, therefore, I can't rate it.

    If I continue to watch it, it's because it's great, therefore, it's a 5/5.

    Yes, I'm that simple....and that easy.  !!!

The Great British Baking show. It's such a breath of fresh air. I give it 5 Golden Calgons.

Yes!  That's on my list and I've watched a couple of episodes.

Here's a good one on Netflix that I watched last year- The Final Table. Rating:  5/5  (I'm so easy)

If you're into food, it was an amazing series

I was thinking, by way of trying to keep my nerves in check, that we might start a "What are you watching" thread.

I know my tastes will differ from many people but we might make some discoveries that others could enjoy. And "enjoy" is a rare commodity at this point. CDN Netflix is more limited than the US version, but anything I'd suggest from there will be available in the US.

    To start,

    1. I tried "Humters" last week on Amazon and couldn't get past the first episode...even with Pacino serving a lot of ham. Too comic-booky for me [remember my tastes will differ] {Calgon Take Me Away Rating .5/5]
    2. I'm saving the last ep of "The New Pope" -- a slice of heaven and exquisitely made. [Calgon Take Me Away Rating 4.75/5]
    3. Last night I watched "The Current War" [Apple] with Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon, about the rivalry between Edison and George Westinghouse--fascinating for me, aside from anything else, because I've taught a lot of this material in various film and media courses. It's engrossing and well made. [Calgon Take Me Away Rating: 4/5]
    4. PLL was carrying on about Truffaut, so we watched [or she looked up occasionally while texting similarly confined friends] "Breathless," and I remembered how much I loved Belmondo. And maybe the stupid French New Wave dialogue not so much. [Calgon 3/5]

Next is to unearth the DVD player because I have literally hundreds of movies...

Not a network TV person [other than two soaps] and not a fantasy person. I am looking forward to "Self Made," about one of my sources of fascination, Madame C J Walker [Netflix], with Octavia Spencer, whom I adore.

    There's a start, if anyone's interested.

The first thing I thought of to mention was "Self Made" !!  I watched two of the four episodes yesterday afternoon and loved it.  I am really looking forward to the other two.  [Calgon take me away rating:  5/5]
