  1. That rumor about Lindsay Graham has been going around for YEARS.
  2. 3. 11/19: David Rees (promoting show “Going Deep with David Rees” on the Esquire Network)
  4. It just occurred to me to check Twitter and it was scheduled to be a live episode. This is from @joelmchale:
  5. Trevor Noah has cratered “The Daily Show”: He has no bite, no message — and has let Fox News off the hook Jon Stewart created a national treasure. Noah has dulled its knife, weakened the satire, let the powerful run free FFS, Noah has been on the air for just a few weeks. I think it's way too early to declare that political satire is dead because Trevor Noah is not Jon Stewart.
  6. Last night's show was supposed to be new, according to my DVR, but instead they showed a rerun from October. Wonder why? (My husband speculated it might have something to do with the attacks in Paris, but it's not like E! broadcasts actual news, and would showing a repeat really be considered less disrespectful?)
  7. I don't think he's trolling... or if he is, he's playing a long game, since according to the Washington Post, Joshua Feuerstein "has been at this for years, posting hundreds of videos of himself screaming mini-sermons into his Iphone camera... One of his more popular videos was from May 2014, garnering almost 2 million views for a nearly five-minute take down of evolution." BTW I think @Midnight ALSO made the exact same Paul Blart joke, so it's not just Colbert. (Someone on imgur at least threw Fred Durst into the mix!) I was catching up on Thursday's shows this morning, and after what happened in Paris yesterday, all of the Starbucks cup/Baby Hitler stuff seemed even dumber. It reminds me of all the "summer of the shark" stories that were all over the news right before 9/11. I think Monday's late night shows will have quite a different tone.
  8. Next week: Mo 11/16: Arden Myrin, Kevin Allison, Doug Benson Tu 11/17: Noel Wells, Derek Waters, Heather Anne Campbell We 11/18: Michael Shannon, Seth Rogen, Alice Wetterlund Th 11/19: Ron Funches, Emmy Blotnick, Johnny Pemberton The show will be off Thanksgiving week and return Nov. 30 with Brent Morin, Rick Glassman and a panelist TBA.
  9. Re-posting next week since there were a few changes... Monday, Nov. 16 Bill Maher; Medal of Honor Recipient Captain Florent Groberg; Author Shepard Fairey; performance by The Acro-Cats Tuesday, Nov. 17 Actress Julianne Moore; Burt Reynolds; musical performance by Public Image Ltd.; CeeLo Green sitting in with Jon Batiste and Stay Human Wednesday, Nov. 18 Actress Sharon Stone; Actor Justin Theroux; musical performance by James Taylor Thursday, Nov. 19 Jane Fonda; interview with and musical performance by Andrew Lloyd Webber Friday, Nov. 20 Actor Michael Caine; Larry Wilmore; musical performance by Boots; Vulfpeck sitting in with Jon Batiste and Stay Human
  10. I so wanted the Starbucks cup segment to be introduced with the "Blitzkrieg on Grinchitude" animation.
  11. Note a NEW guest for tonight's show: 11/11: Chris Hayes 11/12: Christine and the Queens (artist – promoting debut album “Christine and the Queens”) 11/16: David Holbrooke (director – promoting documentary “The Diplomat”) 11/17: Timbaland (music producer & author – promoting book “The Emperor of Sound: A Memoir”) 11/18: Ted Koppel (journalist & author – promoting book “Lights Out: A Cyberattack, A Nation Unprepared, Surviving the Aftermath”) 11/19: TBD Week of 11/23: DARK!
  12. As a business owner, one of the things that's emphasized is that you have to have an "elevator pitch" -- a 30-second explanation of what your company does. I'm sure this guy has given the explanation a million times and it's natural that he'd fall back on that standard scripted answer. It did seem kind of rude to cut him off like that! Move to California. My husband's boss wears cargo shorts and T-shirts year 'round. Bushfish was brilliant. Probably my 2nd fave Trevor Noah-era TDS piece, after the Trump/African dictator one. That's what I think he meant as well.
