  1. I love Carla Hall - I agree, she would be wonderful on DWTS! She is one of my all-time favorite Top Chef contestants.
  2. So is this thread for random talk about anything we want, like the fact that tomorrow is April 3rd and we are supposed to get another freaking blizzard here in MN?
  3. We need a thread to post about the stars we'd like to see cast on upcoming seasons! I will be giving myself away as a child of the 80's with the few that popped into my head today. I'd love to see Dee Snider from Twisted Sister on this show. He's done other reality shows and I think he is a personable, charismatic man. I'd love to see him hit the ballroom and see what he could do! Another man that came to mind is Rick Springfield. According to Wikipedia he is now 65 years old - that doesn't seem possible. For women, I can't believe they have never had even one of the "girls" from The Facts of Life on this show yet. I'd love to see any of the four - Lisa Welchel, Nancy McKeon, Mindy Cohn, or Kim Fields. As tempting as it may be for TPTB, I would prefer they not take my suggestion of a woman from The Facts of Life to mean that I'd like them to bring in 88-year-old Charlotte Rae and partner her up with Tristan. But I'd love to see Mrs. Garrett in the audience cheering one of her girls on! Remember when Jamie Lee Curtis always used to be in the audience? Where did she go? Why haven't they ever convinced her to do the show, since she's obviously a big fan? And my last suggestion for now is someone who is not a star by a long shot, but that hasn't stopped TPTB from casting people before. I would love to see Ernestine Shepherd on the show. She is 77 or 78 and is the oldest competitive female bodybuilder out there right now. I have heard her say that she believes her calling/ministry (she's active in her church, which I can give or take) is to bring the idea of staying and/or getting fit and healthy to older women. She run/walks miles every day and teaches fitness classes, so I suspect she is an older person who would be able to do the physical stuff just fine, unlike some of the other seniors they've had on the show.
  4. Yes, it seems they were stuck with one or the other - either flexed all the time or pointed all the time. I know they are exploring modifications and options all the time as they are practicing. Maybe they'll come up with some ideas for a design for legs that have flexible feet. That's one thing that I think is really cool about her being on the show - aside from being a lovely dancer and a great inspiration, some new ideas and improvements with regard to prosthetics might come out of her doing this, and that could benefit countless others. I don't watch sports so I didn't know who she was before DWTS, and I am so happy they cast her so I am getting a chance to "know" her!
  5. Maybe I'm the sappiest sapper whoever sapped, or maybe it was because I was just in a really good mood yesterday, but I loved just about every minute of last night's show. I don't mind story week, although I feel like it isn't terribly compelling for the teenage mega-stars and I don't like it as much when the stories are all dramatic and down. I liked that there were a lot of upbeat dances this season for this theme. I also thought all of the dances were good, and some were great, especially for week 3. Amy: To continue the "I'm probably going straight to hell" theme, I get that her dance was dedicated to her dad, but by the end of the package I was wondering if perhaps her mom was out of the picture - I don't think she was mentioned once (apologies if I am mistaken). Then we find out that mom is there, and it is even her parents' anniversary. I wish she would have been aknowledged her in the package just a little, something like "both of my parents were great, but I especially want to thank my dad since he gave me the kidney." I suspect her mom would have given one had she been a match and dad had not, you know? I agree with the poster above who said the home video of her dancing with her dad on her new legs for the first time was pretty incredible. It's hard not to be moved by her story and in awe of what she has accomplished. I thought she did a great job, and I don't care that she wasn't on her feet that much for contemporary. I suspect you could choreograph a legit contemporary routine where the female partner's feet never touch the floor. Blech, I hate contemporary. Candace: I felt badly for her having to follow Charie's routine, which was so upbeat and big that it felt like a finale number - oh, but wait, we have one more star left to dance. I do think expectations were set really high for her after a great first week. She is good and has a lot of potential but she is going to have to work for this (and she obviously is). I thought the "DJ and Kimmie Gibbler are still best friends" line was adorable. I didn't think her costuming really fit the jive, so that was distracting to me. Charlie: I think that if you threw the essense of sunshine, puppies, and rainbows into a jug and shook them up, you'd pour out Charlie White. I loved, loved, loved the opening section of his number. I thought this was a fabulous routine, and I can't believe they didn't use this as the finale piece. It was one of my favorite routines of the night. Cody: I don't think Cody comes across as a snotty, Bieberish kid - he works hard, is respectful to the judges, and seems to be having fun. He has terrible taste in pants, but I'm a middle-aged woman so his job is to give me a reason to say "why on earth would someone wear that?" I don't know jazz to save my life, but I thought his routine was fun and energetic. Danica: I think Val is probably the best contemporary choreographer on the show, and Danica is a really good dancer, so this didn't disappoint. Except for the fact that it was contemporary. Drew: I have so much admiration for him recognizing that he wasn't happy with the way he was, and then actually doing something about it. I loved the little clip he did with Derek as his potential switch partner. James: I would never in a million years have believed those childhood pictures were him. Of all of the stories, his actually touched me the most - being bullied for being heavy as a kid/teen has got to be brutal. I thought he did a really good job on his jive - that hand-stand leap to the judges' table was amazing. I think Peta deserves some props for her choreography on that routine. And while i didn't like the little red bow on her forehead (I found it really distracting), I really do like her haircut. Meryl: This dance was unlike any foxtrot I have ever seen. Wow. I think Maks did a great job on the choreography and Meryl danced it perfectly. Meryl is usually ridiculously poised in her interview sections, so I think my favorite part was her nonstop giggling after their dance while they were showing the slow-mo replay of her SexyMeryl face. Nene: I thought Nene looked beautiful - her dress was absolutely perfect, and she really is a gorgeous woman. And shirtless Tony - wow, who knew? I thought she did a great job on this dance, and I hope Nene sticks around for a while because I think she has a lot of potential. I was really happy that Billy Dee left as he did. He obviously wasn't up to the physical demands of the show, and I'd rather see a star like him bow out than try to continue on. Good for the show for giving him a nice sendoff. I noticed tonight that the bumpers were really toned down compared to last season - yay! It was fun to see some actual snippets of fun, energetic dance rather than semi-porn routines.
