  1. I was proud of Ryan. THought he was another lousy pretty boy but he showed a lot of improvement and delivered a good vocal of Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent." His competitor was shrieking at the end--awful. Agreed with Adam's comments completely--especially his self-awareness of being "the king of squirrel-yness."

Brava to Jean. I HATE Sia's voice and therefore have never remotely enjoyed Chandelier--until sung by Jean. It was also the first time I understood the lyrics.

I laughed at how Pharrell so honestly said the male reggae singer was "in his own world, and who can argue with that?"

Swifty is always painfully off beat when she subjects people to her dancing.

Totally disagreed with Blake. Reagan was so off pitch. Grant did great. Funny how he looks like an old kid. He already has the bags under his eyes and threat of a receding hairline! His seriousness and Buddy Holly hair and style reminds me of Rivers Cuomo.

    Anita was awesome.

  2. Don't blame Erin one bit for copping a rubdown of Val. :p I don't care an iota for Janel (in fact, she's kind of annoying with the bad acting in their packages) but I'd be glad if this was Val's victorious season--if it's not Alfonso and Witney's, that is!

I'm tired of seeing Sharna's sexy face/impression of "video ho" in those bumpers inspired by pop/hip-hop videos. She's gorgeous but actually looks silly or unconvincing doing it...like, even she's tired of it or embarrassed about it.

Mark's contemporaries all look the same to me, but he and Sadie deserved to win the dance off. Bethany was slow and stiff and so reminded me of another of Derek's overscored partners: Ricki Lake.

Ready for Lea to go after seeing how dead serious she was about choosing what she perceived to be "easy mode" to win the dance off. It's uncomfortable witnessing how desperate she is to win.

I too was wondering why this singer we've never heard of was covering the Alanis song.  Mark's girlfriend?  Great.  Does she have any songs of her own or was she shoe-horned in, before she gets tossed into the pile of Mark's exes?  He likes the singers, huh?  Sabrina, Pia, Joanna Pacitti, this one...

He likes them the same way Justin Timberlake started dating actresses when he needed their contacts. What industry does Mark want to break into? Music.

  3. I missed Nina in regards to Benjamin's look. I could totally see her calling it out as just a dated look. The model was outstanding and he executed it well but the design was just a variation of the one-shoulder dresses that were all the rage a few years ago when all the dolman sleeves were in with the thick belts and leggings.

  4. When I saw Zanna again I groaned: "Oh yeah. This is that series with the cheerleader for a mentor." (Although, Tim isn't much better these days. Hell, I'd welcome Anne Slowey back and I wish Joanna Coles wasn't busy running Cosmo.)

Helen reproducing the same basic dress/silhouette she almost always does.

Alexandria irks me b/c of her snotty confessionals and just her overall snotty being. I'm sure there will be many more to come. I did share her reaction to Kate coming back for the 3rd time, though.

I like Ivanka but I think she lacks real imagination and is all about basic ready-to-wear, as evidenced in her faulting of Chris March's look but gushing over Michelle's.

I really like Fabio but actually preferred (ugh) Alexandria's look.

  5. Funny seeing Antonia continue Elizabeth Faulkner's bridesmaid curse, which, coincidentally Antonia herself used to share. The difference is Elizabeth has no humour about it but I don't fault her for that. Refreshing to see someone not playing anything up for the cameras. She definitely won't give you a fake smile for the sake of it, etc., and I think that's impacted her career as a celebrity chef.

Also neat seeing Antonia judging Fabio. I've never been a Fabio fan because I don't think much of his cooking. (I hate it when chefs use the "I'm XYZ so what do you expect me to know outside of that" excuse and I'm immune to the charms of his Italian accent except when he does FOH.). I don't dislike him though so good for him and his charity.

I enjoyed all the chefs this battle but was hoping Faulkner would finally win and maybe she'd be less bitter. She did allow herself some smiles this time, though.

  6. Vince has the occupation she wanted to dig more than the money but that was the cherry on top. (She was with him before Gaga right?) She loves him on those 2 conditions. That don't make her a real gold digger though because she does enjoy his company just like people are attracted to their partners physically but may not like other things about them (e.g., a bf whose bed game is insane but temper is, too.) It's a trade off and she found the ones she prioritizes most in a person: music business connections and steady income which turned into major income after they already were solid.