  13. Monday, Nov. 16 Bill Maher; Author Shepard Fairey; performance by The Acro-Cats Tuesday, Nov. 17 Actress Julianne Moore; Burt Reynolds; musical performance by Public Image Ltd.; CeeLo Green sitting in with Jon Batiste and Stay Human Wednesday, Nov. 18 Actress Sharon Stone; Actor Justin Theroux; musical performance by Boots Thursday, Nov. 19 Jane Fonda; interview with and musical performance by Andrew Lloyd Webber Friday, Nov. 20 Actor Michael Caine; Larry Wilmore; Vulfpeck sitting in with Jon Batiste and Stay Human
  14. I'm kind of surprised nobody has made a Janice From Accounting supercut yet (at least I couldn't find one on YouTube). That is my favorite running gag on LWT. I found this cool article that features an interview with Bilal Chatman when he was still in prison. Very glad he's out now -- he sounds like somebody who has truly turned his life around.
  15. Next week: Mo 11/9: Judah Friedlander, Jen Kirkman, Brendon Walsh Tu 11/10: Eugene Mirman, Phil Hanley, David Rees We 11/11: Hari Kondabolu, Jena Friedman, Open Mike Eagle Th 11/12: Diedrich Bader, Janet Varney, Guy Branum
  16. Not necessarily -- I was fine until the wee hours of the morning, was in surgery by noon. So it can come on pretty suddenly. It's a serious business and I'm glad Trevor got prompt medical attention. Maybe Jordan or Jessica will guest-host tomorrow night?
  17. 11/4: DARK (get well soon, Trevor!) 11/5: Regina King (actress – promoting show “The Leftovers”) 11/9: Pras (musician – promoting documentary “Sweet Micky For President” which he produced & stars in) 11/10: Dan Price (founder and CEO of Gravity Payments) 11/11: Paul Bettany (writer & director – promoting movie “Shelter”) 11/12: Christine and the Queens (artist – promoting debut album “Christine and the Queens”)
  18. I just got the upcoming-guest listings, and they still show a new ep for tomorrow. As someone who had an emergency appendectomy when I was about Trevor's age, I can't IMAGINE how he could be back at work tomorrow, but maybe he's stronger than I was!
  19. Monday, Nov. 9 Actor Ethan Hawke; Senator Claire McCaskill & Senator Amy Klobuchar; musical performance by Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats Tuesday, Nov. 10 Comedian Aziz Ansari; Shonda Rhimes; Actors Bruce Campbell & Lucy Lawless Wednesday, Nov. 11 Actress Viola Davis; Physicist Brian Greene; musical performance by George Ezra Thursday, Nov. 12 Actress Jennifer Connelly; Judd Apatow; musical performance by The Internet Friday, Nov. 13 Actor Mark Ruffalo; John Cleese; interview with and performance by Michael Flatley
  20. Jon Stewart Headed to HBO in Four-Year Deal The 'Daily Show' alum will create short-form digital content, which will be showcased on HBO Now, HBO Go and other platforms. The deal also includes a first-look option for other film and TV ventures.
  21. Wikipedia has an entry on "Democrat Party (epithet)" BTW here is the background behind Donald Trump's appearance as "persona non grata" in the opening credits.
  22. THE WORLD PREMIERE OF "TREVOR NOAH: LOST IN TRANSLATION" DEBUTS WITH LIMITED COMMERCIAL INTERRUPTION ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22 AT 10:00 P.M. ET/PT ON COMEDY CENTRAL® NEW YORK, November 2, 2015 - Trevor Noah, the new host of "The Daily Show," debuts his one-hour stand-up special, "Trevor Noah: Lost in Translation," on Sunday, November 22 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. The premiere will air with limited commercial interruption and an encore will immediately follow at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. Filmed at The Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C., "Trevor Noah: Lost in Translation" brings Noah's unique world-view and global analysis of American culture to the forefront.
  23. David Letterman was notoriously unfriendly to product placement. Fairly early in his run, I recall that he actually had a life size cardboard standee of himself and some staffer would do a purposely-terrible voiceover when he had to plug a product; finally I guess the network just quit trying. He did mention name brands, but it was usually in a humorous and often unflattering context. I think Colbert's willingness to cozy up to advertisers on the "Report" was one of the reasons CBS gave him the job. They knew he wasn't going to kick up a fuss like Dave. Incidentally, there was a gigantic "Halo 5" product placement on @Midnight last week, so Colbert wasn't even the first to give it a huge plug.
  24. Oh man, the Halo 5 segment with the trick or treaters was the first time since Stephen took over that I've really missed David Letterman. I used to love his annual Halloween costume bit. I was hoping Stephen would do something funny with the trick-or-treat concept, but... ugh.
  25. Who was the guy in the audience heckling Joel? He looked familiar, but he wasn't named at the end of the episode.
