Ugh. Is this what an episode of The Goldbergs is like? My graduation class was 42.

This last episode looked like it was 2 different sitcoms. Was Mike even at the house? The problem is that enough people watch it that Fox can keep it on the air, but the aging process makes old plots impossible and new plots are not very good. I know Tim Allen is trying to defy the "men are dumb" in sticoms sterotype, but the whole blindfolded pinball was on the level of putting on a leather jacket and ski jumping over a shark. It's too bad they can't do like the "For Better or For Worse" comic strip and

This needs to be over next week.

Most of that speculation seems ambitious, but it's pretty likely Terry Silver could come back. I also think the budget can't support another big expansion of the cast. The good news is that I have faith in the show. Hilary Swank may not come back, but it looks like Ali will make some sort of appearance.

Highest body count still goes to Alie / Becca, which made all this crap necessary. I find that the plot dictates who is right or wrong because most decisions are ill-considered and arbitrary. What we know is that there are a few hundred human beings left and 5 planets to choose from. I can only assume a weird, unexpected problem will be found on each one. Also, I'm not holding out a lot of hope for Kane to remain on the show much longer. He's getting too old for this show where they're bringing in new teenage cast members. I will be here for every episode of it, too.

This is a little out there, but I think Demitri's style was more like Mr. Miyagi's than any other character. I would love to see him develop the almost effortless fighting style Miyagi had, even though it was mostly designed so Pat Morita didn't have to exert himself.

So I gather that Johnny skipped town Robby skipped town (separately). Miguel's situation is up in the air. Sam is now on team Miguel. Also, there are 3 "schools" at play. There's Johnny's Cobra Kai, which is essentially defunct. There's Cobra Kreese, where the dumbasses like Hawk are continuing to be abused. Then there's Miyagi-Do, which Amanda has forbidden Daniel from starting back up. I have to assume that, like Karate Kid 3, two dojos join forces. Like Johnny runs Miyagi-Do with Daniel. I know Sean Kanan has been itching to be on the show, but I'm more interested in seeing what happened to Terry Silver. Apparently, he became a millionaire by dumping toxic waste in Karate Kid 3. I'm rooting for him serving time and losing his fortune. It's funny that Kreese manipulated Johnny into losing Cobra Kai, but how is he going to maintain that place with angry parents, fewer students and his abusive personality? I joked about the possibility that the community bans Karate / Martial Arts after that school incident, a la Footloose.

You can't kill main characters, but you want to show off your cool-ass CGI lasers. The math reveals itself.

I lost a lot of respect for Daniel when he told Robbie that you use toggle bolts in wood. They're for drywall, dammit.

I'd hate to say it, but I'm really hoping that Kelsey Grammer only wants this to be a 1 season gig and his character will be defeated and humiliated by the end of the season so this Rosemary crap is over with.

I'm sure there's a huge book on wormhole physics. The book on what we actually proved about wormhole physics could fit on a postcard. We just found the first observed evidence of a black hole a few weeks ago. There's always going to be a little narrative magic about faster than light travel and the technology of spacecraft. If I have the choice between the time dilatation scene and 2 more minutes of Ed and Kelly dating, I'll take my chances with the black hole.

It was pretty hackey, but I kind of agreed with the podcast clip about finding people guilty for the sake of finding them guilty. Most of what happened to the baby was unintentional (except for Dr. Coverup) but there was some need to find a guilty party. However, this teenage sex cult murder mystery is getting hella stupid. This just seems like an unnecessary C plot at this point.

You didn't miss it. They didn't even bother to mention Kelly as temporal tuning fork that brought past Kelly to the Orville. That's the way Babylon 5 handled it. Sinclair basically said that certain things would happen over and over and he could only change so much, which is why he didn't let Garabadli go with him to B4. Here's an even better one. Kelly said she knew the plan would work last time because everything was the way it should be in the present before she left. So, does that mean her remembering and Finn going back in time were also part of the larger plan? Ultimately, Kelly was right. After a 7 year detour, everything worked.
-
Then there's "How did Kelly remember a future where her actions eliminated that future?" Also, was Ed using his divorce as an excuse for not getting a command? Apparently, without Kelly in his life he constantly fell short of getting a ship.

The whole time travel through memories thing was from La Jette, which was the source material for the 12 Monkeys movie. Check out the opening credits of it sometime. I wouldn't be surprised if 12 Monkeys was one of MacFarlane's inspirations. Actually, the Orville escaping from the ocean music was suspiciously reminiscent of the music in Star Trek 3 and 4. This reminds me a little of the plot hole in DS9's "The Visitor." In order to make it about Jake and Benjamin, the alternate timeline was one where the Dominion never came through the wormhole after Sisko's disappearance.
-
There was a lot of Dr. Who in this, not just the time travel, but the floating heads with weapons. Also, two guys on the surface of a frozen planet had me thinking of the Voyager Episode "Timeless" immediately. So, the lesson from this episode is never turn down Seth MacFarlane for a date. However, I think had Ed not been captain, the Orville would have already been destroyed during the episode "Pria."

The Orville is an homage to classic and TNG Trek, so I don't think comparing it to other shows and episodes is unfair. It's a compliment because shows like Star Trek Discovery have such threadbare and nonsensical plots that comparison is impossible. Most of the time when the Orville "does" a TNG episode, it equals or exceeds the source material. At the same time, it can add context to the episode itself and the overall vision of the series. There have also been times where different people used different episodes for their comparisons based on what they saw. Our entertainment is a cultural touchstone, which allows us to relate common themes. That reminds me of the TNG episode Darmok...

According to the Orville bible, (AKA Next Generation) captains can date senior officers. Picard dated the head of Stellar Cartography for an episode.

Hey, they said "quantum" about 10 times in the episode. That's enough for ST: Discovery to be considered science. Kelly has basically said that she would consider starting up again with Ed if they weren't first and second in command. Ed feels like they should start up regardless. This is kind of the definition of "it's complicated." Neither one is right, they just have opinions. I will say that Ed pursuing a relationship with past Kelly seems more like lazy writing. They needed a way to construct the story and it only works if Ed decides it's alright to date one Kelly under another Kelly's nose. Still, he broke up with her before things were very far.

If you want an AI that shuts down all the time, Andromeda is the show for you.

Spoiler from next episode's description

I really hope Fox is waiting for the finale or upfronts to announce the Orville's renewal for dramatic effect. Star Trek Discovery is renewed and honestly, it's trash. Seth MacFarlane created and maintained a scifi show that has story arcs, character development and science that makes sense (at least within the confines of their universe). The humor is like he said, icing on the cake. One of the funny parts of the show is when they talk about bathrooms because no one ever had to go on TOS.

Elaine Hendrix is on "Proven Innocent" until the show presumably gets cancelled.
-
I assume if it's important, senior staff needs to report. I think they at least changed during Next Generation, because Picard used to sleep in a skimpy nightgown.

Armed robbery at a liquor store. She got a 20 year sentence because the clerk was hurt.
