  1. The more annoying I find Santina, suddenly the country wants to save her.  Go figure.  At least they saved somebody non-white this time.

She was so nasty to Anika about the food, and for what?  Nobody forced her to eat that or act like that. And she immediately goes into victim mode when anyone calls her on anything.

I looked up Fire's IG and she has all these photos of her and her boyfriend, he also has a daughter that she considers a daughter. In Feb I think, she said she got into her 'dream' school, a dance school in NYC, then last month, March, she posted her and her kid on a plane moving to England to be with her boyfriend. So her sob story? WTAF?!?

Oh, and she was also in the Army...I mean, was Adun actually autistic? Did Cam really raise his siblings alone? Are any of these sob stories real or are they just yanking our chain?!?

    It's @Imfireofficial.

    @Iamfireofficial is a Scandinavian band.

  3. My list has:

The Family Stone (There's a whole thread on this forum where this is dissected to shreds)

Tea Leoni and William H. Macy in Jurassic Park 3 (They're just annoying lol)

I have some examples from Hallmark/Lifetime movies but I assume they're lesser known.

I saw Haul out the Holly last Christmas:

    Quote

Emily comes home to visit her parents, only to discover they're leaving for a trip of their own. While staying at their house for the holidays, Emily meets members of the community who want her to join in the neighbourhood's Christmas festivities.

Also I really like this movie called "Timeless Love".  The main character was in a coma (I forget how - car accident I assume) and after she came out of it she was staying at her parents' house and her mother was like "When are you going to get a job"?  LOL!

TIIC have neutered this show beyond recognition at this point. Remember Ms. Ophra? She was only like the best singer out of all the auditions. And she mysteriously gets 86'd during Week 1 of Hollywood week and we the viewers never even see what her Hollywood week performance was like? I call bullshit on this. Also, the auditions used to be a lot more interesting but now we see a handful of try outs dragged out over an hour or two, and pretty much all sound like ass to viewers but they all get tongue baths by the judges and let through? Again, bullshit.

This show has become all about the sob story. If you have a tale of woe that is compelling enough, apparently it's going to get you to Hollywood week now. And the setting up vulnerable people (Adin, Fire, and the other dude who raised his siblings) for a big fat fail, then send them home with a trite, "you're going to continue doing great things now that we've showed you what you can do...blah blah blah fishcakes!" These aren't judges, they're just playing a part in a producer-driven game.

I'm still very curious about The Ophra Story.

  5. When they had the 3 spots at the end for Iam, Matt Wilson, and Colin, (The sweet kid who cried after his audition), I thought it made sense because Matt Wilson picked a Chris Brown song and did not exactly perform it well.  I had high hopes for Matt but but oh well, and I assumed that he was the person who was eliminated by Katy when she wanted to push through PJ and Malik.  But then Matt and Colin made it through anyway, LOL.

Iam is just amazing, I am a fan for life.

Going back through the episode to try and pick up some names.

The Broadway singer was amazing - Ella.  I kind of have always found her earlier auditions suspicious because she wore smeared makeup and ugly clothes but sung amazingly lol.  But she just always likes wearing smudged eyeliner, that's her "style" I guess.

The one I was most surprised/impressed by was Elise Kristine.  Holy shit.  Where has she been? I don't even remember her from before but she blew me away.  The redhead, Olivia Soli, who has been in movies I think, hmmm.  I was not that impressed with her showstopper and it reminds me of how annoyed I was at what she did to Lionel's Hello.

Oh the volleyball girl.  Hannah. I feel bad, but i don't really get her!  I did not really get her performance.  And what did she mean, she's representing people who aren't normally represented?  Athletes?

Not even 1% surprised.  Her story has felt like producer manipulation from the jump.

  7. Somebody else pointed this out but I had the same thought:  If Kwame was head over heels for Chelsea I think moving wouldn't be such a hard thing to wrap his mind around.  But he's nervous, because he's worried they're not exactly compatible and she's not the woman of his dreams.

  8. Jackie berates Marshall to be more aggressive to her and then he said "I saw you as a project".  So?  He was being more aggressive towards her.  That's what she asked for.

Nothing Jackie wanted from Marshall or said to Marshall made any sense.  I don't blame Marshall for what he tried to do afterwards to please her.  She was impossible and he was trying his best.  She asked him to be someone he is not and he had no idea how to accomplish that.

That was the song he sang when he won, wasn't it? Pretty bold whenever someone picks a song from a former contestant. I did like that performance, myself, but yeah, that's always a risky move for a contestant.

I just don't ever know those songs.  I think I only know Fantasia's?  LOL.  And I don't even like her winning song.  I love Ruben, I love Philip Philips, blah blah blah but I don't know any of those winning songs.  So the entire performance I'm just distracted because I don't know the song enough to judge the performance.  I'm sure she's really talented, based on Katy's reaction to her earlier performance, so I just wish I saw something different so I could see that for myself.

  10. I'll start with the negative, cuz there isn't that much for me to say, but I thought

    1)  Michael Williams.  Katy thinks he's really hot.  He's handsome, but that performance was so bad.  I feel badly for whoever's spot he's taken.

    2)  The blonde girl who sang "Bird Set Fire".  ouch, that was not good.

    Positive:

I absolutely ADORED the two R&B singers.  PJ and Malik.  I don't believe for a second they cut someone to let both of them through, I think it's just manufactured TV drama.  Whatever.  In the end, it doesn't matter.  They're both amazing and if one of them had gotten cut for Michael Freaking Williams or someone else I might have set something on fire.  I think I teared up during either one or both of their performances I don't even remember if it was the showstopper or the sing off.  All 4 of the performances really moved me.

