  1. That quote from Chris Brooks is nice. Also, Danell from the WSJ article:

"Danell Levya, the individual all-around bronze medalist in London, says there is one reliable way they can be as popular as the U.S. women: winning.

America’s female gymnasts “should be popular—and even more popular,” he said. “It’s one of the few events in this country where women do get the amount of credit they deserve.”"

I've never really like Danell because he seems cocky and Yin drives me bonkers but I really appreciate him giving the women their props.

  2. The other thing about basketball is its super easy to stage. Most cities already have arenas and they are pretty multipurpose. My college had gymnastics, volleyball, ice hockey, and basketball all in the same arena, just with different floors laid down.

I went to 8 different schools all across the US and never once played field hockey in PE. I didn't even know that was still a thing.

  3. I hate volleyball. It was always the one sport in PE I abhorred. And then I saw the US men's indoor team today. Wow. Special shoutout to

Matt Anderson and Aaron Russell. Micah Christenson is also adorable, but more in a "I want to feed him tea and cookies: kind of way.

  4. I thought Nyle was really stompy and off-balance in the flicks he did between Peta's legs in the AT. He just seemed really unsure of himself there. It was smart of Peta to use the blindfold because if he pulled that off reasonably well (which I thought he did) no way it wasn't getting a 30.

Super sad to see Wanya go. He was my favorite all season- just so joyful and full of pizzazz. Was really looking forward to what he and Lindsay would do for a freestyle.

Paige was absolutely shocked that they made it through. I thought she, Mark, and Alan were adorable and dance the crap out of that samba.

    Ginger Zzzzzz...

  5. I thought Kim, Von, and Jodie were probably in the most danger tonight so it's no suprise but it still stings. We have to lose Von and keep yucky Antonio, ugh. If we had lost Wayna though, heads would roll.

I'm not Paige's biggest fan but that Jive looked HARD. That move where she and Mark just kept spinning around each other was amazing.

  6. I thought Doug and Jodie had by far the hardest dance assignments and both coped with it really well. Jai Ho could have been so much worse and Doug looked like he was having a lot of fun.

Ginger was kind of like the nicest girl who is a cheerleader doing "Nasty." Everything was very clean and well done but not nasty.

I hate anyone who starts to compare themselves to the pros but I thought Nyle was pretty obviously kidding with his comments. He was laughing throughout that segment.

Wayna and Lindsay are the best. Great to see Lance and Joey.

Alan was in approximately 87 dances tonight. I wonder how the pay works, does he get paid the same as Artem and Edyta who were in one each? (And really show, you couldn't have thrown a little more Artem in?)

  7. Did they really dump Alan? That would be weird, just because he was a pretty big part of the DWTS Live tour. I figured he was on pretty good terms with TPTB. (Maybe they're going for tall, dark, and brooding and decided he didn't fit the bill? He was always very happy and bubbly and maybe that's not what TPTB want to sell.) I don't know I'd be able to pick the new guys out of any previous dances.

I know, I like Alan. Dude danced as the Skipper, not once, but twice, with that big, fake belly. And it's nice to have a few dancers that are happy and cherry and not all mood and angst.

My favorite part of the GMA reveal was that everyone was introduced with "First Name, Last Name" ... Lara even mispronounced Chmerkovskiy pretty spectacularly but she copped out with "Mischa Barton and her partner, Artem". It made me laugh; everyone seems to be afraid of Chivintsev. Speaking of Mischa ... she looked super awkward about being there. (I hope the nerves go away, because for my sake I want to see Artem stick around.)

I caught that and it cracked me up. They attempted Sliwinska and Chmerkovsky but he was just "Artem." And Mischa has seemed very awkward and dry in all the media I have seen her do. If she doesn't have any hidden dance talent I wouldn't be surprised to see them go in Week 3, after (hopefully) Geraldo and Marla.

  8. Edyta was never my favorite dancer or cheorgrapher but I can say it makes me smile to see some of the old guard back.

Also, Peta may like her outfits super-skimpy but she's going to be in another ballgame competing with Edyta who never met 18 inches of fabric she couldn't turn in to a full dance outfit.

  9. Latest update from DWTSGossip (posted on twitter about an hour ago) is that Jenna will not be a full pro (potentially taking over for Allison) this season. This wouldn't bum me out all that much as I think her mugging threshold is quite high.

Oh thank god, I can barely take her in the troupe.

Also wonder if this reinforces their other piece of info from a few days ago about an early season pro returning. With no Jenna, you would have a vacancy to be filled by an Edyta, Kim, or Ashly...

Sources are saying it's Edyta. Which, if true...!!! I thought she and Alec had sworn off DWTS many years ago.
