  1. Jason Mraz was groovin'! Only dance I'm gonna rewatch. Alfonso was very good and I know in time he's going to be perfect for this. Julianne was as expected (beautiful and delivering a dancer's entrance) but thank goodness she is scripted and won't be competing with Carrie-Ann (and Tyra, ever again) for shrillest ditz.
  2. Here for the gorgeous Tyson Beckford and adorable Mira Sorvino. Romy and Michelle was my BFF jam.
  3. I'm disappointed no more Disney+. That was having the show at my fingertips, no commercials, rewinding, fast forwarding, and rewatching as much as I want.
  4. Any Asian man will tell you that Asian (Western) girls often only date white guys and use the "you remind me of my brother" as the excuse/reason.
  5. Season 1 was a pleasant, fun surprise. Season 2 was ok but starting to become overly contrived. Season 3 totally unconvincing, predictable, stupid contrivances. As if anyone thought she wasn't going to end up working for Slyvie and that charade went on far too long. Alfie still has 0 character development so no reason to feel invested in him. He is a giant plot device. Also the best friend seems to get so much air time it's like the show should be renamed for her. Or maybe it just seems that way because I don't believe or enjoy her character or the actress. Was looking forward to the show's return but every episode is a chore.
  6. Contrived and predictable, too much of the best friend again who has 0 charisma and a screeching voice when she isn't sticking to her unpleasant low register.
  7. Agree. Charli also is very young and she comes across as a girl who has spent most of her life on one thing and hasn't had much other life experience or education. Those people tend to be self-conscious about this and more in their shell when having to rely on their knowledge/personality. She only comes alive while dancing--where she is confident and where she can sort of become the alter ego of the character of a dance. As for her continuing to put herself in the spotlight, well...we are all encouraged, motivated, pressured by $ucce$$ and would be crazy to turn down all the opportunities. I speak from a bit of personal identification in having been shy before but thrusted myself into the spotlight under the safety net of a character/role which helped me gain confidence overall as it was very successful and encouraging. And aging helped. Charli is still a teenager, which is very apparent off stage. That said, was underwhelmed by their freestyle and their win. Enjoyed her redemption jive as her first one suffered from focusing mostly on the contemporary. It was the jive I expected from her before. Shangela and Natasha aka Gleb were amazing and wish they could have somehow won or at least gotten 2nd. But I can be glad my all-time fave, Mark, got to dance his heart out and receive the respect I always felt Derek got but Mark deserved (also/more?).
  8. This rings true for every single ringer they've had and none (except maybe the OG Nicole Scherzinger) ever won me over fully because I never wanted to rewatch their dances and never truly loved watching them. Except Charli post-foxtrot. After that I had to admit I floved that! It helps Charli is also very photogenic with full costume. She has a look I personally love to watch if employed properly and she definitely does. It also helps of course that she is paired with my favorite pro and I love his choreography and vision for a dance. Meryl, for example, I was ringer biased against from the beginning and never lost it bc I truly did not enjoy watching her from a personal taste pov and have always found Maks ill-tempered and his choreo uninspired and performance vision underwhelming.
  9. Charli and Mark's Paso was outstanding! He even brought out some Spanish guitar to start. I was so happy with every second. I love how Mark can enjoy not having to dance down or, more importantly, choreograph down. He's never looked like he's having more fun out there or afterwards ever looked so proud. At least not in a long time. Mark left after it seemed he wasn't getting the appreciation (I felt, anyway) he and his work deserved. So glad for him to get that with Charli. That said, I'd be most happy for Shangela. I'm sad she landed in the bottom 2. Hope they pull through with the votes. Thank you, Gaga! Also, with dear Len going, I hope Derek can maintain some judging standards of prioritizing good technique and less "mucking about." I enjoy my mucking about and gimmicks but there needs to be a balance. The worse seasons were with 3 shrieking Paula Abdul-type judges when Julianne was there.
  10. Rewatching Charli's professional-level salsa and I have to say the comments about her being unexpressive or like a robot confound me. The dance floor is where she has ALL the charisma, all the expressiveness, much more than some other ringers we've had. She's incredibly passionate and confident with as much showmanship as any pro on the show. It's when she's not dancing she's like a robot on low battery.
  11. I wouldn't have a problem with this, tbh. She's one of the more self-indulgent talking heads that encourages Tyra to continue her nonsense, interrupting Len et al.
  12. Charli having to compliment Gabby and pretend it was anywhere near close was amusing and uncomfortable. No one competing is near her pro level--nor should they be. I am happy just to see her dance. I hope the finals are Shangela and Trevor, and anyone else I'm cool with watching, just wouldn't be thrilled if s/he won. Oh and I was rooting for Wayne also but he's really suffered after getting sick and putting a lot of stress on his bad knee(s). It's influenced my enjoyment and anticipation of his performances.
  13. I'm a few minutes in and Dominic West is already more distracting and unconvincing than I feared. ETA: OK he is attempting to do Charles' cadence and it is a decent effort. Between this and the verité of Diana's casting, I might be able to suspend disbelief enough but it will never compare to the gravitas and eerie verisimilitude last season brought.
