  1. Is Fox incapable of airing episodes in the order that they're supposed to be aired? They do this all the time; they've done it with The Orville and now with this. This was a Halloween-themed episode so it didn't even make sense to air it this week (It was the fourth episode produced, for those that are interested).

Also, I'm assuming feature players get paid less than the main cast? I can kind of understand Lorne and the producers wanting people to really prove themselves as valuable to the show before giving them a raise.

This is true, but Mikey Day's been writing for the show for a while now and it usually seems like he and Streeter Seidell are reponsible for half or more of the content in the show. I think he's already proven his worth to the show.

Classic Gamby clearly letting his jealously over Snodgrass moving on make him even more petty, vindictive, and sexist.  He really can be a child most of the time.

His serious-faced explanation to her of why he broke up with her was hilarious. Really no one plays "crass buffoon" better than McBride does.

Yes! Exactly what I was thinking as I was watching. It makes me wonder if the writers are just dipping into previous material.

Not only this, but the Sklar brothers have also done a routine in their act about these Pizza Hut commercials where they "surprise" people (which....aren't new? Unless they've restarted this campaign again. It's an idea that's at least 10 years old).

  5. I'm trying to think of an un-crass way to put this, but I hope Blake Griffin...uhhh...takes precautions if he's indeed hooking up with Kendall, lest he destroy her modeling career.
(OK, I guess there have been VS models that have been pregnant and returned to modeling, but still...no.)

I agree that this is a great sign going into the main ceremony on Sunday. I'm fully expecting (and hoping for) an SNL sweep.

They really don't have much competition in the Variety Sketch category; I like "Documentary Now!" but there's no way that's going to win. The only thing I could maybe see beating it would be "Billy on the Street", but given the wins it's received so far I'm sure SNL will win for Variety Sketch series.

Writing in a variety series is a little bit more of a toss-up; John Oliver and Samantha Bee's shows are both pretty critically well-acclaimed. (I'm sure one or the other will win for Variety Talk series).

I didn't watch "Raising Hope", but I do watch "Westworld", so it was nice to see Shannon Woodward show up. I liked her relationship with Tommy and that it ended happily for them. I also loved the song HoneyHoney sang during their fight. Nice to see the Doctor starting to move on from his marriage. I kind of suspected that his wife was more to blame for the breakup when she brought a date to the weekend visit.

Also, based on the cast and description,  it sounds like we will be getting the missing "Story 5" next week.

Yes, and they seem to have retroactively gone back and re-edited this episode so that Jenna Fischer was able to appear in this episode setting up the next one. Sneaky!

I just realized that's who she is.

Kimberly and Andrew. It looked like she was giving him her phone number at the end there.

I feel like there was some plot stuff regarding these two characters that was missed due to them skipping Episode 5. As far as I can tell, there is no air date scheduled for Episode 5! You can't even see it on demand. I wonder why they skipped it.

I'm told this is the schedule for the Fall's episodes--

    September 30th (Premiere)
    October 7
    October 14

    November 4
    November 11
    November 18

    December 2
    December 9
    December 16

-- What interests me is that there are usually 10 episodes  in the fall, so if they still do 21 eps the season, there will be 12 in the back half in the spring. Since February is out due to the Olympics, I'm guessing three each for January, March, April, and May?  That will be better that than last couple of years.

The last time the Winter Olympics occurred (in 2014) , they did have one episode in February. So there probably will be three episodes each in 3 of those other 4 months and then one month where there's only 2 episodes I bet.

Since we already know the season premiere is Ryan Gosling/Jay-Z, I'm going to guess the second episode might be Gal Gadot/Arcade Fire. The October 14th episode (which will be the Halloween episode)- I think it's likely the MG might be Miley Cyrus, since she's been a MG every 2 years for the last 6 years (2011, 2013, 2015) and hosted twice. I hope she doesn't host/MG again, but Lorne really seems to like her (she appeared on the 40th anniversary show too).

