Moved from episode thread because I'm in a gossipy mood tonight!:)  I think one reason Sara wanted a break was that she wanted to move back to New York.  Madam Secretary films there, so I can see it making sense she would do that show while not wanting to return to Grey's.

She wanted more money than ABC wanted to give her. Shondaland used the whole break excuse so Sara could save face and potentially come back in the future.

Supergirl's the best show on the DCCW right now.

This is a YMMV sort of statement because of the 3 DCCW shows I watch, Supergirl is at the bottom of the list (I haven't watched Arrow since the beginning of Season 3).

Doing my catch up of this show rn and I'm annoyed but how bad the writing has gotten since they moved the show to the CW. I get that the CW may not have the same standards as CBS but surely the same writing team (essentially) should have a better idea of how to map put their episodes/seasons/characters by now, no?

This show appeals to my inner geek every week but now they've taken Helen of Troy to Themyscira?! I mean, how much more awesome can this show get?! (If the Amazons show up at some point, I may just burst into fanboy tears over this show).

  4. - Damien Darhk's theme song is Return of the Mack? I respect a man who knows his classics.

    - Mick is a potential vampire hunter because...of course he is lol. He's been preparing for it for so long and his almost giddy excitement for finally getting to hunt a vampire was hilarious.

    - Ray & Jax were good together. The little hangman riff had me chuckling.

    - Sara is the captain for a reason Rip, you smug sob. She gets the final say but she always involves them in what she's planning to do and doesn't leave them hanging. You could learn a lot from her.

  5. It bears repeating: I love this show!

    - Gumball shaking little Atom up and down like a baby with GI Joe doll? Hilarious!

    - Amaya & Sara in their 80s getup were gorgeous.

    - Mick handing the baby a cigar? Mick stealing candy? Hilarious x2!

    - The agents singing & dancing to "Singing in the Rain" with kid!Ray and Gumball nodding along? Fantastic!

    - It has to be Jax who left the note on the tree. He's always been a good lil bro to Sara so this would be something he would remember to do.

    - That shot of kid!Ray and Zari cycling away with the moon as their back drop? Freaking awesome!

    - Gumball going home with his mom? Even I felt a little alien goop in my eye.

I kind of wanted Lena to comment on the hole in the ceiling to Kara at the end of the episode, only to have Kara stammer something about Supergirl visiting Catco.

But honestly, I just assume the first thought about anything weird like that is Supergirl, especially since everyone at Catco knows that Supergirl frequently has visited Catco in the past.

But...why would Supergirl bust a hole in the roof when she could easily use a window since she's a frequent visitor? On top of that, they have a new boss....how is this not picked up by anyone especially the new boss who's pretty much going everywhere to learn about the company? It honestly bugged me from the minute it happened until the episode ended. This isn't like a small continuity error of a character having a jacket in one scene and then without it in the next, it's a massive hole that has probably stopped the elevator from working and created a nice big draft coming into Catco. How is no one bringing this up?!

(Sorry for the rant but it's such a big thing to completely overskip and it's gonna bug me for awhile lol. It's also probably happened before but tonight was the first time I've really noticed it).

  7. Before I say anything else, I have to get this off my chest: is no one going to ask why there's a massive hole from the elevator shaft to the roof of Catco?! No one at all?!

Okay back to more normal stuff:

    - Kara & Alex are back to being sisters who share things (and significant screen time) again and I loved it. They've always been the heart of the show and as long as they keep that status quo, I'll be a happy watcher.

    - Kara. you have super speed and laser beam eyes. Just knock out the bad lady out before she has a chance to wham you with her psychic smoke. No need for all the banter.

    - Alex & Maggie are gonna hit a serious bump in their relationship. The kids talk is always where TV drama comes in and they've already started dropping the anvils for it.

    - James has no idea who he's up against does he? He thinks he's dealing with Lena Luthor, Kara's friend, but that's a completely different side to the one that's Lena Luthor, CEO of a massive, global corporation.

    - I know the show is making Lena be dumb by still not knowing that Kara is Supergirl but they can't keep that up all season can they? She's her boss now who's going to be in the office every day. she's going to notice that Kara is conspicuously absent from work whenever Supergirl is flying around National City saving people...right?

    - Ruby purposefully put herself in harm's way just to prove her mom has super powers. Why do they make TV kids so aggravating?

    - Hi, Yael Grobglas! Nice to see you being evil on another show lol.

    - Band or DJ? DJ if I'm familiar with the DJ otherwise, a band.

  8. So clearly, the trick to getting the Steelers to win is for me to pick against them in the fantasy pool. Apart from the Browns game (which was a gimme), they've lost every time I've picked them for the win. Ben's throwing is still so streaky (which is worrying) but his receivers and Bell made him look good today.

  9. I need to know who put their hands on Michaela so I can have a few words with them.

Laurel is the new Wes to me. In the sense that she's beginning to annoy me with her constant badgering about one topic as much as Wes did.

Nate & Bonnie's mess wrt to the case was low. They didn't have to do that to that poor girl.

I didn't expect the body to be the former prisoner lady and was disappointed but not surprised that she went right back to drugs. Happens way too often in real life too.

