Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode

Gwen and Xander were such fun today! I can't blame her at all for wanting to get back at the smug jerk known as Abigail. Hopefully when Jack finds out he won't hold it against her. My gosh is Lamon Archey a good looking man. I enjoy Eli and Lani (except for her strange friendship with Kristen) and wish RC would give them more to do. I also like Lani and Abe as father/daughter and was actually surprised today when she confessed about being suspicious of Paulina. I thought she'd keep that to herself for awhile. Today was my first time seeing the new Claire. She seems fine. I'll probably always miss ORK, though, especially there at the end of her contract when Claire became completely unwound. -

Didn't get to see much of the show today because of all the news break-ins. I was hoping to see flashbacks of Chloe in high school since those times precede my viewership. Anyway, I also like the new EJ. And Duke the talking stuffed bear. GG's Rafe is actually charming to me when he's being ironic, cynical and/or funny. He isn't given enough opportunity to play any of that because he's put into stories that require him to be mopey and stupid, or rage-inducingly hypocritical. This is a device Ron Carliavati employs from time to time. On One Life to Live it was a dog and a baby talking sense to each other about characters in distress. I'm pretty sure he did something similar on General Hospital but I don't remember who/what the conduit for sanity was, or the other characters involved, or the plot, lol. It's just something RC does, and IMO one of the things he does well. -

Is the Ava that visited (and is apparently involved with) Rafe today the same Ava that Joey smothered a few years ago? If so, why on earth did they undead her? Was it to redeem Joey? Again if so, couldn't they have done all that without bringing the character of Ava back on screen? FFS, she's as boring and useless as Abigail. I enjoyed Sami and Lucas today. That's all I got. -

So there was an episode Friday? It was interrupted here. I thought along with the money Sami stole from Stefano that she also had company stock ... which she then split with Belle. My viewing over the last few years has been sporadic and my memory is not great anyway, so maybe the stock part never happened or it did happen and was then retconned? -

I loved Chad blackmailing Kate. She'd do it to him if the roles were reversed, and they both know it. That was a good scene between them. The naming and calling of the Dimera family with Tony/Chad and Gabi/Jake was fun. I don't understand why Sami and Belle don't have a vote, though. EJ stiffing the ex collection on the drinks bill was a nice touch. I also liked Sami standing up for herself and telling EJ not to threaten her. That was me. He played a horrible character on OLTL and his acting tics were really annoying. Also, he was the pet of the EP at the time and his character's family ate the show for years. I still think the Rappaports had a lot to do with the demise of that soap. Guess I'm still bitter, haha! -

My soap enjoyment threshold is pretty low - if there's no Corinthii, no Fords, no Michelle Stafford, and no Kale Brown, I'm probably happy. Today's episode far exceeded that bare minimum. Even the dorky Tripp dancing and completely unbelievable eating of a brownie that just came out of the oven without mouth burning. I even liked Julie (!) and that's never happened before. It must be fun for SSH to play her preachy, judgemental character with this new set of actors instead of just being a prop for boring, useless Abigail. Xander and Gwen were everything, though. It's truly a testament to Paul Telfer's acting abilities that Xander is someone I want to watch. It wasn't too long ago that he was a vicious misogynist that I wanted to DIAF, which was again due to his ability to play a trash human being. Thankfully one of TIIC saw what they had with him and didn't blow it, for once. -

Really enjoyed Kayla and Steve today. Chloe and Phillip, too. AZ was also good but I don't understand why Nicole doesn't just fess up. Someone upthread suggested that Eric should come home with his own confession of cheating. She still did wrong but it'd be nice to not have Nicole berated again for being a horrible person. I mean, Eric would still drag her through the mud but she could give it right back to him. And it might make him interesting for once. Maybe. Brady taking Nicole's side over Eric's doesn't really surprise me. He will always blame Eric for getting raped by Kristen. Dude's a dolt. It was awesome! -

Thank you, Boes!!! It's great to see you, too! I haven't seen Chanel or the new, grown up Allie yet but am loving that this story is giving people the opportunity to share and learn. It makes the world a better place, for sure. Hopefully Ron won't fuck it all up, haha! Thank you, too FnkyChkn34! I missed Vivian the last time she was on and need to read up on her backstory. So is Kristen now playing the role that Ron had Jerry Jax play on GH a few years ago? A psycho who only drops in occasionally to take hostages, shoot/poison people, and then cackle on the way out of town? -

Hello old friends! I haven't posted here in a long time but have dived in to watching soaps again and of course popped in here to say hi and chat. My goodness is Paul Telfer sexy. Like James Scott-level sexy, and that's saying something because IMO James Scott is the sexiest man on any soap I've ever watched. Today when Xander and Nicole were talking about Sami and Lucas sexing it up, the sparks were flying! Yes, I also think EJ knows about Sami/Lucas. So far I'm liking the new guy. No one can compare to JS, but if he takes the character in a different direction (which he should, given all that EJ has been through the past few years) then I'll be interested. If they pair him with boring Abigail, though, he will be dead to me. Also, EJ needs to take revenge on Clyde sooner rather than later. Camila Banus is as glorious as ever. I really enjoyed her and AS today. Does Gabi share custody of Ariana with Will and Sonny? Sami and Lucas are magic. Hopefully the show will put them together at long last. Is Jake not a Dimera? I haven't read all the character recaps yet and just assumed he was an amnesiac Stefan. -
I also really liked To Catch a Spy. As usual with HMM movies, the supporting cast was fantastic. Sara, the photographer, was a standout! I did miss a bit with why the ambassador allowed herself to be blackmailed, but I'm easy to please and didn't let it bother me. So this movie was originally Destination Mystery or something, correct? I thought it was supposed to be a series and would be titled like Aurora Teagarden or Chronicle Mysteries (so Destination Mysteries: To Catch a Spy). Hopefully titling it in the singular doesn't mean there won't be more in the series. It's a great concept and I'd love to see more of the world. Malta is gorgeous!