  14. I used to think y'all were exaggerating or "Give it a rest, already" but Tyra is truly like an aggravating fly I can't swat away. She really thinks we are here for her claptrap instead of judges' fleeting critiques. I love the 90s and this theme was so much fun! Can't believe I was seeing Kid n Play on DwtS!
  15. Omg at this Derek typo 🤭 I like Derek a lot more now since becoming a judge. As a pro I was sick of him and would have loved calling him "Drek." I've given in to the Charli inevitability. Her foxtrot also impressed the heck out of me. I am enjoying just seeing them dance and hope they get finals, but don't win. And an Emmy win for Mark would be awesome! Vinnie is an OK personality but should have gone 3 episodes ago. I hate watching them. I find their choreo, themes, sets, makeup, and wardrobe lame too. I'm not sure about Koko yet. I hope the next 2 eliminated are Vinnie and Daniel.
  16. I can't say I love this show because I feel like shit watching it, but it's definitely well made and "must see tv" for me. I feel like I need therapy after each episode b/c it brings up so much of my shit. I can barely stomach post-show coverage. I like this tweet on the show.
  17. Thank you, Hair department! Mark sans manbun brings back all his sexy leading man looks, which also gave him and Charli that convincing chemistry they lacked in some dances. Charli's contemporary and foxtrot were both amazing. I would be lying if I didn't look forward to them, but I know I'd not care about her if she wasn't paired with Mark. Wish Vinnie had gone instead of Jessie. The kids on social media said they planned on voting for anyone but her or some kind of strategy. I find that pretty mean given she's never been the worst and has been great with 0 dance experience, but seems to receive the most online criticism.
  18. There's another angle to this I just realized could explain Arnold's absence: Joseph doesn't want him there. He did say he wants to prove himself on his own and "I don't want to ask for help." It'd be natural for him to go through life driven with a bit of a chip on his shoulder to prove his "worthiness," especially every time there's a family gathering or spotlight on him. He said "I was actually the first to want to go into acting." But Patrick Schwarzenegger has already broken through and had some good roles (like The Staircase)--but, unlike what Joe wants, Patrick surely used his father's connections.
  19. I think it's just really disingenuous when someone who is obviously extremely confident pretends not to be. You don't have major self-esteem issues and insecurity "being sexy," like she claimed to have if you're throwing yourself into the public eye/show business where your persona is largely dependent on your looks, have Broncos Cheerleader on your resume, and, sign up for The Bachelor and Bachelorette. That's why her "jokes" are off, too; they seem like humble brags or fishing for compliments. She claimed imposter syndrome and said high scores are needed to fix that when she already has always been tied near the top.
  20. It wouldn't surprise me if the awful timing was her decision. They have to give her something as EP and she bragged about having all "this input" except for casting.
  21. Trevor is one of my faves and progressing on track but he is being judged by the Ringer metric so is just fodder. Charli, by that same metric, did not live up to expectations and performed a very lackluster jive. Similarly, I've enjoyed seeing Jessie work hard to grow each week. I was happy for her and Alan. It felt like my legs were aching after watching them!
  22. Sigh. Lucy is so dickmatized. It's uncomfortable to watch people be their very human, selfish, ignoble versions of themselves. That Pippa oral sex scene and the talk that followed was embarrassingly realistic. I cringed and applauded. Her back story was really good and makes me like the character a lot more.
  23. Alan's camera mugging amounted to aggressively asking voters to notice and pick them, and I loved every second of it. Jessie did well and I hope she relaxes and stops talking about her stress and anxiety as I don't think audiences recieve that well. Joseph and Vinnie were just ok. Joseph's routines do rely too much on gimmicks, like Len said. Trevor was not bad and was judged a but harshly IMHO. Charli and Mark continue to disappoint me. I love Mark but he doesn't seem as inspired or the chemistry isn't as good with her. My expectations are higher for her, and apart from their first dance, I haven't been wowed. She repeats the same goofy faces and tik tok moves that Mark incorporates for her.
  24. This is believable, in my unfortunate experience. It's only year 1 of the narcissistic abuse. She thinks he's a typical horny college guy whom she's reforming and she's "won" his love over his (very impressive) ex-gf. She doesn't think he's a manipulative, potentially evidence-tampering POS, capable of just about anything to look out for his selfish agenda. In order to avoid cognitive dissonance from her love of him, she has to believe his explanations whenever he gaslights her.
  25. I don't believe Paige stayed for Henry. Paige stayed for Paige. She's ultimately one of their 2 American kids, as Claudia put it, and was having fun trying on different identities as young adults do. She wanted to feel special and belong so she became a Bible thumper. Her convictions didn't last too long once indoctrinated by her mom and then she tried on Soviet Spy. Once shit got too real there, she split again and hopefully comes to terms with the fact she is just a typical Taylor Swift American girl.