  7. This show is another stinker in the PR Lifetime tradition. I tuned most of the show out, but returned for Christian Siriano's critiques. I agree it was cool seeing him deftly adapt to his younger audience.

Bradford's final 2 looks were comparable to or better than some designers' showings on regular PR.

I did get a kick out of little Veruca Salt/Lila Fowler, though.

  8. I hope Jay Sario brings it. I thought he was robbed before of showing. I loved his work.

I love Dmitry and his precise, no-nonsense personality and elegant, architectural aesthetic. (He reminds me of ST: TNG's Data who I also love.)

  9. Adam needs to pose in the dark all the time. Damn he's never looked and performed better. And I even found him charming and laughed when he declared his plan was to scare the monsters right back.

I wonder how many times he's bumped his head, though. Probably a lot.

Also, I don't know if Shei was just being her nice self, but when she caressed his forehead to soothe him I thought they'd make a scorchingly hot couple. Here for that.

I hope Lenox, Shei, or even Adam wins this.

    • Love 6
  10. I was pleased to see Shei break out of the pack. I hope she continues to do well. Would be great to see an Asian American win. At first I thought her "TyOver" was just offensively and lamely derived from orientalized imagery but I noticed how outstanding she's been looking since that shoot where she was comforting a crying Lenox.

I want to Ben to leave again.

  11. Char and her chintzy Forever 21 designs were repulsive. The girl in the front row with the white shirt and curls wore the same look of disgust I had viewing it. Nina is totally unconvincing repeating how Char "understands colours and patterns" and "knows what girls want to wear." I miss the Nina who first rightly said that about Uli.

Sean's opening piece was stunning. Everything thereafter made me feel l needed to take out a broom and dustpan and start sweeping. He repeated the same draped fringe dress just in different colours! Chris March did fringe way better.

Amanda recalls Anya but with curved colour blocking instead of prints.

I was disappointed Kini underperformed in what was a totally underwhelming season.

  12. I found interesting the lingering look Carrie gave herself in the mirror before doing the deed. It was as though she was both appraising her appearance and what would become of her soul.

Other than that and Quinn and Carrie's electrifying chemistry in the minute they shared, it was a dreary episode.

    • Love 1
  13. Yawn. Only good thing about this episode was reminding me of how much I loved Christina Aguilera's voice back then. Those two girls were thin and shrieky although one had good moments.

  14. Julianne's mea culpa to Mark was still a slight. There was no need to qualify it with the pointed and inaccurate "this season." I loved how Sadie lost the awkwardness and blossomed into a swan for Mark's rumba.

I have 0 interest in Bethenny now that she's reunited with Derek. I realize it's cuz I have 0 interest in Derek for the reasons Leah hit him for: between him and his sister, they could call this DwtHoughs!

I liked Pitbull and agreed with him on Janel & Val's lack of genuine passion: "it's not being mean, it's being real." Except for one dance, Janel leaves me cold while Val's contrived lines make me roll my eyes. It's Kelly Monaco redux without the genuine chemistry and Kelly's relatability and vulnerability.

I had to rewatch Witney & Alfonso multiple times before I successfully tore my eyes away from Witney to see how well Alfonso was keeping up.

  15. I appreciate how Adam swiftly ate his words about Keriann: "Remember how pissed you were when I made you give up the lobster?" paired with his voiceover reversing his discrediting of her: "our beautiful blond thoroughbred carian grabs the knife, clams are flying open."

Grateful I don't have to hear about Isabella here, too, anymore.

Blais is a refreshing addition to the panel. I trust his comments more than the others at this point. I can't with his shellacked hair, though.

  16. Surprisingly, Gavin has provided more insight and been more incisive than...say, undisputed legend Stevie Nicks so far. I enjoy seeing Gwen and Gavin's working dynamic. They are adorable together bopping along to the singers.

I'm less interested in the would-be stars each season b/c I know they will pretty much disappear post-show, but the new coaches and mentors are keeping me passively viewing.

