  1. Haven't caught up on this thread so don't know what the general feeling on here is... but I really really enjoyed it. Although I loved the first Captain Marvel, so maybe I'm just a Captain Marvel stan like Kamala.

Kamala is hands down my favorite character in the MCU right now.

    Spoiler

Did not realize her family would be featured as much as they were, but I love them so much!

Kinda reminded me of the first couple of movies in the MCU in a way.

P.S.: I wish movies just included subtitles as standard these days. Sometimes the background stuff drowns out the actual dialogue, and I couldn't hear what characters were saying.

Unfortunately, the theater I was in didn't have the best audio so a lot of the dialog was muddy while the explosions were absurdly loud. But that gives me something to look forward to on a rewatch. And I'm glad I saw it in the theater. Some of the set pieces are incredible and there is so much detail all over the place. It was a treat for the eyes, that's for sure.

^^^ Same. Could not hear the dialogue over the background. I was wishing for subtitles the whole time.

Which brings me to M'Baku. Winston Duke is an absolute gem and I find it really smart to have him challenge (and, I assume, win) the throne at the end. He demonstrated solid leadership in this movie and having Shuri focus on being a tech genius and Black Panther while he leads Wakanda should be fun going forward.

This is what I thought as well. But others with me, thought it was a joke on his part.

Otherwise, it was great. Didn't know what to expect with Chadwick's death, but they made a fantastic movie while remembering him.

The ending was like 1973 movie Walking Tall:  it just wouldn’t end. Every time I thought we got to a natural conclusion in that final hour, something else would happen.  Aside from that, I really loved this movie, and I’d pay to see more of this Batman.

I liked “The Batman” well enough- and there was even a point where I thought it was shaping up to be the best Batman film thus far.  However, I think the ending was a little overdrawn.  I don’t know about the copycat Riddlers- they kind of dragged out the climax, and Bruce and Salina’s bike ride out of town felt redundant after their spoken goodbye.  And really- I don’t know if it’s just that it came at the end of a longish film, but I kinda just rolled my eyes at the Joker sequel setup.

My more general but smaller nitpick was that the movie was both well written and not: really solid plotting and mystery solving, but dialogue was often clunky.

Gotta agree it was good, until it went on too long. There were multiple times I was like, ok that's the end, oh nevermind there's more, ok now it's done, nevermind there's more.

The more times it happened the more the people in my theatre were audibly sighing. It was pretty late on a Tuesday but still.

Also someone upthread talked about The Riddler and the performance of Paul Dano and agree with that too, he was definitely giving me internet troll vibes. I also just found everything he did and said hilarious, but no one else did. Every time he spoke I had to contain my giggles.

I really liked the shot of Batman coming into the first crime scene with all the cops giving him side eye.

Also does anyone know what the riddle Joker told Riddler in jail was? I couldn't understand half the dialogue in that scene.

There was a guy in our showing that was really really not into it, he was on snapchat multiple times during the movie, and checking the time constantly.

  4. Just watched "Turning Red" and loved loved it. This movie was hitting all the nostalgia feels for me. I am born and raised in Toronto so I loved seeing all the background stuff, like the Daisy Mart!

I had a Tamagotchi and was obsessed with Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls, just never bothered to ask if I could go to a concert cause the answer would definitely be no.

The soundtrack was great too, I can actually see these songs being popular back in 2002 for a boyband.

Also it will be forever known as the SkyDome!  Rogers Centre wishes.

Well crap, I missed an episode. No wonder I was so confused. Any recommendations of how someone in Canada can see  episode one?
anyway, do not like Super Smart Barry. I do not want to watch something that makes me wants to reach into the TV and slap the heck outta someone.

Netflix is where I watch the episodes. Usually up a day after it airs in the USA.

So in the real world this takes place after the undoing of the Snap. Darcy must have been part of SWORD before that (and presumably didn't get blipped) since she recognized both Vision and Wanda on their 'sitcom'. Though didn't the doctor tell Monica that it had been three years, not five? It's a minor thing, but it stood out to me.

I thought the doctor said Maria had died 3 years ago, after 2 years of Monica getting blipped/missing.

I liked Agent Woo, I thought he was funny and his jokes with Darcy were funny. Agree @Jediknight Randall Park and Kat Dennings have great chemistry.

I gasped when we see dead Vision, was not expecting that at all.

I’m curious- if you could have picked another historical romance series to adapt, which would you choose? I feel like a couple of Lisa Kleypas series would work (the wallflowers or the Hathaways). The Spindle Cove series by Tessa Dare would also be a cute one. I’m not a huge fan of Julia Quinn but I hope this does well so we might get some future romance adaptations.

Agree with both of your picks - but especially Tessa Dare. Her books have a funny streak going through them, which I love. I would go for her Girl Meets Duke series over Spindle Cove.

My other picks would be any of Sarah MacLean's books, any of Courtney Milan's books, and Eloisa James' The Wildes of Lindow Castle series.

  8. Was going to try watching one episode a day but ended up finishing it all today! It's fantastic, I loved all the nods to the books with all the new updates.

I was going to quote posts above, but realized it would be like literally every single post above mine. Please let there be a season 2.

Coming up to four months in quarantine, and I have times when it seems like nothing I'm trying to watch is interesting and I have no attention span longer than 5 minutes and have no interest to pick up a book, so thankful this came out now and pulled me out of my funk.

  9. So glad I went in unspoiled. Gasped a few times, was not expecting it to go where it did at all.

Such a good movie with fantastic acting from everyone.

On a shallow note, the set design of the Park home was beautiful.

I would be interested in finding out more about the housekeeper, and what happened after she was fired, so the show sounds interesting.