  6. I read (I think it was in Derek's blog) that they knew they needed pointy toe feet for some of the dances or they won't look right, so they found prosthetics that swimmers use, since swimmers need their toes pointed. Maybe I am going to hell as well, because my first thought was "why would anyone wear prosthetics to swim?" I guess I don't know why they shouldn't use them if they are out there, it's not like she has a big advantage by using different artificial legs in a dance competetion where everyone else has actual toes that they can point. I liked that they didn't try to hide her legs. But I rolled my eyes at that bicycle move as well. I hate contemporary.
  7. I thought Nene looked absolutely gorgeous tonight - I loved her dress!
  8. I actually think Derek could do a great job with Nene - she can move and I think she has a lot of potential. It frustrates me that he almost always gets front-runners, because I think he is very talented and could take a star who starts at a lower level on an incredible imprevement arc.* I actually think it would be great for his image to get an older partner (like the ones Tristan/Jonathan would get) so he could be gallant and respectful to a legend for a season - I'm sure he has it in him, he just doesn't get those partners. I think those two partnerships (Derek/Nene and Peta/BillyDee) would be humerous only because I can't imagine TPTB ever pairing them up on purpose, that's all. The thought behind my comment was how the show just has their story lines and seems to know the roles that they want each of the pros to fill. Peta has been cast in the role of the sex-crazed showmance pro, and that role would be hard for her to play when her partner's bringing his grandkids up on the stage. That's all. * I consider this year one of the exceptions. Amy is an incredible dancer, but I don't think anyone could have known how she would do until she started, and I don't see how anyone could claim that a woman with 2 prosthetic legs is a ringer.
  9. I just realized that I am almost as excited about coming here to the new forums to post about the show as I am for the actual show!
  10. I had no interest in watching Survivor for years, but got roped into watching the first episode of the original Fans vs. Favorites season by my boss - and I have been hooked ever since. Now it is my main TV addiction, one of the few shows that I watch regularly. I think I enjoy the forums after each show as much as the show itself, so I am so happy that Previously TV has been so welcoming to all of us old TWoP refugees! I've been trying to make a clean break and just head over here now, to get used to the new layout, etc. It's been a far easier switch than I imagined it would be, and I'm grateful to the owners of this site for that. I posted on TWoP but not as often as a lot of the regulars; I posted a lot in my head but that really doesn't show up in the forum activity stats very well or generate a lot of conversation. So I'll try to be better about actually typing those thoughts out each week and being more active in the forums. I am loving this season so far! I actually don't mind returning players that much (although if I never see a Hantz again, it will be too soon), but it is fun to have a tribe full of new and interesting people. The casting department definitely gets a pat on the back from me this season. I hated Redemption Island the first two times but will admit that I thought it worked really well last season with the "loved ones" element. Still, I am happy for a more straight-forward season with all new players and no redemption island, and I love that I don't have any idea of where things are headed right now. It feels like it's anyone's game at this point.
  11. I will be one happy, snarky poster if that ends up happening! I actually would really like to see what Derek could do with Nene.
  12. I have always liked Maks and his fire/attitude, but I don't mind him being more subdued this season. Some of his comments about how lucky he was to get Meryl as a partner, plus his obvious attempts to be super respectful about the show every time he opens his mouth, make me think that he had maybe pushed things to where he was on thin ice with TPTB. This is all speculation on my part, but he seemed to be honestly surprised at the fact that they gave him a true contender this season, and it feels to me like he wants to show that he is not taking that for granted.
  13. I voted Kass, but now that I'm typing I am actually leaning towards Spencer, mainly due to his "this could be the final three" quote. I think it will be one of those two.
  14. JudyObscure, you made it - I'm so glad to see you here! I like her as well. I suspect she probably helped get Trish on their side as much as LJ did, but we didn't see it because Lindsay's "oh gross look at that old lady flirting with the hot young guy" viewpoint was what the editors chose to show.
  15. I didn't think about this even in the comfort of my own home where I'm not starved, sleep-deprived, and/or paranoid, so I'm feeling kind of dumb right now. Really good point. Yet another reason I would suck at Survivor!
  16. Agreed. Compare how she handled losing her closest ally to how Lindsay handled (or rather, didn't handle) losing Cliff. Instead of throwing in the towel and quitting or giving up, Morgan made a couple of very subtle plays and is suddenly sitting in a much better place. I think the Alexis/Jeremiah fracture was definitely started by her calm, quiet "Why did you change your mind, Jeremiah?" a few episodes ago. Good to see you here, KimberStormer!
  17. Hi, everyone, glad to see some familiar names! I'm not on Twitter so I haven't voted and am not following the switch-up on there - is there anywhere to see which pairings are getting the most votes?