  17. I was amazed and cackling when Jessie J threw out the '6' to set the tone for the night, but winced at how she unrelentingly ripped into Peta. And I disliked how she rambled and tried to make it about her as much as possible. I was wearing the same tight fake-smile as Julianne when Jesse J cut into her time with her self-importance.

I also appreciated Julianne's accurate comments about burlesque. That was not burlesque, nor was it sexy.

Mark managed to make Bethenny interesting for the first time, and hip hop blend in on this show rather than stick out as cartoony and cliched. Len would have genuinely enjoyed it I think. Mark is great at bringing out the best in somewhat reserved female partners who have the potential and work ethic.

Val is a better actor (and choreographer) than Maks. He's the one who should go into acting after this.

  18. Actually, Pharrell really is the total package. If you have ever seen him perform, he tears it up, and artists who have worked with him talk about how he helped them develop their stage presence, so pointers from every aspect.

Really? I've only seen him perform in N.E.R.D. and now. They've been pretty underwhelming but you've piqued my curiosity to look into more.

  19. I saw that as nothing but a fall-back excuse to keep from eliminating her, because her work on the show itself (my opinion) would not qualify her to go forward.  They needed an excuse to keep the Tim Gunn save and Nina provided it.  I could practically see the producers standing behind her making her mouth move. :-).

Yes. The Nina Garcia I've watched over the years would have ripped into Char's ridiculous efforts. They were foul in taste and construction while also lacking creativity and design. Nina has unleashed her fury on disasters that were much less offensive than what Char put up as an entry to fashion week.

On the other hand, I easily see what the judges saw in Sean's white ensemble and, to be fair, they don't have much to fawn over this season so it was made more impressive as a result.

  20. And how pissed would you be to walk into the rehearsal studio and find out that Gavin Rossdale is your mentor? That guy has been irrelevant for at least a decade. The other mentors are real stars and Gwen's team gets Gavin? Maybe he'll give them advice on how to marry a rockstar so you can pretend to be relevant. What a joke. Shows that Gwen is more interested in promo for her family than in helping the contestants from her team.

I disagree that recent success is a prerequisite for being a quality mentor. I liked Bush in its day and am sure he is a more qualified mentor than the mostly corporate manufactured crop of stars currently on the charts. As an aside, I find it dismaying when aspiring youth in any industry don't care to do their research or have respect for those that came before (not that Bush/Gavin is some rock legend or anything).

OK. Adam is hot again for the moment he's genuinely moved by an audition like he was with WGWG Matt McAndrew. I was impressed with him, too. He does sound "seasoned" and a little like Thom Yorke and all the other guys who sort of have that sound.

Gwen is more enjoyable each episode. I laughed along with them when Blake sang "Hella Good" in her face when that non-country girl picked him because she watches the show like we do and sees his good mentorship (esp. for young girls).

  21. Janel and Val did an awesome rumba! I didn't care about Janel before despite her solid performances. I fell for her in the rumba. She was smouldering like softcore porn is how convincing she was! :p

I love watching Jonathan. His joy to be there in honour of his dad's memory is pure, palpable, and a pleasure to see.

Whitney looked so darned cute doing the Carlton.

The samba danced by Sadie and Mark (ridiculous costume and all) was great fun though I thought at times she looked gangly and awkward.

"Gangly" (and busy and sloppy) is what I thought the whole time. She was bringing me back to Zendaya and Val, although Zendaya hid it a bit better, I think. I always enjoy Sadie and Mark but hated this from start to finish.

  22. I don't know WHAT has gotten into me but I'm finally drinking the Adam is Hot Kool-Aid. I'm baffled/ashamed. But I think it's his default dumb as a doorknob expression mixed with his gorgeous physique and earnestness/vulnerability that makes me fantasize about tying him up and having my way with him.

Denzel does look like an actor and could easily slide into any stock "hot guy" role like on a daytime or nighttime soap.

I think for once Tyra said exactly the right thing to someone.

Amazingly, I liked all of what Tyra said in panel--both her frank smackdown of Denzel and her critiques.
