I see that Megyn Kelly is no fool. She's going to play both sides. By announcing that she'll also have a one hour 'Kelly File' airing on Friday, she'll have two days in which she and FOX network will be able to review remarks, comments and opinions about her Wednesday interview and act according to whether they're negative or encouraging towards the Duggar's. Once again, we the viewers will be subjected to their bias or political agendas. If FOX had any balls at all, they would have Megyn conduct the interview live, in New York or Los Angeles, away from the bible-thumping hometown area they live in. Put them in a neutral location physically. Conduct the interview then have the viewing audience be able to ask the real questions live via Twitter or Facebook that Megyn, FOX or the Duggar's have not hand-picked themselves.

I don't know how anyone can take this interview seriously. I think it's going to take more than a grain of salt to get through it. FOX is a conservative Republican network. The interview will be between three people. Megyn, Michelle and Jim Bob, no children. There's no doubt that every television network, every newspaper and online news agency all clamored and begged the Duggar's for this interview. The Duggar's are smart and know how to manipulate reporters and interviewers like Erica Hill. They knew they had to open up eventually in the public eye and how much safer than they get then a FOX interview that's pre-recorded? I completely disregard anything from this interview since it has been recorded in advance of airing. Megyn Kelly and the FOX network are setting themselves up for a violent backlash from viewers, both conservative and liberal, if they don't present this interview in an honest manner without any slanting in the favor of the Duggars. NBC has already said this morning on the news that TLC has a proposed spinoff starring one of the two girls. That spinoff also depends on this interview with Megyn Kelly. They're all in "save our ship" mode now and looking for some lifeboats.

It's been so difficult to sort out my feelings of this episode without going back and forth arguing with myself over it. Initially, I was shocked and disgusted and I thought that the writers definitely went too far with the rape violence depicted. But the violence of rape has frequently been shown in movies and on television for what it is, a premeditated act of violence. We have all commiserated with rape victims when they were women because it's more common and most of us can relate to it in some small way. But now, for the first time, we were able to get not only into the head of man being raped, but into the head of the rapist. Most of us have never thought of that, have we? To put ourselves into the mind of a man being brutalized sexually and physically in that way. People have said that Black Jack tortured and raped Jamie for no apparent reason but I clearly see a reason. Black Jack Randall was nearly orgasmic with the flogging of Jamie. That was difficult to watch. I think Black Jack has both the deepest love and the vilest hatred of Jamie because he can't be that man that Jamie is. He's deeply flawed and he knows that no matter how he tries to project from the outside, a ruthless British officer, he know he can't even come close to what Jamie is. Jamie is everything he admires. Handsome, sexual, strong, deeply dedicated to his causes and to Claire, stoic, a fierce warrior, a virile masculine man. Black Jack admires that and hates Jamie for it. He wants to destroy that in Jamie by using any methods he has against Jamie. Flogging Jamie wasn't enough, Jamie was too strong. So he shamed, emasculated, horrified, and caused intense pain against Jamie. Black Jack is a perverted, sadistic mess but we knew that, we just didn't know how much. A bunch of shaggy long-haired cattle pushing a door on top of Black Jack and killing him just wouldn't satisfy the thirst for his blood that the viewers have now. We want to see Black Jack Randall 'blood eagle' executed like in the Vikings as Jamie and Claire watch, or perhaps hot tar poured over his head and the tar set on fire while his hands and ankles are bound and he hangs from a tree. We want to see him suffer, scream and beg for mercy. I'm sure there's some really-really-really bad stuff in store for Black Jack Randall. *Blood Eagle the victim was cut from behind, the torturer digging his hands into the victim's torso and to the front, and seperating the ribs in such a way that they came out through his back, giving the illusion of wings, and thus a "bloody eagle". Yeah, now that's what I'm talkin' bout!

brilliant synopsis!