  10. Let me just state again that I don't dislike Mon-El (I have a visceral hatred for certain TV characters but they aren't in this show). I do however, find him a waste of time and because I got so much of him last season and will get a whole lot of him again when he inevitably shows up in a few episodes, anything that relates to him immediately makes my eye twitch. He could be Kara's forever OTP but to act like her sister, the one person who's been with her through thick and thin, suddenly isn't worth more than a dude who showed up a year ago? Kara is an alien, not a child, and by relegating everyone else in her life for her boyfriend, the writers made her seem like every other teenager on every paint-by-numbers CW show (and I hate those!). Those of you who like the guy will undoubtedly disagree with me and I'm fine with that. I'm just not here to see another season of the Kara/Mon-El show because I signed up for the Kara Danvers show first and foremost.

    /rant.

As for this episode, the Alex/Maggie marriage is going way too fast; the lady at the end must be the big bad for this season due to the focus on her and her kid (I think it's her kid) and...are they setting up James/Lena? I could get on board with that if they do it right.

Kara might not be 13, but to our knowledge she probably really never had a real boyfriend before.

Poor James. Even fans don't think his relationship with Kara in season one was real.

  12. If this is a sign of things to come, the number of DC/CW shows I watch may go down by one more. The highlight was the Alex/J'onn scene, and as someone who still doesn't like how Mon-El became Kara's "most important person", seeing her go all dark/broody for him just makes me roll my eyes.

  13. I spent the longest time trying to figure out where I knew the husband from and then when they got surrounded by the cops my brain suddenly went "Bill!"

I'll stick around for a few more episodes before making a final judgement. There's some things that could be interesting in the long run in there.

  14. I was trying to be nice @ParadoxLost lol.

Honestly, I'd rank this near the bottom of all Marvel TV shows. Even AOS, which I barely watch, is more interesting than this. I felt no connection to the characters and I know Maximus is the bad guy but I wasn't shown anything substantial to make me side with the Royal family. The acting was all stiff/wooden, the dialogue felt stilted and the fight sequences may have well been lifted straight from the 90s Power Rangers TV show. My overall feelings when it ended were just how boring I found it and if I had seen the little Syfy icon at the bottom of it, it wouldn't have felt out of place because this felt like a badly put together Syfy show.

  15. - My limited knowledge of Italian ended up being useful for this episode lol.

    - Much better episode than a lot of last season.

    - Still uneasy with how they're handling the overall fallout of Alex beating up DeLuca but I pretty much accepted that that was what they were going to do.

    - Laughed out loud at Maggie comparing herself to Meredith with Richard.

    - Amelia has many faults but Owen going up to her and being like "Hey, all the women in my family hate you so you have to go to therapy", was incredibly dumb and rude.

  16. - Cicely Tyson is amazing, just amazing. That scene with just her and Viola hit me hard because it reminded me of my grandfather who I lost to Alzheimers a few years ago. Just gut-wrenching to watch but they both knocked it out of the park.

    - I'm surprised Connor didn't leave faster than Laurel considering how long he complained about getting away from Annalise.

    - Michaela is right to be worried about her GPA but at the same time, Annalise is trying to do right by them. At least she's using her anger to take advantage of Annalise's offer?

    - Laurel is spiralling isn't she? Living in Wes' apartment, using his things...I'm sure her father is behind her missing baby too.

    - What is Bonnie doing at the DA's office?

They had me fooled for a little bit but the crazy came through in the end. Welcome back Viola & company!

  17. Just finished watching this at 2am last night. Echo everyone's sentiments here that this was a well-written, well-acted show. Two things that I just wanted to mention:

    1) Chloe may be 6 years old but she can make a playlist for me whenever she wants.

    2) That scene where Jane realises who Perry is, grabs Maddy's arm which causes Maddy to figure it out and then convey that to Celeste, was the high point of all that tension that had been building up to it prior. Really well done by all involved.

  18. I just started watching this and I'm intrigued so far. I don't know if it's just me or not but Reese Witherspoon's character had me cracking up for most of the episode (pretty sure it was unintentional too).

Packers defense looked really good - Mike Daniels especially.  Although at times the Packers DBs were bailed out by drops by Seattle (Jimmy Graham - what has happened to him?  Used to be so sure-handed) and by their front 7 pressuring Wilson into some bad passes.  The 'hawks o-line was really back on their heels a lot.  But then so was the Packers o-line, especially in the first half..  I don't think FOX thought it would be this defensive battle when they made it the game of the week.

As a Packers fan, what I love about Rodgers is how pissed he looks when he throws an INT.  Never just shrugs it off like Favre did.  That drove me nuts.

As a semi-regular follower of the Seahawks, the GB defense was good but the Seattle O-line is carrying on with last season's form, which was horrific. Idk why the Seahawks are risking their franchise QB like this but he's one slightly slower step away from a bad injury, all because of the cones they call offensive linemen he has in front of him.

As for my Steelers, Ben was off especially with Bell but that's understandable considering it's Game 1. Our secondary still worries me a lot though. Like the look of TJ Watt, he's definitely playing with a chip on his shoulder.
