Julia should have taken the money Baz was offering her and gotten off the street for at least a night or two. Found an off-the-books job waiting tables (or even a legit one) till she met a guy to take care of her. She could have gotten by.  Even the guy with the heroin wasn't really pushing anything but pizza - she probably could have crashed at his place for at least a while.

Julia is really dumb. She couldn't even last 1 night. The least she could have done is showered and eaten at Baz's and then taken his money--and pressured him for more.

  2. I really like the actress who plays Renn otherwise I wouldn't be able to stand the character. What trash.

The FBI agent was annoying me until today. She was formidable, strong and sexy, standing up to Pope.

I continue to love the acting on this show.

    PHILIP

I was always surprised when people thought Philip actually missed Martha, like he enjoyed her as a domestic haven. To me it seems clearly the opposite. Martha disrupted his domestic haven and however much he valued her as a source, it’s a personal relief to him that she’s gone.

I don't think Philip missed Martha but there were times he went to her as a refuge (like a cheating man would escape to his mistress) when he was having a rough time at home with Elizabeth. I recall them coming home after one particular miserable night together and Philip, while they were still in the car, saying, "I'm going to Martha's tonight." He could kill two birds with one stone--further the developing of her as a source and escape the misery at home. Elizabeth, in her usual way, tried to look like she couldn't care less.

If his main goal was to communicate his status to his family, why couldn't he have called them, or texted them or sent them a private message?

He comes across as kind of entitled and spoiled.  He had a to share a train compartment with 12 others!  But the compartment was only meant for 3!  Oh the humanity!

Maks has always come across that way to me. I was so pleased when he, with his entitled attitude, stale choreo, and overhyped looks, retired from the show. Good to hear he is safe, though.

  5. This season was great and much more enjoyable, confident, and well-paced compared to last which felt very gimmicky and overwhelmed.

I've always found Tori interesting and exciting especially thanks to the actress playing her. Am glad she and Hawk got to show more maturity and growth.

Really looking forward to seeing Robby and Johnny having a real relationship.

  6. It's unfortunate Julianne is such a great dancer and choreographer but an intolerably shrill, vacuous judge/TV personality.

Kudos to Jenna and Jojo for evoking girl power, glitz and joy, sex appeal and friendship in their dances each week.

I'm sure I'm like the only one but I would have preferred an Olivia win. 😋

  7. What a great season!

I was initially very skeptical. I am used to high-concept shows like this disappointing me very soon. A few episodes in, I thought, I don't like anyone and this is same old, same old.

But I kept watching and am so glad I did. Sherry and Kerry are actually hilarious. And the convo between Love and Marienne was perfect and profound. It made me surprisingly root for Love but not in this absolute way. I like that nothing is really absolute when you watch a show with the most antihero of antihero-type characters.

  8. I found myself hoping for a shock elimination in Jojo and Jenna. I would love to see her gone only to clear the path for well deserving non-ringers like Jimmie...and even yes, Olivia. They keep growing or can make mistakes and improve on them. Even tho Jojo and Jenna always feel like a fun girls night out/slumber party, it's also redundant like I've seen her ceiling a few dances ago.

This was also my favorite dance from Suni. I had no clue anything was amiss from how well she performed. The paso really suits her strong and stoic demeanor and the styling was flattering and fabulous.

  9. I think whenever Tyra asks her dreaded, "How does this make you feel" question, she's attempting to recreate the sob story moments Most Memorable Year provided. Of course, there's no time to do it in those few seconds, Tyra talks through some of it, and they are randomly put on the spot so usually not able to convey much of value.

Not sure what the producers were thinking because not only is it usually of little value sob-story-wise but it also takes away precious judges commentary time.

  10. I think Daniella inspired the other pros with that routine and put a couple to shame with their tired routines. She made lemonade out of lemons with Nelly and is doing it again with Iman who has a lot more work ethic and athletic ability.