That was difficult to watch. I'm alright with a rape scene, it happens. I'm just so reviled by the way they dragged it on ad- nauseam, it became gratuitous after a while and wasn't really necessary to carry it to that extent. It was just too much for an audience to be accepting of. I can't see how Claire and Jaime could ever possibly work through marriage out after this. He'll only be reminded of his rape and torture every time they have sex and..... heaven forbid she happens to be wearing lavender oil. That's the sort of stuff that puts a person into a mental asylum or therapy for a lifetime. I do like how the clan came to accept and love Claire. Now the adventure begins once again, in France where Jamie Fraser will escape the slaughter and dominance of the Scots and the future of the Frasers since Claire is pregnant. It seems her wimpy British husband must have been shooting blanks. And yes, I'll be watching.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

I plan to go to Bloomingdale's in NY to pick up a few of these before Wednesday, just to be prepared. I have feeling I'm going to need them. -
This website is bogus. This is information about that site, not to be trusted. MegynKelly.us MegynKelly.us is not Megyn Kelly’s real website. Megyn’s real website can be found at http://www.dailykos....Michelle-Duggar I'm pretty sure that Megyn Kelly realizes what power she holds in her hands doing this interview. Depending on how it's received, TLC will certainly make a decision as to whether they'll pull the show or not. This interview will be a push-pull between liberals focused on their connection to groups that link homosexuality to pedophilia and LGBT people as a threat to children, and conservatives who cast the coverage as a left-wing media attack on family values. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that Megyn Kelly conducts this interview in an unbiased manner.

I tweeted the link to Megyn Kelly. I hope she knows that the questions listed there are the specific questions that people want to know, and I hope she uses some of them. -

I agree that Megyn Kelly doesn't shrink away from the more 'delicate' questions and hopefully her interview won't be just another pandering to the Duggar families list of acceptable questions. I am also a liberal and rarely watch Fox but I have admired her 'chutzpah' in the interviews I've seen. As long as it's not dumbass Erica Hill doing the interview, I feel better about it. I know why the Duggar's, since they are very clever, chose FOX network to open up to the public for the first time. I'm certain they chose FOX because of Fox's domination on the political right and American conservatives' distrust of other mainstream media outlets. Case in point is a graph which represents the media coverage of the Duggar's according to network. It's obvious that the FOX news coverage of the Duggar story was a mere blip on the radar. "20 Burning Questions Fox News' Megyn Kelly should ask Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar" http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/05/30/1389093/-20-Burning-Questions-Fox-News-Megyn-Kelly-should-ask-Jim-Bob-and-Michelle-Duggar I'm pretty sure that Megyn Kelly realizes what power she holds in her hands doing this interview. I think another commentator was right. There needs to be a separate thread to discuss this interview with Megyn Kelly. I hope she's not going to handle them with white kid gloves like Erica Hill from NBC did. I have high hopes for Megyn Kelly since she's a journalist, former attorney, and news pundit and political commentator on the Fox News Channel. Erica Hill is....um yeah, she's Erica Hill.

That is so funny and so relatable. I was raised strict Catholic, Catholic grammar school and the whole mess. Talk about a cult.... so anyway we had to say our confession at the most every two weeks. How many sins does a 7 year old kid have? so...anyway again, I still remember trying to come up with stuff to confess since we went as a whole class to the church and waited our turn to go into the confessional. I'd sit and think 'hmm I can tell him that I had 'bad thoughts' or that I called my sister a 'snot', and what else could I 'confess'? What else did I do that was so bad that if I was killed crossing the street to get to church and was run over by a car and killed that I would be sent directly to Hell? The bottom line here is that those 19 kids lived day and night with a cult that warped their minds. They were isolated through home schooling and basically had their minds molded into whatever Jim Bob wanted them to be. Oh by the way, I got over all that Catholic guilt and Hellfire and brimstone stuff long ago.

