  1. This is a little late, but Perry was on Graham Norton back in January and he suffered from the same speech impediment (not sure what else to call it). There was lots of speculation after the airing about dental work or a less savory source of the problem (drugs/alcohol, even a stroke was suggested). He was totally charming throughout, though the problem became much more pronounced as the hour wore on. Also, Perry's play in London is why he could not attend the James Burrows tribute in person. It's his own work, and I can understand him not wanting to blow it off as he tries to reinvent himself as a playwright. I doubt Burrows took the absence personally. These Friday night reruns during a week of new shows are tiresome. This is the fifth or sixth time since February that Colbert has been off on a Friday. The first time, it made sense - he had done the live Sunday show post-Super Bowl. None of the rest since then are really excusable (not even tonight, because of the 11:35 Masters recap). Carson earned the privilege of four and then three day work weeks after several decades at The Tonight Show. The last thing Stephen's show needs is to become unreliable with new episodes given he hasn't even been on the air (in this format) for nine months yet.
  2. I hate to say but I suspect it's almost entirely because of poor work by Rodie. It seemed strange to leave so much about the original investigation not touched upon, and the things that were, were things being done now because they weren't done then. And honestly, focusing on the ex having remarried so quickly - hello, Rodie, with six marriages under your belt. How would his relationship history hold up under close scrutiny? I know the partner made a comment about that, but it was fleeting compared with the amount of talk made about the suspicious-ness of the ex's behavior, based on his marital history. Personally, the ex was also very smart to not talk to the police without legal counsel present at any point. That should be the first thing anyone is ever taught about talking with the police. Do not buy into "if you're innocent, why wouldn't you talk/come in/offer DNA"? There's a million reasons to have a lawyer at your side and not a single good one for cooperating just to prove you are "not suspicious." I doubt without a confession that they will ever be able to close the case.
  3. There's no reel if you don't get nominated first. That only comes after the fact and unfortunately I don't see the show making the cut for Emmy nominees, though I do enjoy it.
  4. Would it be that it might have sparked a fire that destroyed the Downton and all those in it. I would have liked an all-star reunion of the disposed of beaus, fiancés and imposters: Melty Face! Strallan! Gregson! Gillingham! Charles Blake! The other guy!
  5. During the many Edith/Talbot scenes, I kept thinking how Carmichael and Goode had far more spark together than Dockery and Goode.
  6. Kelly and Tom's Instant Take for the finale is up: http://baldmove.com/up-yours-downstairs/downton-abbey-instant-take-s06e09/ Lots of funny observations but my favorite was, "And Bates died on the way back to his home planet."
