That kid has so much more hair than Daryl and it looks combed and clean. I am looking forward to the Rick/michonne one. I hope they do right by them. I just do not understand the appeal of Darryl.

Yep. And early 70’s were just barely coming off the forced residential schools where they quite literally tried to beat the Navajo out of you. Marcy’s parents both went to Utah for school (not forced like old days) and luckily got to come back to their fully Navajo families. Marcy was born in 1971 and got to learn to speak Navajo. It was fading. They tried to stamp it out and there is a resurgence. Between Marcy and her youngest sibling, 13 years they didn’t speak Navajo. My next door neighbor pretended not to speak Navajo. She was ashamed of all things Navajo. She “understood” but didn’t speak Navajo and hated when they showed up at school twice a year with clothes for Navajo kids. You got a big clear garbage bag full of a big winter jacket, jeans underwear and necessities. She hated it because it was Walmart clothes. Lots of families needed it, she did not. Her dad and my dad worked together. Every day of her life she tried to be as white as possible.

I think when he left to go to fbi he tried to be as white as possible. If they’re going somewhere with this and having him re-ignite his tribal pursuits, that’s a journey for him. I don’t know that they’ve got the time to do that. AMC is another of those that gives these shows about 3 seasons unless they become cultural phenomenon. I think there were 2-3 hillerman movies made. With Adam beach as Jim chee and wes studi as Joe leaphorn. They were pretty good for a made for tv movie. This past weekend was Navajo nation fair in window rock and megadeath played. I don’t know how I feel about that. Boys I went to high school with were very heavy metal with a side of country. Ac/dc was a favorite.

I’m only halfway through the negan and Maggie one so I dunno if I can’t take unwashed darryl again.

I do think she’s a big reason why he stayed. I don’t think he didn’t not want to work for leaphorn but I do think he def did not want to work for fbi anymore. Obviously he was working for evil fbi guy but aside from that the fbi didn’t actually care about anything but the money in the robbery. No matter the murders that occurred as a result. He was disillusioned with the whole system. But a terrible terrible private investigator. Ha. And he got no game. Elvis shoulda snapped up manuelito he’d probly be alive today…or is he? Next season on dark winds, Elvis is found living on the rez.

Oooh I gotta watch this behind the scenes! I would agree with that. And I don’t know how all native cultures view murder, Zahn McClarnon himself is not Navajo, he just plays one on tv. I like that they respect his input. But a Navajo thing is to not say the name of the deceased, meaning when he got upset at dinner and accidently called jim chee “joe”. Throughout the show he Refered to “my son” never by name. You are pretty much only pronouns after you die. They also don’t keep things. Like making the belt buckle into a feather. Or the jacket that he buried. When you died you were supposed to set the hogan on fire and all your things go with you. (For obvious reasons that’s not practiced too much anymore) You aren’t supposed to be in a house where a person died. My friend Marcy got in trouble for coming to my house the night my mom died (although my mom didn’t die in our house, it was still a house of a deceased person) there were some anxious aunties that kept trying to get her to leave. And my mom had a sweater that Marcy kept for years when you weren’t supposed to keep personal items. But she’s a modern Navajo and she liked my mom just like Joe jrs girlfriend shouldn’t have kept the jacket.

True. Any murder is federal. Indigenous or white. If you steal something from a store they can arrest and charge you. If you were biligana they send you to white people court. If your cows/sheep/ livestock get out and are all over you pretty much can’t call anyone. Just hope they come home.

I’m doing a rewatch also before I start the new ones. I really only watched season 5 before. My disdain for Walton Goggins is so huge I couldn’t bring myself to watch before. I just cannot like the man and I’m not sure why. I like him in the goofier stuff he does like “righteous gemstones” so it’s been eye opening.

We had plenty of crimes on the rez that didn’t involve omnipotent blonde killers. My English teachers jeep was stolen from the high school. Pretty common knowledge around town you didn’t need a key to start it. He walked home all steaming mad and it was parked at his house. So they were polite. They only borrowed it. We think it was nutty (actual name Nathaniel Yazzie) or we made it on cops one time, dude set his coworker on fire. And they had to get a judge to sign the warrant in front of my house. The judge is the same English teacher whose jeep got stolen. He didn’t want his house shown so my bedroom window was on cops. I hope the writers strike doesn’t kill the show. I think Kiowa Gordon is growing his hair out so he can have a leap horn bun. It’s just in an awkward stage.

Not only do many serve, it’s a staple. In most high schools the asvab (military) test is optional. We all took it. Because generally college is not “expected”. And quite frankly every Navajo I’ve ever known are very freakin patriotic. They did mention the code talker guy and obviously very huge thanks to them. But holy shit yes, I’m always amazed at how patriotic they are considering how much has been done to them. The most recent election I read about them riding their horses to the polls because is isn’t easy for them to vote. They have P.O. Boxes and rural route addresses. But they saddled up and 97% voted.

They do say bepsi and go to the libarry and puppies are pubbies. I don’t see too many pointing with their lips. Like when they ask “which way did he go?” They point with their lips “ober derr” they have used “skoden”( “let’s go then”) on reservation dogs. Been waiting on both of those on this show.

Jim chee is a crappy investigator. Twice. TWICE he opened the damn motel door without looking. I ain’t smart but I look through the peephole. He knows captain super villain is at hospital doesn’t use a peephole

Am I crazy or was season one set in 1971? Because season 2 they’re watching the moon landing and while it was before my birth I know it took place in 1969 like there’s Historical records. I could be completely deranged thinking first season flashed me a 1971 sign. I do not speak Navajo but I have a smattering. Usually the bad words. When gramma lady was telling him the thin paper of the catalog was for toilet paper I caught “chaunt” which is Navajo for poop. My inner 12 year old giggled.

Sometimes it’s very politically incorrect to watch. Like when he’s doing an accent for whom ever but they were fairly forward thinking. It’s offensive but they weren’t trying to be offensive. They weren’t hiding that Charles Nelson Reilly was gay. They just worked around it. I guess I used to watch with my mom when I wasn’t in school. I don’t think I got many jokes. I always liked Brett and Fannie Flagg. Upon my rewatching I’ve picked up on things from Richard Dawson like he always had his mouth set in a certain way and it actually looks like it would be painful. I wonder if he had dental issues? People smoking is a hoot.

Oh! Nashville. I thought of your wife recently. Watching my “match game” and they had jack Klugman and of course Brett summers was a regular and his ex wife. They were kinda hilarious. I guess they got along somewhat after divorce because they had banter. Like she made fun of his shirt and he said you don’t get to be In charge of that anymore. I enjoyed it and was like “too bad there’s not a single human being on this planet whom I know who watches this” but you said she does.

That is it. I watched it because it was mama Walton. I really didn’t like Leah remini. Didn’t see her as model material. Didn’t recall halle Barry being in it. It was a spin off of whose the boss. Didn’t last long. And didn’t really see that as being in your wheel house. But at the time we only had the 3 major networks so you didn’t have a lot of choice

I REMEMBER THIS! was there an episode where they had to convince a preacher they were religious? And they turned a bar into a church. Made the saloon girls be the choir? Thought this was a figment of my imagination. If you also tell me you watched a show where Michael learned was the guardian for young up and coming models (one of whom was Leah remini) I will be completely freaked out that we are the same person inhabiting 2 bodies.

The only clear memory I have of the movie is him shouting “you shot my nose off”. Now the big question is, why in the Sam Hill did my mom take us to this movie?