There's no doubt in my mind that Jim Bob and Michelle are a cult. They are no different than cults like the ones that Jim Jones, David Koresh or Charles Manson headed, They had that type of power. That's what a cult is and that's why cults are potentially dangerous to themselves and to others. There are characteristics of any cult leaders. It's clear to me that Jim Bob Duggar is a cult leader. Here's some of the hallmarks of a cult leader. You be the judge. He has a grandiose idea of who he is and what he can achieve. Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, or brilliance. Demands blind unquestioned obedience. Requires excessive admiration from followers and outsiders. Has a sense of entitlement - expecting to be treated special at all times. Is exploitative of others by asking for their money or that of relatives putting others at financial risk. Is arrogant and haughty in his behavior or attitude. Has an exaggerated sense of power (entitlement) that allows him to bend rules and break laws. Takes sexual advantage of members of his sect or cult. Sex is a requirement with adults and sub adults as part of a ritual or rite. Is hypersensitive to how he is seen or perceived by others. Publicly devalues others as being inferior, incapable, or not worthy. Makes members confess their sins or faults publicly subjecting them to ridicule or humiliation while revealing exploitable weaknesses of the penitent. Has ignored the needs of others, including: biological, physical, emotional, and financial needs. Is frequently boastful of accomplishments. Needs to be the center of attention and does things to distract others to insure that he or she is being noticed by arriving late, using exotic clothing, over dramatic speech, or by making theatrical entrances. Has insisted in always having the best of anything (house, car, jewelry, clothes) even when others are relegated to lesser facilities, amenities, or clothing. Doesn’t seem to listen well to needs of others, communication is usually one-way in the form of dictates. Haughtiness, grandiosity, and the need to be controlling is part of his personality. Behaves as though people are objects to be used, manipulated or exploited for personal gain. When criticized he tends to lash out not just with anger but with rage. Anyone who criticizes or questions him is called an “enemy.” Refers to non-members or non-believers in him as “the enemy.” Acts imperious at times, not wishing to know what others think or desire. Believes himself to be omnipotent. Has “magical” answers or solutions to problems. Is superficially charming. Habitually puts down others as inferior and only he is superior. Has a certain coldness or aloofness about him that makes others worry about who this person really is and or whether they really know him. Is deeply offended when there are perceived signs of boredom, being ignored or of being slighted. Treats others with contempt and arrogance. Is constantly assessing for those who are a threat or those who revere him. The word “I” dominates his conversations. He is oblivious to how often he references himself. Hates to be embarrassed or fail publicly - when he does he acts out with rage. Doesn’t seem to feel guilty for anything he has done wrong nor does he apologize for his actions. Believes he possesses the answers and solutions to world problems. Believes himself to be a deity or a chosen representative of a deity. Rigid, unbending, or insensitive describes how this person thinks. Tries to control others in what they do, read, view, or think. Has isolated members of his sect from contact with family or outside world. Monitors and or restricts contact with family or outsiders. Works the least but demands the most. Has stated that he is “destined for greatness” or that he will be “martyred.” Seems to be highly dependent of tribute and adoration and will often fish for compliments. Uses enforcers or sycophants to insure compliance from members or believers. Sees self as “unstoppable” perhaps has even said so. Conceals background or family which would disclose how plain or ordinary he is. Doesn’t think there is anything wrong with himself – in fact sees himself as perfection or “blessed.” Has taken away the freedom to leave, to travel, to pursue life, and liberty of followers. Has isolated the group physically (moved to a remote area) so as to not be observed. "You can take your children to church Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night, but if you’re blowing up at home, it will undermine your whole ministry." “I really never had an anger problem until we had started having children,” Jim Bob said. “I realized that when we started having these kids and I started blowing up in anger to correct them, it was building a wall between me and my children.” ~ Jim Bob Duggar ~

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
HumblePi replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
Last year in 2014, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar approached Erin Merryn after a scheduled appearance in Arkansas at a child abuse conference that they happened to be attending. "Erin’s Law'" requires that all public schools in each state that passes the law implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program. "Erin's Law" had already gone into effect in Arkansas in 2013. After the event the Duggar's came to her and said "Erin, I know it's late but is there any way you can come into our home and talk to our children about Erin's Law?" Erin was more than happy to go with them to their home, even at the late hour. Erin was happy because her law only goes into public schools and the one place she can't get her message to is in home-school and she felt it was a perfect opportunity to go into their home and then maybe they could help her get her message into the home-schooling community. Erin was on CNN, here's the video -

Wow Mrsjumbo, you have a whole lot of catching up to do. I suggest you either read these comments starting last Thursday or read more of the story online. The news broke on May 22nd. The girls were minors and their names have been withheld of course due to their ages. -

