I loved loved, LOVED the scenes with Nancy and Sister Frances when they were going through what the young girls had written for the suggestion box (apart from the seirous issue of poor Deborah - in my head she had her name spelled like mine - and the NSPCC).  It's wonderful that Sister Frances can interact with someone who's her age and isn't a nun.

I feel like it's a (lovely!) younger version of the friendship between Sr Julianne and Shelagh.

  2. I'd love to see an episode where the squad investigates a comedian on a live late night sketch show. And borrows cast and set from SNL to do it. Like the SNL cast literally just plays themselves with different names. And shoots in 8H. Make Kate McKinnon the killer, I believe she could pull it off.

I'm hoping Matthew proposes in the Christmas episode and then the wedding is the season finale.

The problem there is Trixie getting married means Trixie leaving her job at Nonnatus. It's 1968, she'll have an infant stepson and her husband doesn't live locally. We saw with both Shelagh and Chummy that motherhood drastically reduced their work hours. I suspect that Trixie won't marry until Helen decides to leave.

Having Owen goad the guy was crafty. But unnecessary. The woman was right there and had a bruise on her mouth. She could immediatley report him for hitting her and he would be arrested.

Well unfortunately we live in a world where domestic violence victims aren't always believed. Women are dismissed as lying or hysterical or counter-accused of assault when defending themselves. Her children are potentially the only witnesses which means they'll be questioned by police and possibly in a court room.

Owen getting hit in front of adult witnesses is going to be seen differently. And handled differently in the legal system

Catherine, as usual, is awful. Bailey...isn't necessarily wrong about needing to take a vacation to avoid stressing herself out, but does she even have a plan on who's gonna be her interim chief while she's gone for a few days?

I would argue that to an extent, coverage is not completely Bailey's problem. What if she had another heart attack tomorrow or tested positive for Covid? The hospital/Fox Foundation would have to figure it out.

Wow, based on how cold Shelagh was to Timmy, perhaps neither nursing nor the sisterhood was the proper vocation for her.

Shelagh definitely has a cold streak. It's subtle because she usually says the right words but it's there. I really thought it came last season with that poor teenager who's mother took her baby away.

My theory is that ultimately Shelagh has had a charmed life and no real permanent knocks to show her that everything isn't always roses. You're leaving the convent and renouncing your vows? Remain a close friend of the sisters and with no judgement or anger from them. Infertility issues? Quick adoption and a miracle pregnancy. Biological mother has isses consenting to a second adoption? Mum is conveniently half a world away. Marrying a widower with a child? Child accepts you as his mother immediately with no turbulence (when is the last time there was ever any mention of Tim's mom, whom he surely loved and has memories of?).

She's a married, working mother with three small children in the 1960's and *no one* is commenting? It was one thing for a poor family to have mom working or a widow needing a job but a doctor's wife with a nice house and a nanny would really be getting a lot more side-eye.

As far as we know they never even met Bobby prior to the wedding. We never got to see them react to the news that their mom was dating him or what their reaction was when she told them they were getting married. I guess they were just on board immediately, but why? I don't think the writers gave it much though. The kids were more or less props back then. It's only been since Bobby and Athena hooked up that the kids have been given any kind of real agency, especially May.

The kids met Bobby at the start of Season Two, after the earthquake. Michael made a big deal of inviting him in for dinner when Bobby stopped by to check on Athena. And he was shown spending quite a bit of time at the house, even before the engagement.

[EDDIE] Josh, you're a dispatcher, not a firefighter. Today, you're a guest in this house.

    • [JOSH] He's been waiting months to say that.

Loved that line delivered by Bryan Safi as Josh! He really deserves to have a bigger role on a comedy show. Maybe he and the new not-evil guy can get a new show together. IDK. Has there ever been a comedy spinoff of a drama?

But, I have a possibly sillier question:
How did Eddie magically appear in firefighter gear?

Snarky Josh is the best Josh.

Eddie met the 118 outside when they arrived. Bobby told him to grab turnouts and go in with Buck.

  9. May is becoming more like her mother every day.

And I think something has genuinely healed in Bobby being called 'Dad'.

Loved seeing the 118 race for Cap.

No more Claudette and it was even an interesting send off!

Welcome back Firefighter Diaz and fare thee well Firefighter Han.

Good callback on Josh having fire isses and trusting cute guy issues.

She may have been handed the clothes she wore when she entered the convent to take vows. I know I have seen that in nun movies.

She was. Sister Juilanne and Sister Evangelina had a whole conversation about it. And then we saw Sister J returning the suitcase to Shelagh

  11. I'm guessing the Winebrary didn't survive the pandemic so Poppy got her real-estate license 😁

That was a great goodbye! And those pictures at the end. The kids were just babies!

This isn't the first time I've seen people say something like this and I'm curious about what people want from Maddie's story.  Maddie got sick.  She felt like she was a danger to her child.  She left the child with her father where she felt she'd be safe.

She eventually got better.  She still feels guilty and nervous being around her daughter and it's clearly a process.  She and Chim broke up.  Is Chim yelling at her going to make her feel worse or prove a point.  Is trying to establish sole custody something he's interested in or the best thing for his daughter?  The fact that he went looking for her shows that trying to get Maddie out their child's life isn't something he wants to pursue and he likely wouldn't get it anyway since her choices are directly linked to her PPD.

    Thank you!

Is Maddie supposed to be on her knees begging forgiveness? I've actually been really impressed with how maturely this whole thing has been handled. Like actual adults, not a CW teen soap.

I sincerely hope not not. Putting them together would ruin the dynamic of the house, and they both work together as the two captains. And this show, like the mothership, haven't pushed those inner-house relationships. Bobby and Athena don't work together so it's not that weird.

I deeply appreciate that both shows avoid the intra-workplace romances.

George has always been good at giving kids encouragement and advice. I will be very disappointed if he's not now.

I think George will recognize there are times when your kid is in so much trouble that you have to skip past being upset and just deal with the issue. All the yelling in the world won't make the baby go away. All that will happen is Georgie getting belligerent about the help and guidance he needs.

    Mary on the other hand....

Well, I guess now we know for sure when the show is in time (Asimov died April 6, 1992).

"Well, if it helps, I turn 18 in March."

So Georgie is just barely 17? Ooh, this is a rough situation.

George and Mary are going to have their hands full. Might be one of those times when a kid has screwed up past the point of getting mad at them. Hollering at him will make everything worse.

Glad Georgie did have Dale to talk to. An adult that isn't going to start yelling is what he needs now.