There was a lot more #WestAllen in this episode - but it felt like they shoved a LOT in and didn't allow it to breathe enough to have the emotional weight.  I felt like Iris' emotional chat with Ryan Choi had the most emotional punch... because it was allowed to breathe... the WestAllen scenes still felt rushed.  This is why I still believe not letting that build up properly on the actual Flash show was a HUGE mistake - because when I should have felt SO MUCH MORE with them, I was just feeling like their scenes were too rushed.  I did think that part where Barry realized they were vanishing and Iris wasn't and he reached for her and both he and Iris grasped air... that was really well done.

And Iris' look of absolute quiet despair to Superman as they were annihilated got me in my chest.

I just wanted to feel so much more with the Westallen scenes and I feel robbed because of how rushed they shot them.

Them reaching for each other got me 😭😭😭😭😭

Really sweet WestAllen scene. Although, they used a more emotional take in the promos - why'd they change it? Liked how they paralleled both Barrys thinking of their wives as they're going to die.

Barry being the Paragon of Love is fitting. He's guided by love. For better or worse. His love for Iris powers him up. I think that the WestAllen moments were good and I always love their chemistry but I agree that the promo had a more emotional take and that their scenes were a bit rushed and all compressed into one episode. This show has editing and direction issues which were for me apparent during the final group scene as well.

I loved Iris with Ryan and Barry giving her credit for her intelligence and compassion. But I really don't understand how we went from "I am going to die for sure" to "No matter how long it takes I promise you I'll run back to you". Except the other Flash is dead dead which is something that Barry acknowledged in his reunion scene with Iris. Was he just trying to make her feel better by lying about coming back to her? I am going to go with "the writers are so sloppy that they forget what happens from one scene to the next". But I loved that Iris was always in Barry's thoughts and was his priority and the one he always mentioned even when she wasn't with him.

#WestAllen forever! Seriously, Candice and Grant's acting is the only reason that there is any emotion in the rushed dialogue and scenes between them. They always bring it. I am always imagining better scenes for them then we ever actually get. Heck, you guys have better idea's here, about upping the emotional stakes and better storytelling.

Also 100% agree with your posts @phoenics in regards to Crisis; it has nothing to do with any other show or character being the lead in this crossover. What is left for the big overarching storyline for The Flash now? When we're done with Crisis is the newspaper headline gone from the Vault?

Overall, still enjoying the crossover, just not thinking to hard about any of the science or plotholes.

Welcome back, The Flash!  I want to be optimistic, but it felt like the past few seasons always start out great, but then go off the rails midway, only to barely stick the landing at the end.  Maybe this will change, finally.

    That's the dream!

I really liked it, good WestAllen scenes plus nice Team Flash moments. Also I love Chester, he's so fun.

I want all of Jasmine’s hair accessories.

Aladdin is my favorite Disney animated film from the renaissance and Jasmine is my favorite Disney princess of time.

Um... yes to this whole part^^^. I was like to my cousin after the movie that I want Jasmine's hair accessories, and since I'm Indian, will try to get some outfits in the same colour combos Jasmine has. Just gorgeous!

Carpet building sandcastles in the desert cracked me up.

I laughed way to much at this part.

I thought it was a great movie, different enough yet for me it did have the magic of the original too.

  13. Another thing I love about the movie is the score. I just found the Vevo playlist on YouTube, it is brilliant. I usually don't notice the background music but it works really well in this movie.

The one titled, "Whatever it Takes," is ❤️❤️. As soon as I hear it it takes me back to the theater seeing Steve watching Peggy through the glass 😭 and Tony talking to his dad.

I also thought it was interesting that Wanda was with Bucky and Sam.

She should be really close to Sam now, since they were on the run together with Natasha and Steve after Civil War. And she wouldn't want to be too much in the front where Steve was or with Clint's family. Last time they saw each other, Wanda was in prison and Tony was part of the reason, so I'm sure she had conflicted feelings about Tony.

I think I'm going to go again this weekend.  I NEVER do that.

I wanted to see it in IMAX this weekend since I haven't seen it in that format yet, and all the good seats are gone again!

I finally managed a Wednesday afternoon screening next week. But ended up seeing it again today in a smaller cinema with regular screen and it was just as good. This is my third time watching it and it was great to see everyone's reactions to things I knew were coming up. I actually cried more than the other 2 times as well. I started welling up when we see Morgan for the first time, and Natasha being the leader of the team, as well as the major emotional moments.

There was a dad with his daughter a few rows ahead of me who had to console her at the end after she got a little emotional 😭 and a man that literally said "NO!" when he realized that Iron Man was dead dead.

Also this time I really noticed what a great job both RDJ and Chris Evans did.

  16. The movie definitely hit harder with me the second time I watched it. I was sobbing when the title card reads Voromir.

Scarlett Johansson is not my favorite actress but she was great in this movie the whole way through. Trying so hard to hold it together after they realize the stones are gone, finding out about what Clint was up to, and then the "it's ok, let me go." 😭😭

And as soon as they start passing off the gauntlet I was tearing up, and was ugly crying while trying to be quiet. Till the end with Steve and Peggy dancing, 😢🥰.

I get all the reasons it falls apart with time travel but for me the emotional payoffs were satisfying that I really don't care to much about the inconsistencies. Still love reading all your theories though!

@Spartan Girl, as soon as I saw Ross at the funeral I thought about the fact you would hate it!

  17. I loved it totally, heartbreak and everything. So many unexpected laughs, a few cries and all the nods to the last 10? years. I think this movie encapsulates what it means to say bittersweet.

"America's ass" killed everytime it came up.

So good to see so many faces from the past, present and possibly the future of the MCU.
