Sarah Hyland posted this on her Twitter which confirms what many speculated about here, that she had some medical issues this year that definitely affected her physical appearance. She says that she is on prednisone which explains the puffy face she had in several episodes late in the season. It seemed like near the very end of the season she looked more like she normally does so hopefully the medication is working for her.  I feel really bad for her but admire her willingness to talk about this rather private matter.

  2. I don't think there's any danger of Beck or Kyle leaving, but these pictures of Sasheer being carried by the cast (along with Bobby and Vanessa) are a little more telling. Not sure why they would have given her the same special treatment unless she's thinking of leaving too.

When you think about it, Vanessa and Bobby are long-running cast members and thus Sasheer probably wouldn't get the same treatment as them if this is her last episode. She'd be like Abby Elliot, just gone next season without any real explanation.

  3. I'm not sure if she's still there, but for the majority of this week Miley Cyrus has been "popping up" on various NBC shows promoting her new single. If she's still in NY, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw her making an appearance so Vanessa could do Miley one last time. This was the first big thing she ever did on the show (her second episode IIRC) so it would be a nice coming full circle thing.

  4. This show has some legitimately very funny jokes. "Josh Duggar and Jared Fogel's new reality show 'Property Pervs'" and the joke about how all of Carol's friends helped pick Curly Sue as the winner of The Voice made me LOL. Really glad this show got picked up for a second season; hope they pair it with "Superstore" or "The Good Place" on Thursday nights next season.

Modern Family’ Renewal Update: ABC & 20th Reach Partial Agreement, Cast Talks Underway, No Contingency Plan In Play

    http://deadline.com/2017/03/modern-family-renewal-season-9-abc-20th-tv-agreement-1202036105/

I know this article is from a while back, but is there anyone else who would be totally fine if this show DIDN'T come back next year? I feel like it's run its course. With the graduation of Luke and Manny from high school, all the kids will officially now be too old for the show to really incorporate all the family like it used to. They already had a hard time finding stuff for Alex to do this season considering she was supposed to be away at college most of the time.

It's strange that ABC is considering spinoffs of "The Goldbergs" and "Black-ish" and not Modern Family though. Although I guess there's not really a spinoff that would be all that interesting. The only character I can think of that would really work as a spinoff would be Haley; I guess if it was a show that focused on her working in the fashion world that might work. That sounds kind of like something that should air on Freeform rather than ABC though.

Edit: Guess the network disagreed, because the show was just renewed for 2 more seasons

So is Natalie Morales in every low-rated mid-season show that's doomed to be cancelled? First she was in Powerless, then Imaginary Mary and now she's on Making History. Will she ever be in a show that lasts more than one season? I still miss The Middleman.

They introduced her as a character in the last episode of Pete Holmes's show "Crashing", so...maybe?

I am not sure if this is a funny show or not because I cannot get past how much Briga Heelan looks and sounds like Ashley Williams.  I know that that is shallow, but that's the way that it is.

To me it seems like someone spliced Amy Adams and Tina Fey's DNA. She has picked up a lot of Tina's mannerisms from 30 Rock and that combined with the 30 Rock-like score makes this show seem much more like 30 Rock than Kimmy Schmidt even does.

It's not bad though; Fey has a way of layering her shows with so many jokes that even if they're not all great there's just so many of them you find yourself still enjoying the show. It's always better to be overwhelmed with comedy than underwhelmed.

  8. I didn't really understand the ending. Did the parents end up giving Mickey the money? And then it was all inside the house when it was burning up at the end? So presumably the next season will be about Mickey and the kids having to adjust to not being rich anymore? It did seem like they crammed an awful lot of plot into this last episode which maybe could have been spread out more across the season.

That scene with the Jello was hilariously disturbing

It kind of reminded me of the bit from Forte's movie "The Brothers Solomon" where he and Will Arnett were practicing how to change diapers by using diapers filled with dead birds and popcorn.

Also, just discovered the boy who plays Chip was in a couple episodes of Preacher on AMC.