My take on this is that since it was 2014 and the older girls were already either married like Jill or about to be like Jessa that they wanted to bring the warnings and the messages that Erin carried to the younger children. I guess that Michelle and Jim Bob weren't comfortable speaking to their kids about siblings sexually molesting other siblings. I can understand why. I thought it was a definite indication since they requested her presence inside their own home, that they had some fears in the back of their minds that it wouldn't be impossible that other abuses could possibly occur within their home. -
Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

My husband came in to where I was watching TV and said "hey, your Duggar's are on the Dr. Drew show", he knows that I've been following this story. Dr. Drew and his 3 guests were all astounded by the allegations of sexual molestation. They showed a clip from 2013 when Josh appeared on an Evangelist television show. Josh talks about being away at a Christian ministry for months, and away from his parents. This is where he was sent, age 15, to deal with the sexual abuse. "And I never looked back". Dr. Drew was outraged at this video. Dr. Drew's concerns were all for the children. https://youtu.be/CRrllCon-pM?t=19m13s Erin Merryn spoke to Dr. Drew from a remote camera. Erin is an American writer and activist from Schaumburg, Illinois who advocates the prevention of child sexual abuse. Beginning in 2010, she launched a campaign to pass a law that would mandate a sexual abuse prevention curriculum in schools, called Erin's Law, and has since seen it successfully passed in several states. In 2014, she was invited by the Duggar's themselves to come to their home to speak to their children about sexual abuse. The Duggar's were attending a child abuse conference where she was speaking. She said went to the Duggar's home and there were 9 kids home, the little ones. The home was clean, the kids were the most well behaved and respectful kids she ever met. The children were very receptive to what she was saying, they were attentive and asked questions. All the children there happened to be all the younger children, the older girls weren't there, they had been sent away to a camp. Dr. Drew showed an old video of Joy covering up part of the screen of a television that three of the boys were watching. She was blocking their 'immodest dress' from their eyes. She said she was covering up what the boys shouldn't see because some of the women had 'low-cuts'. When asked why can't the boy see that? Joy thought for a while, then said "um...because it's bad". They also had a clip from a few years ago when they spoke with Jana. She said that when they're all walking past a girl that was immodestly dressed, they called out a code word 'Nike' at which point the boys had to lower their eyes and not look until they passed the girl. -

I think we all need to understand where all of this will lead. Other than the Duggar's losing their show, the community that supports them both local, political and internet fan base will never retreat from the Duggar's, conversely they will vehemently support them. I base this opinion solely on the outcome of the investigation into the claims against their mentor Bill Gothard regarding sexually harassment and molestation accusations. Thirty-four women, came forward claiming Bill Gothard molested them, one of the women was only 16 years old at the time. Bill Gothard resigned his post one week after the investigation commenced as he should have. A mere 3 months later, the investigation which was conducted by "outside legal counsel" concluded "no criminal activity was uncovered, but that Bill Gothard had acted in an "inappropriate manner" so "is not permitted to serve in any counseling, leadership, or Board role within the IBLP ministry". INAPPROPRIATE MANNER! Did Bil Gothard get preferential treatment? Of course he did. Was the so-called investigation slanted and influenced by an 'outside legal counsel' conducting the investigation? Of course it was. Should Bill Gothard have been sentenced to prison for life for molesting 34 women? We all know the answer to that. My point is that the Duggar's as Gothard did, have very influential and wealthy supporters. People that are politically connected and can pretty much get accomplished whatever it is they want to accomplish. They will not allow any witch hunting of the Duggar's. TLC is very aware of this and it's for this reason they are extremely reluctant to pull the show from their lineup. -

If TLC had really done the vetting properly (investigate (someone) thoroughly, especially in order to ensure that they are suitable for a job requiring secrecy, loyalty, or trustworthiness) they may not have gone forward with this reality show. If Jill and Derick or Jessa and Ben are even casually considered by TLC for their own shows that would mean the rest of the Duggar clan would most likely be watching it from their Mac laptops and not on the television set. They wouldn't be in it. I can't even imagine how Ben or Derick could possibly be interesting for more than 3 minutes much less a full hour. It would be like sitting watching mildew form on the basement floor, or waiting for mushrooms to release mold spores into the air. They're both duller than a pan of old dishwater and as smart as a bag of hammers. -

