  1. I guess I'm turning in to a hard, cold bitch because even though I usually have zero tolerance for bratty teen angst, I actually liked Carter and found myself rooting for her. I like that she's an unlikeable antiheroine, that's more interesting to me, it will give the (inevitable, I think) thaw with Elizabeth more resonance. Elizabeth could not be handling anything any worse, and even though intellectually she's perfectly correct in her reactions I just don't like her, and I'm embarrassed to say I laughed out loud at the mall scene, partially because I didn't see it coming, so good for you, show. They have glossed over a ton of stuff, and montage flashbacks of shopping trips with KidnapperMom aren't enough there. I hope they show that she was actually a good mom, not just CoolMom or FunMom or BFFMom. Was she aware of Carter's recreational drug use? Or her penny-ante juvinile delinquent antics? It's a pretty complicated situation emotionally and psychologically, however distasteful it comes across when Carter defends Lori. Grant is great, Taylor has potential. It's always an adjustment for me when Alexis Denisof does his American accent, I'm always like, Wesley what you playin' at? Never been much of a fan of Cynthia Watros' moist eyes, so that is what it is. I do prefer Kathryn more as Carter than as the Bean Queen on Reign, that's for sure.
  2. Yeah, Molly's cluelessness took me right out of the show. Can this woman not read a room? The whole family vibe was incredibly tense, but she insists on telling Bassam to hug it out as if his father is Ole Crankypants from On Golden Pond. Idealism is one thing, but in a post-9/11 world I find it incredible to believe that a mother of children with a Middle Eastern last name wouldn't have made it her business to know every aspect of what is going on in Abbudin, or at the very least force her husband to actually tell her what's going on with him and his family. For her to tell him he's "joyless" -- bitch why have you been putting up with his joyless ass for 19 years? This is a marriage? Sammy. Oy. Hopefully whatever happens to him doesn't get too ugly, but I don't hold out hope for that given the several sexual assaults, murders, explosions and assorted violence we were treated to in the pilot. I try not to get too aggravated by a teenage character's insouciance about reality, but his "sweet!" responses to all the luxury, while understandable, also bugged. And papa's last words, "it should have been you" [subtext: because you were the one who had the cojones to shoot up a dude when you were 10] - that was a chiller. These people don't play.
  3. Caroline is a bitch. It's amazing how someone "born into society" could be so utterly classless. And not for nothing, she may say that Noelle's "scandal" is what puts her beyond the pale, but their meeting totally reminded me of Gretchen's introduction to RHOC, when Tamra got a first glance at a younger, hotter version of herself and singsonged, "lock up your husbands." And WTF about not being surprised Marissa's husband married an American, as "I'm sure she's amazing in the kitchen." The hell? Maybe she thinks she's witty. I love how being British is synonymous with not being enthusiastic about anything. Heaven forfend. It would be so much better if any of these women seemed more self-aware, or in on the joke of themselves and/or the show.
  4. Just thought of another reason why Peter endorsed Finn; along with cutting Castro off at the knees and (hopefully) pleasing Alicia, by announcing the endorsement he's being proactively transparent, even mentioning that Eli had collected the signatures. One continuity question -- I thought Peter got the youth vote by promoting progressive marijuana legislation. But it sounded like he was about to announce he was against that? Did I hear that correctly. And I know it's not PC, but I can't help but love it when Eli shrieks at his staff, it's so...ELI. Still remember the scene where he's physically "strangling" the head of the DNC. I don't know any other actor who could get away with that stuff.
  5. I keep thinking that Levin Ramblin's character (Obnoxious Blonde, don't know her name) is a plant sent by the Founder to destabilize the sewer TPs. Kind of hope Stephen's dad is gone, the actor never impressed me, especially when compared to the charisma of Mark Pellegrino. The Founder is unkillable. How did he survive that blast? We didn't see him teleport in or out, or even dive under a desk FFS. I like the John/Astrid stuff, but it's like a different (better written) show. Where is this show going? (Other than the cancellation heap).
  6. I think the move to Monday nights has killed this show. The ratings suck, and if it's a choice between this and The 100, which has fallen a little but started out more strongly, I don't think TTP will survive. ETA: I find it hilarious that so far the only characters who merit their own threads are John & Astrid.
