I appreciate your candid response.  I had read about technology lacking in the Crosstrek.  I’ll have to factor that in.  I hadn’t considered a Ford Escape, but I will now.

    I’m now wondering….do I want a hybrid?  Hmmmm….

Well, now I’m doing the deep dive. Which is good. It’s a lot of money. So, I’m exploring Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, Crosstrek, Rave 4 and Kia Sportage.

Thank you for your help on this.

Not exactly the same, but we just bought a Mazda CX-9 a couple months ago and we absolutely love it. It’s so fun to drive, and it has so many useful features. We got the Carbon edition and it’s mid range on features but feels loaded. I’m still driving a 2008 CR-V and it feels like a tin can in comparison. Definitely recommend a test drive.

  2. Could someone please DM me the alternatives as well?  I’ve been around since TWOP days and don’t want to lose this group!  One of the rare places on the internet with intelligent discussions and lots of laughs. I hate what’s happening. I have no interest in forums devoid of snark 🥱

  3. I feel the same as many of you, I’ve watched these people for so long that I’m heartbroken for what they’re going through. It’s devastating enough to lose a child, but suicide adds more layers of pain. I have no interest in seeing their pain on camera, that’s not something they need to share with the viewing public. The show needs to end.

From what I've seen done they have to be attached to the studs in the wall. They cannot just be stuck in a hole cut in wallboard without support. [They being the electrical boxes for outlets and light switches.] The position of the mirror was apparently determined by where the electrical had to go.

All I know is that in the vast majority of cases, a professional contractor could find a way to have the sink and mirrors lined up correctly. I couldn’t live with that, it would drive me insane.

Yeah, TLC Go doesn't work without a cable provider, they don't show up on Hulu once they've already aired -which is beyond stupid, normally when there's a new SW episode, half of the entire day is dedicated to repeat episodes leading up to the new one - and HBO Max doesn't have them.

But thank you to @General Days for the TLC link, which should work for me once I break the code and decipher their numbering system.  Sheesh, TLC.  DO BETTER.  You need to understand that it's people like us who are keeping this show on your channel!

@laurakaye if you’re on Facebook, try searching Sister Wives Season 18 Episode 19. I found it that way and used Apple Airplay to cast it to my TV.  So stupid it’s not on Max!

  6. Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but did anyone else catch when Meri said (regarding her marriage to Kody) that nothing had happened to break the covenant at that time?  My mind immediately went to Robyn’s spiel about the only way to break the covenant is to sleep with another man.  Could Meri have found herself a man?  Or am I desperately grasping at straws for something interesting in this drawn out tell nothing?  I think the latter is more likely 😏

Yeah, no kidding. I'd like to see all of their reactions to learning that bit of info. Poor little Robyn, cap in hand, just wanting to fit in to the family...while dragging her massive ball and chain of debt behind her. I'd be piiiissssed.

Especially considering she wasn’t working!  I’d be a terrible sister wife, because there’s no way in hell I’d work to pay off her debts while she sat on her butt doing nothing.

I had my bariatric surgery on Monday and all went well. The surgeon was surprised and impressed that I'd lost 48 lbs on my own BEFORE surgery (so was I). I now have five little incisions, 4 for the stomach part and 1 to repair a hiatal hernia that was also there. Not big enough for a surgery of its own, but while they were there, they fixed it. Spent one night in the hospital and came home yesterday afternoon. The pain started after dinner time and I started pain pills while I'll take through today to stay ahead of things while also sipping on water and protein shakes. This week is liquid diet, next week I can add more purreed stuff, and then on scrambled cheesy eggs, etc. I'm excited about the possibilities ahead and plan to stick to the regime because it works.

Thanks, all of you - and especially @Gramto6 - for your support!