Zachariah certainly picked the right song with "Don't Stop me Now" and blew the house down.  That was great!

    Song choices:

Kiss from a Rose is wonderful, the performance wasn't, and she was cut.

Always Remember us this Way from A Star is Born is wonderful.  The performance was kinda cool, kinda off, but I'm intrigued.

Picking the Ruben Studdard song.  Sigh.  I love Ruben and all but I don't know that song.  I hate when they pick a past Idol's song.  Not a good choice for me.

The new Amazon Prime show, Daisy Jones and the Six, basically a Fleetwood Mac pastiche, includes a segment where the band performs on SNL (the real Fleetwod Mac never did as a group). A song "Aurora (Live from SNL)" was put out on Youtube, and here is the intro the show did.

Curtis Sittenfield talks about her SNL viewing experiences as well as her new book, which is a spin on SNL's much talked about backstage romances.

Omg thank you.  I loooooooooved Curtis's book "Eligible".

I don't care who bought it if it wasn't her. She was being petty on top petty so I will continue to clown her for that too. Every single move she made in the break up was a bad look. Every move. It's quite astonishing.

That is exactly what I said to a friend of mine!

Elvis is an icon, like Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin and the Beatles.   It is almost like being the descendant of royalty, maybe more benicial because it is entertainment. Even if you never listened to his music or watched his movies, you know who he is. Movies and miniseries are made about him every decade since he died up until last year (and got nominated for Oscars to boot). It was a huge deal when his daughter was briefly married to Michael Jackson in the 90s. No rocker, not from grudge, metal or even those that directly followed him in the 60s, took away his title as the "King of Rock and Roll."

Thanks for explaining this so well.

I watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom last week and it got me thinking of this thread, and how if nepotism in Hollywood was really that powerful, Jessica Capshaw would be a way bigger star.

Nepotism is very powerful but not everyone in the audience is going to respond well to every descendant of a star.  Yes, the audiences respond well to Angelina Jolie and Jamie Lee Curtis.  That doesn't mean audiences are going to feel the same about Jessica Capshaw.  Jessica has 4 children, maybe being an enormous star is not her number 1 priority.  She also left Grey's Anatomy willingly (according to her Wikipedia page), something that an actor not born of privilege may be not willing or able to do.  Her background probably affords her the luxury to say no to certain projects.

It looks like in 2022, she had both a movie and a show.  I'd say that's pretty good for a working actor.  Do you think an actor of her exact look and acting talent without the Spielberg connection would have those two same jobs today?  Funny enough, the star of the show in question, "Tell me Lies", is Grace Van Patten!  My goodness.  Of all the people.  And people still don't think that nepotism is powerful.

Oh my god, check out this show:  The two stars of "Tell me Lies" are Grace Van Patten and Jackson White, son of Katey Sagal.  I couldn't have created a better example if I was dreaming it up myself.

It's crazy how I just see Nepo Babies popping up everywhere.  I watch TCM a lot and there's a host that's always introducing the movies.  I couldn't help but start wondering how did this guy get this job?  Well, after looking it up, he is the grandson of the famous screenwriter that the movie "Mank" was based on.

My question is will Pepsi take the women to one of those bars where the entertainment uses ping pong balls in an unusual manner.

Honestly, I'm tired of jokes like this. Thailand is so much more than this yet American comedy always seems to reduce it to the sex trade.

My jaw dropped at Heather saying her two favourite hobbies were Capitalism and exploiting third world boutiques.  Also, just because you can haggle, doesn't mean you should.  That's definitely exploitation considering how much money these women have.

Poor Pepsi. He looks like he's on the verge of a mental breakdown. I can just imagine that he's thinking that if she's this accusatory with people she knows/from her own country/culture, it's only a matter of time before she turns to start accusing him and the staff when the bottle isn't found after the "searches".

Thailand is "The Land of Smiles" and is very reputable for the amazing hospitality so yeah.... he's taking this personally.  He sees it as an unsolveable problem and he's worried about his reputation, and maybe even Thailand at large.  The resort's at least.

  16. Quoting Dear Evette from an earlier episode thread:

    Quote

Chelsea is coming off a bit clingy and desperate.  I really liked her but she is dropping in my estimation.  I can see how Kwame is feeling smothered, she doesn't seem to hear him sometimes. Also, it was giving her cringe with her reciting his resume to her family.

I have officially had my fill of Chelsea.  She may be a nice person and all but I can take it no longer.  She is so performative.  Everything she does comes off as desperate, fake, a performance.  She is constantly spouting this propaganda about herself, Kwame, and the two of them together.  She talks about them like they're this grand fairy tale and they are not.  It's trying way too hard.

Say what you will about Kwame but at least I can read the emotions all over his face.  I have no idea of the outcome, and I absolutely don't want to know until it airs, but I hope he's not just leading her on.  Chelsea meanwhile, it's exhausting.  It's just exhausting and it doesn't feel real.  Now it's coming out that Kwame feels like he has to sacrifice some things and Chelsea seems controlling on top of everything else and like she does not want to hear about any of the real concerns that Kwame might have.

I'm happy that Kwame's siblings seem awesome. Where does Kwame live?

On the other hand, Bliss.  Bliss seems cool, nice, and level headed but I feel like the producers told her to act like she's unsure because she keeps dropping hints that she's unsure and I just don't buy it at all.