The single most important thing was taken from Josh, his ambition. He aspired to be an influential lobbyist and eventually politician, like his father. I think it's pretty safe to say that's all nothing more than a pipe dream now. I'm sure none of the Duggar's are going to go hungry since they still have money coming in regularly from the sales of their books. videos, DVD's and future revenues from Jess, Jill or Jana if there's ever a 'reality' show based on their adventures. -

Tonight on EXTRA, sources say that TLC is closer to axing the show. Hulu just announced it will no longer stream “19 Kids." The Duggars, who reportedly make $45K per episode, have launched their own campaign to “save our series,” encouraging fans to inundate sponsors who have jumped ship. Of course, the mega-family has built their empire on more than just the show. They also make money from book and DVD sales, as well as speaking engagements. Josh has remained in hiding since In Touch broke the news that he allegedly molested five girls when he was a teen. -
I don't know if it was something I imagined hearing or if I really heard it. It was the episode that Erica Hill did with the Duggars. I deleted it because it was totally barfable, Erica Hill alone is enough to make my stomach queasy. They were talking about Ben needing to learn how to change diapers and Anna made a comment something like 'traditionally the men take care of that end and the moms take care of the North end'. My question is, did anyone else hear Anna make that comment and if so, did she actually mean that the Duggar males have the job of changing the diapers while the mothers are responsible for the breast feeding of the baby?

Since Jim Bob has an estimated net worth of $3.5 million dollars, I think possibly has already created trust funds for each of the children. Hopefully that's true and when they all reach the age of 21 they can use it for education, their own family or maybe even breaking out of the cult environment. I know we'd all feel some vindication knowing that they'll all be broke, but that's not happening. The worse thing that could have happened to Jim Bob and Michelle is their 'fall from grace' to everyone who has supported them over the years.

"It's been such a joy to make the friendships with the crew that we have because we know the show may not go on forever and we realize that, that's really understood, but at the same time our friendships will be there for life and that's what's so great." Those are the words Michelle spoke at the very end of the episode 'Behind the Scenes'. I have watched this episode twice since it's one of the last ones kept on my DVR. The crew most definitely had a very strong bond and love for the Duggar's and they for the crew. I searched a couple of the crew online, the cameraman and the director, just to see if either of them have made any public comments regarding Josh, they haven't. I also wondered how much the director knew about the molestation. I can't believe he was totally clueless if the crew was there all the time filming. In that episode they showed how they all managed to arrange the traveling for the Duggars. They've all been to Central America, Thailand, China, Israel, London and France. I don't believe they've ever traveled to the 'dark continent', Africa. On most trips cousin Amy and grandma Duggar have tagged along. In El Salvador some of the girls even had armed body guards. We, yes we...have made all these trips possible and paid for them. We paid for them by watching and increasing TLC ratings. by using products the network sold and shopping at stores they advertised. People who can't afford to pay for a week's school lunch for their kids, have provided the Duggar kids with experiences our kids can only dream about. We were the enablers, we fed the beast. I think it's time to take stock of where our viewing priorities lie and be a lot more discerning when we choose to watch side-shows like the Duggars. Once the fog clears and the lights go out suddenly on a show due to a scandal such as this, we should take pause and wonder why in the world we ever allowed such a phenomena to bloom in the first place.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
HumblePi replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
On second thought, it might be somewhat enjoyable discovering how Ben is diagnosed with a condition called OSA, 'obstructive sleep apnea'. He mouth breathes when he's awake so I'm sure he snores, coughs and chokes in his sleep. His nose always sounds like he has cotton stuffed up his nostrils and needs some Dristan nasal spray. He always appears half asleep and half a beat behind any conversation. I compare him to the little kid on the viral video that just came back from the dentist and is still under the influence of anesthesia. (Is this real life?) Maybe there would be a 'ta-daaa' moment when they unveil the CPAP machine that will change his life. Yes, that might be enough to fill one entire "Waking up with Ben" episode. okay, that was 100% snark. I just can't imagine watching Ben or Derick for an entire hour trying to compose a few cohesive sentences and the 'humorous quips' they attempt to make.....I groan.
