  1. I like Sandhya and Carrie, personality- and design-wise. Amanda's team was the worst and definitely "DIY" as Carrie pointed out. Only took 2 episodes and back to mistrusting PR again.

Angela is being a mouse and I hope she overcomes it because it sucks to see her making herself an easier target. That behaviour magnifies her weaknesses and doesn't promote her strengths. She's being no more emotional than anyone else in her reactions to things but because she keeps talking about it, she's creating that image of herself and perception is reality, e.g., when the two-faced Samantha narrated: "Angela is freaking out and grabbing everything!" They were all doing that.

  2. I'm loving all the design diversity this season and hating the bigotry already rearing its head. The girl who talked the most shit did a dime-a-dozen 90s Vogue cover gown but acted like she invented it.

So glad the panel is back to balance out my newfound distaste for Tim. I can cautiously begin liking him again in this context. Sad that it used to be "Yay Tim!" and now it's "Ugh. Tim."

  3. The cones concept sucked and I couldn't stop imagining tasting Knead's Breads after Joe gushed over them. Love their name, too. Sucks that Joe/Tim/ the show doesn't have a big enough budget for them.

I would never want a sweet cone let alone a savoury one. Soggy and unhealthy. Corn syrup? Ugh. I agreed with Joe that she herself was impressive at conducting herself but she's all bluster, no substance.

I love all the pitch parts of the show. Joe and Tim's comments are totally substantial and, therefore, fully engaging.

  4. This is the best show of this type I've seen. I didn't expect it to have depth, but be a farce like that one with Bobby Flay in a food court. I love the numbers talk, all the jargon, and today seeing Joe and Tim be servers. I knew they'd go with the sexy pitch because it's better TV. I thought the lady with the Joan Rivers mouth was sort of useless but it turned out her sharp business partner made the biggest mistake in deciding to make everything to order.

  5. I was surprised that Jeremey won it instead of Albert, it seemed like they were leaning more towards him, but I'm OK with it. I didn't find it a very interesting show tonight.

They were pulling for him, as was I, because he seemed like a genuinely contrite and humble kid with promise. Too bad he was noticeably out-cooked in the dessert round but I'm grateful to the judges for their integrity. If Albert's dessert were just a little bit better it would have secured him the win I think.

Maneet has never looked better than this episode with her cute half up-do. I've always liked her as a judge and was glad to see that she was moved by Albert as I was.

  6. I can't stand Bryan Singer so I wasn't expecting anything from this show but it was watchable for summer with a strong cast. At this point my favourite character is Bickman--he's well cast. It's dumb fun in the way Nip/Tuck was and would benefit greatly from being on cable.

It's neat seeing Breaking Bad's Lydia in this frumpy mom role.

  7. I liked Clara, and it was annoying how they dinged her in the first round for supposedly "not being herself" since she cooked a (beautiful) dish she remembered from one of the restaurants she worked at, and didn't put her Asian heritage into it.

I hated that too however I don't know if it would have been said if Clara hadn't volunteered it in her presentation to the judges. It seemed like she thought she'd be praised for copying it so well because it baffled me as to why she'd admit that when presenting the dish. Perhaps she was told by producers to say it, though.

  8. Really? I can't wait to see Spike and Marcel's show! Hope it's more structured than the one they did for YouTube's Tasted. Am another who is really glad to see their maturation and success as chefs and public figures.

Also agree that Spike was a good guest judge, and he's always good TV.

  9. Can't stand Scott's embarrassing single white male-ing of Geoffrey, right down to the "it would have behooved you to..." in this Father's Day episode. He said he was too scared of cooking in the Chopped tournament but with Geoffrey judging he won and has been emulating him and puffing out his chest since.

  10. Watching the episode I got a vibe that Chef Good Home and Chef Bad Dad had a little chemistry thing going on.

Me too, or at least, she was her nice self and he was charmed (as were most of us).

How refreshing to have the Korean chef be talented but also happy about her life instead of plying us with why we should feel sorry for her. That said, I could not identify more with Abused Chef when he said he gets, "Wait till father gets home feeling" in the pit of his stomach. I felt for him but this is exasperating. We don't tune into Chopped for a Lifetime drama; we tune in for the cooking.