  11. My stomach is still in knots about these results. Both Mel C and Olivia are much more enjoyable than a couple others imo. I don't know who my faves are this season-- everyone is not bad--but these 2 couples are near my top.

Btw, if any of you have seen Olivia on Jada Pinkett's Red Table Talk months ago she was forthright about what happened and FFS I don't need my entertainers to be flawless human beings. Show business is notorious for the stars being nothing like you'd expect behind the scenes. She was born into immense privilege and was a  **kid** doing what they are used to doing: going along with their parents who say they know best for them. They're powerful and successful parents they look up to, bankrolling their whole lives, so as a kid I'm sure it'd be rare for most in this position to defy. She is legitimately popular with her own channel prior to the incident so she's definitely an entertainer and celeb in this new digital age.

LOL at the carpet vs parrot confusion, that amuses me for some reason. I do think the lifts were incredible, but the commentary afterward was starting to worry me about Daniela's self-esteem, she seemed quite bothered by the amazement that he could lift her from those positions. I truly believe those were difficult lifts and they were beautifully done, but I do hope someone took her aside afterward and reassured her about what they meant, because young girls in a profession like this are definitely vulnerable.

I really like seeing a basketball player advance in this competition, this usually isn't their forte. Football players excel, baseball players get by on fanbase sometimes, but basketball players are almost always too tall to be contenders. I like that he's overcoming the height issue and doing his best.

I watched all of Daniella's interviews with Nelly and she often had a similar look on her face when asked about how they were doing. She seems to think, rightly so, that she's new and doing her best to show what she's capable of but hasn't enjoyed any ringers yet.

I'm sure he thought the show was beneath him, but, good grief, it's a paycheck and it's one for her too.  I think he's a mess and I wish Sharna would see that.  His previous love interests have not turned out well.  I don't want to see her go down the same road.

I hope I am just projecting but I get such bad vibes from their dynamic. It seems like she is way more into him than he is into her. It seems like she is the convenient rebound he needs to "get even" with his ex moving on. It seems like Sharna sees him as such a "catch" and is willing to do anything, including make herself smaller to placate his fragile ego. I hope, if they continue as a couple, she never has to choose between focusing on her work on DwtS and paying attention to him.

  14. BAG's paso was terrible. Definitely should have been with a different partner to stand a better chance of being receptive to coaching.

I'm afraid there will be a push for husband vs. wife in the finals so it'll be Val vs. Jenna, which may be unfair for someone like Jimmie or Melora.

Matt was improving. Paso was his best so far. I feel like Kenya has already been on this show even tho she hasn't.

Suni could be perfect but she's incredibly boring.

Mel C looked good and gave great face this time BC her expressions suit villainy/the Maleficent mask.

  15. I love Melora. I wish she could win but she won't. She deserves and needs those scores because she doesn't have a teen fan base around her or had things just handed to her. I also like Jimmy for similar reasons.

Iman seems like a really cool guy and he's definitely a bit underscored.

Lindsay looked amazing with the dark wig. If she went dark she'd stand out from all the blondes on the show in the most mysterious and stunning way.

I saw a few comments on facebook from those people. "Why does she have to dance with a girl? Johnny Weir didn't insist on having a male partner!" .....okay? So?

I googled this the first week and apparently she is 5'9" and Jenna is 5'2".

I only just learned JoJo is gay. I thought it was a random choice from the producers since they always like to have a twist or gimmick but this was just a refreshing decision. It'd be nice to see every season.

I didn't see any tongue bath, especially not any more than any other dancers like Amanda or Olivia. Len said it was too staccato and had the feel of a more traditional tango and Bruno - and to a lesser extent - Carrie-Ann accused them of missing a step.

I agree although I do recall Len sounding almost apologetic after his critique and qualifying it with, "Having said that, you can't make a bad performance. You're always on point." Cut to Val looking slightly perturbed, his smile faltering a bit as he continues to clap automatically.