He was also in the family-oriented film "Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life", which came out last year. In fact, his costar in that movie was the same kid who played the object of his bromance in the previous week's episode. "The Mick" is kind of a 360, subject matter-wise, from their roles in that movie, haha.

  11. Like Ellie Kemper and a few of the others, I was trying to think of something old woman-related for the Little Red Riding Hood question. "Denture cream" and "mothballs" were sort of close, I was thinking of like "Vick's Vapo-Rub" or something.

Sorry if when thinking about an old lady I don't think about her vagina first, heh, guess I'M the crazy one.

How the hell was scream not the answer for everyone on the rollercoaster question? How? It's something you do during sex and on rollercoaster. Come on.

This is a battle between "accurate" (scream) and "funny" (vomit). I said throw up too, because I usually try to think of funny answers if possible.

"Rocket" was a good answer for the final question actually; you don't have to be a rocket scientist to write these questions but you do have to massage my rocket. My mind thought "schweddy balls", haha, as an SNL fan, but I knew no one would say that.

He has booked a pilot...I think we were talking about it in the Cast Discussion thread.   And I agree. For him to leave on this episode would be sad.

I missed this, but I guess Jacob gave a little shoutout to his "best friend Seth".  Aww.   (I honestly thought they had retired this character.)

He also referenced his relatives "John" (Solomon), "Marika" (Sawyer), and "Zach" (Kanin), all of whom were credited as writers on this episode. Also an "Uncle Simon", which could be a reference to Simon Rich maybe?

I can't help feeling they did this Jacob piece just in case this ends up being Vanessa's final episode (the last time she did Jacob was 2 years ago).

  14. The thing is, "candlestick" is the only answer I can think of to that Clue question that makes sense and is funny. Why they threw in "kitchen" in there to make it confusing is anyone's guess.

Edit : There is also "lead pipe" I guess, which...ouch.

I was also struggled for an answer in the old fraternity brothers question. I said "Tylenol." That was bad. I think Ensure was the best answer.

I said "Metamucil", which....I think is the same thing as Ensure, maybe? I don't know what Ensure does, to be honest with you.

It still bugs me when one contestant gets a question where there's really only one obvious answer ("instead of telling kids not to play with matches, he's telling them not to play with blank")

My mind didn't really go to "themselves" for this, especially since (as Ana pointed out) that would actually be a good way of PREVENTING STDs, unwanted pregnancies, etc. As shameful as it is, "penises" was the first thing I thought of (so I guess I would have matched with Tyson).

Ana always shines and seems very intelligent

She was the only one who did what I thought the majority of the panel would do, which was get in a dig at Trump with the Satan question (Her answer was "Presidential nominee"). I guess "politician" is a non-partisan way of getting that across though.

Did anyone else notice Alex getting up and creeping out before the end of the eyelashes-courtroom sketch?  Interesting detail. I assume it was by design since he seemed to still be in character.  Though I did wonder at the time.

Haha, yeah, given the fact that he had kind of a sneaky look on his face and looked like he was taking advantage of the hubbub in the courtroom to make a quick escape, I have to assume it was an intentional joke and not a Jon Rudnitsky-esque mistake :)

I think we're bordering on Alec being played out. Both of his sketches were the worst of the episode. They could have easily gotten the message of the cold open across without Alec, and the O'Reilly factor bit felt like it was doing a disservice to the cast. I get why they didn't have Louis do that though. His subject matter toes the line on those types of things, that it would have been easy to strike back as hypocritical.

Having Alec play O'Reilly in the sketch kind of bordered on being hypocritical to begin with, considering he is not exactly a Boy Scout himself. Putting aside the time he called his own 10 year old daughter (or however old she was at the time) a "rude, thoughtless little pig", allegations came out this very week about him rather inappropriately hiring an underage actress once to do romantic scenes with in a movie, KNOWING she was underage when he did it, and then lying about it afterwards. While these are merely allegations, it maybe wasn't the best time for him to be throwing stones at O'Reilly and being all winky-winky about sleazy older men hitting on younger women.