Wishing you a speedy recovery!  I was planning to have gastric bypass myself this year and like you, I started losing weight on my own while working to get approval. They told me it was okay to lose weight, they’d go by my initial weigh in. Well, t ended up taking 8 months to finally get approval, by then I’d lost 60 pounds and then they tell me I’ve lost too much and my insurance won’t approve it 🤦‍♀️

I was on the fence anyway so I’m just going to make it work. I’ve lost 77 pounds at this point and want to lose another 35. If I can only do 25 that’s okay too. What’s most important to me is getting to a weight I can maintain without killing myself. I’m really afraid of gaining it back, the statistics on maintaining a large weight loss are dismal. That’s a big reason I wanted the surgery in the first place, it helps with maintenance. Either way though, you have to permanently change your habits. Please keep us posted on your progress!

    Long-haul trucker.

HA! I kid, I kid. No idea what she did.

After rewatching thru season 11 now, you can see all the signs of Kody's narcissism from the start — it just used to be a lot more subtle. For instance, after the catfishing (OMG I had forgotten how much they dragged that sucker out), when Kody and Meri are in her backyard and he mentions that she asked him not to come stay, she says, "Well you said you wouldn't cross a burning bridge for me." And he immediately, in a soft, soothing voice says, "I didn't say that. I don't recall saying that. I would never say that," and you can see Meri's frustration and confusion. The gaslighting was more subtle then, but it was there.

There are bits and bobs of that throughout the early seasons — it was just said in a kinder tone or with a laugh and a twinkle.

I think that as long as Kody was the center of attention everywhere he went and kids were clamoring for his attention, he was getting his narcissistic supply. But as they grew up, moved out, moved on, started to understand who and what dad was, the supply shrank and Kody started to devolve until now he's in a state of narcissistic collapse. It's why he's so into Robyn - she and the two older girls continue to fill that need, which he stopped getting at Meri's when Mariah moved out and got less at Janelle's and Christines as the older kids graduated.

Rewatching in light of the last few seasons is... fascinating really.

I’ve never heard of narcissistic collapse before, but that describes Kody’s behavior to a tee!

I don't. If she doesn't have Meri around to be "better than" and to manipulate, all she is is a frumpy monogamous wife of an angry misogynist. Meri hanging around gave her legitimacy as queen bee, and it also gave her somebody to validate her totally romanticized view of polygamy.

When Robyn said she was torn between begging Meri to stay or telling her to go be free and happy, I took that to mean she’s dying to tell Meri to go away but can’t because of the show 😏. I do think she enjoys lording her relationship with Kody over Meri, but not enough to want her around. Robyn is not Meri’s friend.

Also, this season is so boring. Nothing is happening, just lots of staged conversations in that Mexican restaurant.  Much as I enjoy snarking on these fools, it’s time to pull the plug on the show and enter the next phase of their disintegration - life without the show money. Now that will be interesting to watch!

I don't even believe Kody that he wants to get back together. He just wants to say he wants to get back together, on TV.

Yes, so he can say that it wasn’t his fault they split 🙄

I felt sorry for Anna until scandal 1. She got chained to J'inmate when she was incredibly young and the people who were supposed to be guiding her chucked her under the bus (JB because I think he legit believed that a dutiful wifey would cure FF and Mr Keller... well amongst the daughters who stayed fundie, David Waller aka the Pecan Thief/possible groomer is probably the best of the bunch husband-wise and that is a looooow bar). I even get why Anna didn't kick J'Inmate firmly to the curb after the first two scandals sent him to Jesus Jail. She had four kids and was raised to be completely dependent on a headship (plus, I think she might have gotten a fair bit of milage in their circles for being the martyred wife).

What I don't feel sorry for is the choices she made post Ashly Madison. She could have had a conveniently timed migraine every month, she could have done what seems to be tacitly approved for fundie women who have deadbeat husbands (see Carlin Bates, Jill Rod and even Jill Duggar when Derick was trying to figure out what the hell he was doing with his life) and start a "home based business". Not that I would generally recommend selling plexus or similar, but something to start an escape fund would have been smart. Instead, she popped out another handful of m&ms and doubled down on the cracker crumbs

Totally agree. If she’d stopped having kids post scandal, she’d have four school age kids and she could work during the day. Of course, they’d never send their kids to public school 🙄 and a job is out of the question, but four older kids would still be much easier to handle alone than seven kids.