"I want to encourage all good, sane Americans to treat the rallies this weekend like the opening of a thoughtful movie with two female leads: don't show up."

Maybe some residual bitterness from "Sisters" not doing that well? (It did open up against Star Wars, so I'm not sure how they ever expected it would).

Now that they've run it, I think the answer is clear. Ouch. Even Albert (Shaving Cream guy) had an off night.

I didn't think it was that bad of an episode, Jack Black was a little gong-happy but most of the acts were fun. Though it was weird that the winner of this episode was a speed painter and so was the woman who won in the last episode. If they had shown them in the correct order this wouldn't have happened.

Really, the only way you could tell this was the first episode recorded was that Myers gave Albert a little more of an intro than he usually does.

Noticed something interesting about the production order of the episodes. The first episode that aired (the Will Arnett/Ken Jeong/Zach Galifianakis one) was not the first episode produced.  It is listed as episode 102. Episode 101 apparently had Will with Jack Black and Jennifer Aniston as the other two judges. Wonder why they wouldn't have led off with that one first.

There's no episode scheduled this week (because of a Princess Di special running on ABC on Thursday), but the good news is that next week it looks like this mysterious episode 101 will be airing on Monday night (with another episode scheduled on Thursday night as usual). So we get two episodes next week.

I am going to miss this show more than I anticipated I would.

It's a fun show in that all my favorite comedians have been on it pretty much and yet it's not a panel show where they have to seriously discuss topics. Too much of Comedy Central's late night slate lately is either Daily Show clones or panel discussion shows. Some of these have been all right (Nikki Glaser's show was OK) but most of them are unbearable (Moshe Kasher's show was pretty awful). But CC definitely seems like it's going in a more "We're the millennial news network!" direction lately, rather than having shows that are just light entertainment like @midnight.

  14. This seemed to be the least number of people gonged in an episode so far. Unless I'm forgetting somebody, they only gonged two acts? One of which they shouldn't have (the live-action Street Fighter guys, who were good). Guess these judges were just a nicer group, especially compared to Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross who were really tough on everybody.

Character step backward for me: Cassie, Cassie, Cassie. Why do they keep giving you the kind of Big Moment stage scenes that make me think you're about to sing "Rose's Turn" from "Gypsy"?

Ari Graynor always reminds me of a young Bette Midler, so it's funny you say this.

I might have bought the whole thing (and in one sudden moment) if they'd given me a creepy, seemingly out-of-character moment for Ralph; maybe show him taking a sledgehammer to the bar he spent months building,  laying waste to something he loves. Penance combined with violence, and a flash of something ugly and unbridled, waiting behind all that amiability.

    You're psychic!

  16. This was the first time I wildly disagreed with their choice of winner. I mean, the people who won were OK, but the Scottish guys were much more entertaining, and there were many other acts that would have even been better choices (the butts with faces, the yo-yo guy, the basketball unicycle guys, even the girl who limboed under fire). In fact this was probably the most talented actual group of performers in any episode so far, so no idea why they picked such a boring act as the winner.

  17. Yeah, going by the way the first two episodes went, I figured that the Hollywood Bug Guys would win because the first two winners were "novelty" acts like that that were audience pleasing and silly- Married with Bananas and the zombie ballerinas. I probably would have voted for the bug guys to win too. The guy that did win was talented but his act wasn't as funny.

Erlich's departure makes sense given the course of events for this season. There's only so many times you can kick someone down before they give up. Richard hasn't reached that point yet, but Erlich's ego may have gotten that point. He had stock in Pied Piper -- lost it, had Bighead -- lost him, had Bream & Hall -- ran off to chase behind Keenan and then he lost that, too. He's probably considered tech poison at this point.

I was really afraid for a second he was going to die in the fire, I'm glad they didn't do that.

  19. If you can, try to pause the show when Chuck is standing in front of the "board" of upcoming news topics- they're all funny, one was "Thomas Jefferson: Chinese? One Historian Says No" and another one was "Breakdown Proofraeder Fired" or something similar :)
