  1. There have been plenty of non-US celebs on DWTS (Bindi Irwin,  Katherine Jenkins, Helio, Gilles, Christian de la Fuente, William Levy, half of the models) but I don't know all of their exact legal status.

I predict we will eventually see Simone or Gabby on DWTS but not this cycle due to the tour.  Maybe in the spring

Just to add some more perspective before I go to bed a pretty interesting article about a ride along with the homicide squad., http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/17/americas/rio-brazil-homicide-police/index.html

Apparently about 1% of the population of Rio is killed every year (60,000 murders/year with a pop of over 6 million).  And I'll leave it at that.

It's 60,000 murders for the entire country of Brazil (about 200 million people) not for the city of Rio. That would be a murder rate of 1,000/100,000. The current murder capital of the world (Caracas) has a murder rate of about 120/100,000.

  3. Not knowing where the other 3 swimmers are is scary. I mean, I don't believe Brazil is just going to hold them indefinitely,  they aren't North Korea, but still...

The Brazilian authorities seem to be going off two pieces of 'evidence' (which is weird to say in a case where the greatest crime is maybe a false police report) that make little sense to me. Not being able to find the taxi driver doesn't seem unusual in a huge city and it certainly wouldn't be unheard of for the driver to be in on it in case like this. As for the stories not lining up, witness/victim stories are notoriously unreliable especially when you're dealing with people who may be drunk/high.

  4. I don't understand why the Brazilian officials think not being able to find the taxi driver is damning evidence on Lochte- if you are to the point that you are intimidating cops, it's pretty easy to have a taxi driver or three on the payroll.

Personally I believe something did go down but all 4 of them were high/drunk as fuck which is why the stories seem not to be adding up. It would also explain why their reactions seem a little strange in the video.

  5. The 2 per country rule for AA started in 2004, before that it was 3. Event finals has always been 2 as far as I can remember.

ETA: Was it really do to Chinese dominance? They've never really been a huge factor in (women's) AA that I remember.  If anything I would think it would be due to Romanian dominance,  they swept in 2000 (no we're not talking about the asterisk).

Meanwhile, they also showed the podium finishers in the men's floor exercise and I have a random question.  Last time I watched any gymnastics the men mostly seemed to compete in longish lycra tights and singlets.  When did the old style flappy shorts come back into vogue?  Must say, I'm not really a fan.

The men still wear the stirrup pants for everything but floor and vault where they wear the shorts.

  7. I liked that he pointed that out but I hated the manner in which he did it: "Can you see any crossed feet, I DON'T THINK SO!" The manner in which he said it came across more as proving he was right than doing any real analysis or commentary.

Speaking of commentary, I've been holding off on having an opinion of Nastia cause she can barely get a word in edgewise sitting next to Tweedledee and Tweedledum but I decided tonight she doesn't add much. She generally just parrots what Tim says and even she she adds something it's like "You really want to minimize those deductions." Gee, in event finals, who'd have thunk? I don't know that I've ever heard her give analysis of why a move went right or wrong, why something is particularly difficult, etc. But I'm totally willing to give her another shot if they get her new partners. I seriously don't think I could stand watching another meet with Al.

I feel for Gabby.  I want to wrap her up in blankets and feed her chocolate.

I just saw on Lia Neal's Instagram that Aaron Piersol was in the stands, watching as Ryan Murphy broke his record. How cool. At trials, they said he'd asked for the phone numbers of the top backstrokers, because he expected his record to fall and wanted to call and congratulate the swimmer who did it. He's so gracious and awesome.

    That's classy as all hell.

That Lezak swim is still my favorite Olympic swim ever.

Nice to see the USA men's medley with the 'Thank you, Rio!' banner after the medal ceremony. Always good to let your hosts know when you've had a wonderful time in their house.

I remember them doing that in London too.  I agree,  it is a nice touch.  And Adrian didn't look so big back then cause he had actual giant Matt Grevers beside him.
