  1. Shiffrin has had better than expected results in limited downhill runs this year, even winning after only a few downhill races. But she's at the stage in development where she needs a certain kind of course and course set to play to her strengths, and her camp is probably going through the training data right now to see if they think it's going to work for her here.
  2. It's a Latin year, so break out the bedazzler and be sure to make it extra tacky because the judges love it trashy for those years.
  3. Which sounds rather like the Japanese kayaking case that was all over the sporting press a few weeks back https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/jan/09/japanese-kayaker-spikes-rivals-drink-yasuhiro-suzuki
  4. A lot of PED use isn't about increasing strength but rather increasing endurance so it's easier to train harder for longer. Until the testing got decent for it, EPO use was endemic in many sports like cycling and nordic skiing because of the endurance boost from it.
  5. And meldonium is so early 2017.
  6. I would have thought curlers were some of the least likely to dope.
  7. Given that the OAR had to show negative samples before being allowed to compete, she would have been using recently.
  8. The US women have gotten to be a top 5 program in the past few years (the US men are still lucky to crack top 15) and have picked up a non-flukish number of big event podium spots along the way. Medals here were a bit aspirational but not unrealistic.
  9. If memory serves, songs with lyrics snuck in via ice dance- there was a year where the ISU put a rhythm/theme (maybe something like hip hop? It's a more modern rhythm) on the list for short dance the following year, only to discover a few months in that there were literally only about three skateable songs in the genre that didn't have lyrics, so they changed the rule to allow for lyrics in dance that year rather than change the rhythm, and when the world didn't end from that, songs with lyrics were allowed to spread to the other competition events.
  10. She is very vocal about not being a fan of the current president. (Shiffrin is also not, but is somewhat quieter about that.) Some people do not like her statements. I think I can go that far here, and will go back to liking the podium of redemption in the super-G. Anna Veith's silver comes after injury and Bode Miller's snarking about how she just hasn't been as good since she got married, and I always like seeing a Lichtenstein flag get raised, so I'm a Tina W. fan.
  11. Gotta say I'm not sure there was ever a time when 'Bridalplasty' would be considered to be good or even average television. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridalplasty
  12. I've become a Boyang fan over time- I like that he's trying to move beyond the jumping bean label he had when he made the senior ranks and that he actually seems to pick music a geeky teenage boy would pick when left to his own devices and follow his own path. For all the snark he got over the Spiderman program being 'too novelty', he sold the heck out of it.
  13. Yep. It ties into the 'Eteri is an asshole' narrative, even fi she does get results in the short run.
  14. Eteri Tutberidze, who is the coach of seeming most of the good baby Russians these days, seems to be a raging asshole toward many of her skaters at times. But she is also reportedly quite good at building a team that compensates for that, and finding sports psychologists who get her skaters focused and ready to perform to expectations at the highest level events.
  15. I wonder how Ross Miner is feeling today
  16. Bradie Tennell is a huge 'Spuernatural' fan- has watched every season several times, the music is on all her playlists, etc. http://www.justjaredjr.com/2018/02/14/olympic-figure-skater-bradie-tennell-opens-up-about-her-supernatural-obsession/ Now she's just got to do a 'Carry On Wayward Son' program because you know she's done the choreography for it in her head until it's perfect for the song.
  17. There's talk over on GS that he's got back issues that are significant enough he might just decide to retire and go out on a career high.
  18. Vonn's gotten introspective in recent years, probably due to how much time she's had to kill while in injury rehab. And has put some thought into her legacy and her sport and is doing things like paying expenses for teammates who don't have big endorsement deals of their own (Jackie Wiles, IIRC out with injury right now, is sponsored by Vonn) because she wants to see the next generation of US women in a position to do well. So I'm finding Vonn a lot more likeable than she used to be. And she's enjoying the moments more when they happen because they don't come as easily as they used to. It's fun watching her and Sofia Goggia crack each other up when they share a podium because they seem to have become such great friends outside of competition
  19. They have a really nice one with failed-to-qualify speedskater Sugar Todd that was airing on NBCSN and the Olympic Channel all winter long.
  20. Industrial grade Spanx under her costume? (ducking and running away)
  21. Farscape can be a hard rewatch for me because of the way they keep breaking Crichton into tiny little pieces, let him rebuild himself, and smash him into grains of sand to loop through the rebuilding process again. And yet there is so much awesomeness to the show I will go through it all every few years. While I'll skip a fair amount of season 5 because the Telegoths annoy me to no end, I'll also rewatch Babylon 5 every so often and marvel at how JMS really was so very OCD in terms of keeping the original storylines on track from the pilot on, and how there is no question of him making canon up as it went along. And while there are a fair share of gut punches in B5, it's not as consuming as Crichton's descent into mental illness.
  22. I really didn't like any of the characters on SATC, and rolled my eyes at the idea I somehow was supposed to connect to them. But the show cast people who could do comedy, including slapstick, well, and there were a number of bits in the first two seasons that were laugh out loud funny for me. I started to get bored with it when they seemed to give up on comedy in favor of cancer, dead parents, etc.
  23. The longer Evgenia lasts at the top, the more she grows on me, tendency to mime her way through programs and all. Zagi, I'm not sure if she really is All That in a cosmic sense or she's just a girl in that golden year between her last growth spurt and Getting Hips and after this, it's all down hill.
  24. I suspect that requirements that the OAR kit not look 'too national' were what left the Russians looking like they were headed out to a mall in a Siberian winter.
  25. If you do a google search for figure skater Matteo Guarise it's best not to be searching from a work computer...