  17. This is the first season where I'm interested in just about everyone.

BAG--I'm particularly interested in seeing each week how much he can contain his ego to learn from Sharna and allow himself negative critique. He always has to make sarcastic retorts that don't land. In my younger, dumber days I would not have noticed what huge narcissist red flags he gives off. Sharna must be exhausted in every way. I would love to see BAG stop wanting to be cool and aloof and just let loose.

This show capitalizes on "redeeming" scandalized celebs, so I don't mind Olivia Jade being here. Also, she was born and bred for fame so it may have happened anyway. She's got the charisma and I'm enjoying her inarguable talent and chemistry with Val.

I'm not sure when it happened, but I love Jenna. I thought I'd hate Jojo but with Jenna they're so enjoyable.

Melora was a fave on The Office and I'm so pleased to see her each week. She's such an elegant, talented, beautiful woman and performer.

I wasn't a Britney fan as a kid but her catalogue is iconic esp. in the dance world and I loved the theme.

Oh, I find it amusing Derek is like, "Peace TF out ya'll. It ain't worth the risk." I don't blame him.

    Random thoughts/opinions:

This was not my favorite season, but I still loved it.

Daniel and Sam are super annoying. I really wanted Tori to kick her ass again, tbh. 🤣

Johnny continues to be the best part of the show.

Robbie is a close second. I'm glad the actor is in his 20's, 'cause daaaaaaaaammmnn 😉

I don't mind getting backstory on Crease (Krease?) as long as the show doesn't try to make him more sympathetic.  I don't feel like they've done that quite yet, so I'm fine with it.

Why don't these people call the police? A kid got his arm broken, and his parents don't call the police? The kids get off scott-free?

I like the nostalgia stuff, but it can be a bit much at times. I would like more focus on the teens and their development sometimes.

Fun show, can't wait for season 4.

Agree with your entire post except the reoccuring question: "Why don't they just call the cops?"

If they call the cops much of the show's premise is over since this is a martial arts combat and bullying themed show, not a psychological thriller or romantic intrigue etc.

But from a "realism" standpoint, it never bothered me because I never even thought of that as a possibility for kids and men whose pride/toughness is challenged. In my lived experience and from what I've seen of others, when the average kid is bullied or the subject of violence, they are too humiliated to tell an adult.  Everyone will know you called the cops, akin to everyone knowing you called Mommy and Daddy like Eli endured before he flipped the script.

The culture growing up was to handle it yourself. Also, many kids get caught up in thinking high school is everything. And don't realize there are real resources outside of high school but much of it is about pride and shame. It's why some kids who get bullied don't report it and end up committing suicide (like those who spawned the "it gets better" campaign). Some others, like many mixed martial artists, say they got started in it just like these kids--to take matters into their own hands and learn how to fight.

As for men, from what I've observed and experienced, calling the cops to resolve your fights and challenges is basically admitting you lost the pissing match, so to speak. I easily believe they would settle martial arts rivalries via martial arts and not law enforcement.

  19. I don't have any issue with violence or really much of anything as long as I can or want to believe it and it's entertaining in that it works with the plot. The writers are above a deus ex machina and that was why the result of the Japanese plot was insufferable to me. If they needed to give everyone their reunion time it should not be shoehorned in. But that's just one of the many instances I found too contrived and dragged on too long, making the other stories with main cast whom I love feel messy and rushed. A lot felt disjointed and I found myself wanting scenes to wrap up already because I knew how they would end instead of savouring each moment and getting lost in it. I did love Demitri's growth and Yasmine's involvement. That was delightful and unpredictable.

  20. I agree with the Rolling Stone review. I was/am obsessed with the first 2 seasons but this was a big letdown, probably because it was too ambitious. They needed to edit and focus or order more episodes for the season.

I found the Okinawa plot horribly contrived and boring. I was bored to tears waiting for Komiko to finish reading.

I hope Season 4 has less fan service and just authentically tells the story out of a labor of love like the first 2 seasons.