I hope so, too. While I love all the series (except for the matchmaker ones), these two are the ones I like best. Like some others, I'll miss the restaurant in the Morning Show Mysteries. The chef and his dog were cute. But, I liked the reporter guy and the new detective. ETA: I'd ***love*** to see some new Darrow & Darrow mysteries, too. That cast was fantastic.

I don't know. HMM's scheduling has always been strange. I'd love to see episodes of Perry Mason, Matlock, Columbo, Diagnosis Murder, Monk, etc., every day (and some of the old British mysteries would be great, too), but instead they run blocks of just one show for hours at a time ... and then disappear a series for months or drop it all together.
-
When I saw Murder, She Wrote in Matlock's daytime spot I thought for a second that HMM wasn't going to air MSW in it's normal late night run. Thankfully it's still there. I watch MSW most every night (even though its annoying it's now from 11-3 instead of 10-2), and I'd be ever so pissed if they pulled it from the late night schedule. Like some others, Matchmaker Mystery is my least favorite. The only part that surprised me in the newest movie was near the end when Victor's character tossed his handcuffs to Danica's character to restrain the murderer. That was well done. But the rest, eh. Their relationship is much more believable as friends. Partly that's due to her not great acting ability, but also because he towers over her. Maybe if Danica was taller or Victor was shorter they wouldn't look so much like a big brother-little sister duo? I don't know. Also, I don't like any of her outfits. Usually the heroines in these movies have nice coats, sweaters and boots/shoes, but poor Danica get stuck with ugly dresses and pumps. Whatever. The real mystery is why this series is being made but not more Emma Fielding or Gourmet Detective movies. I'm looking forward to the new detective in the Morning Show Mysteries. I didn't mind the other guy but he was pretty low energy.

I like the Rev but Deutch is a gasbag in ugly glasses. Does anyone know why Ali Velshi was moved to the weekends?
-
I'll have to look up the changes at CNN but sincerely hope they don't involve Brianna Keiler. Her take-downs are glorious!
-
I liked the new Crossword Mystery but I'm easy. If it's a cozy mystery then I'm watching. It's a bonus if the characters are likable and there aren't too many plot holes. The pairing of Lacey and Brennan really works for me as well, and I was reminded how much I liked him with Brooke Shields when HMM ran a couple of Flower Shop Mysteries last weekend (or the weekend before, can't remember). I'd also like to know if there are any Morning Show Mysteries in the works, as well as my perennial favorite Emma Fielding. @LuvMyShows the blonde woman is Tess's Aunt Candace. The guy who played Morgan is Locklyn Munro. He's done several other HMM movies but will always have a place in my heart as Monk's Fat Tony.

The people responsible for programming this channel are awful. Every time I turn it on, something's changed. Yes, the loss of Diagnosis Murder (and Hart to Hart before that) are disappointments. Adding LHotP just makes it worse. And while I'm complaining, I don't like and will never like that they pushed Murder, She Wrote from 10pm - 2 am to 11pm -3am, or that new mysteries are apparently now premiering at 7pm instead of 8pm. I missed half of the new Martha's Vineyard movie because of it and still haven't seen the whole thing.
-
I didn't mind it. The subtext of people you once knew changing into something unrecognizable, and being happy with where you are in life even if it's not where you thought you'd be, was appealing. Or at least it was believable. Because even if you suspend disbelief at the number of murders that happen in this tiny town and which are solved by a librarian with a great coat and sweater collection, that is easier for me to believe than the number of huge houses Aurora lives in one after another after another. I know she inherited a house at one time and had that as seed money, so to speak, but come on! Anyway, the blonde woman who played the wife of the murder victim has been in previous mysteries (Murder 101 and Darrow & Darrow are two that come to mind) and she always impresses me. It was also good to see the regular crew, especially Sally, though I still miss John.
-
I also really enjoyed the PenaVega movie and think the cast interactions are great. Also looking forward to the new Aurora Teagarden movie on Sunday. I'm depressed that this channel is going 24/7 Christmas next week, though. I was hoping they'd at least keep the regular mystery shows on for the late night/early morning hours.
-
Thank you @TVFan17! Yes, I never trust Hallmark when it comes to programming. The last bit of trust I had for their schedulers evaporated after they pulled Crossword Mystery last October.and started airing 24/7 Christmas movies even earlier than the previous year. It must be as vexing for the stars of these movies as it is for us viewers. Hopefully my favorites will return at some point. I'm crossing my fingers that HMM will keep their regular late night schedule when they go Christmas this year, like they did when they went Christmas for half of July.
-
Hopefully it will @mikeb! CTS was in the new sleuth mystery promo HMM was running before the shutdowns hit (old clips from Emma Fielding were used) so I figured they were making at least one more movie. It's good to hear there were definite plans to do so. I adored that whole cast and wish they'd made a ton more films. It would be great if HMM took the opportunity to create even more new series than they had planned before. Sarah Strange deserves her own mystery series and I'd love to see Jen Lilley in something. JL would make a great Annie Laurance Darling.
