I thought it was weird that the actor who plays Caleb was in the beginning credits even though we never saw his dead body. I should have guessed the end because of that.

The casting was great for the three kids, especially Lily. It kind of reminded me of the Joel/Julia end scene on Parenthood. They sure made a point to have Beckett be shot in the womb twice this season.

I guess we're lucky the button scene for closure wasn't the family/friends in front of two graves.

Maybe if Kate had died (to start season 9) the kids would have been her dying thoughts, like Caleb alluded to a few episodes ago. Because that wouldn't have gotten the showrunners and network death threats ("look, she's dead, she'll never have this.")

Interesting that, after all the Twitter talk about her, "Lily" probably would have been cut out of the episode if there was a season 9.

THR even thinks Caleb was LokSat in its review. That's how much nobody understood wtf that whole storyline was about. I'm glad we got the tacked on happy ending. Twin boys and older sister Lily. I agree the cliffhanger would have been them both bleeding out with Beckett revealed as dead in a season 9.

So Alexi and TPW *still* haven't commented on *their* show being cancelled. At the very least, wouldn't you think they would tweet out a little promo/encouragement to watch? Weird.

I could see Molly getting one of those ABC deals (official or just a verbal promise) where she's given an advantage in future pilot casting. The network seems to like her. And with the right script, I think she could thrive.

I hope people are bracing themselves that "closure" might mean we see Beckett flatline now instead of in the season premiere.

Assuming ABC didn't want the Stana news to leak early, we probably never would have known a Beckett-less S9 was even an option.

How I would love to be a fly on the wall for this decision. Maybe it was always on the bubble and the Stana news was leaked to get a read on it. Or maybe they were really so clueless they thought people would watch a Beckett-less season 9 then were blindsided.

It could also be Beckett. It wouldn't be Castle's first ex muse/(ex) lover to end up a baddie (Jennifer Beals). They'd probably do the whole "I was still really in love with you thing," but Beckett would have to die. And it could be somewhat justified. Or maybe LokSat is Royal the dog. That bitch.

If the writers/network take the obvious route, LokSat is Vikram. If they try to be creative, my guess is it's Mr. Smith or Jim Beckett or Stepmom Cusack.

I just had a terrible thought. What if Beckett doesn't die, but she's "Aunt Viv'd" (Fresh Prince) and wakes up next season in a hospital bed played by a different actress? The "budgetary" excuse would still work if it's an unknown actress that's cheaper than Stana. This sounds ridiculous but I don't put anything past the network at this point.

I think he survived the pipes because Castle and/or the boys mentioned he was sent to that psych hospital. I could have misunderstood though.

I never called my Facebook scientific. You're getting more and more condescending with your posts by the day. We get it, you love playing Devil's Advocate. We all have different views.

I don't get who these focus group people are that say they would watch without Beckett. Unless they don't watch the show and are being questioned about a one-off episode. I can see how Beckett isn't immediately likeable, especially in early episodes. Everyone on my Facebook who casually watches and commented when I shared the Stana leaving link all said they wouldn't watch anymore.

I got $50 on eBay for my seasons 1-7 Castle DVDs and, barring a crazy turnaround, have no plans to watch it ever again beyond next week.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm not ruling out this all being a big punk with Beckett living and Stana even possibly coming back.

The sad thing is that, had Beckett never existed, what they're going for could work (and might with people unattached to Beckett/Stana). I like Toks and have always liked Nathan. It's just the disregard of a crucial character that taints it for me.

I agree, but it would be kind of funny if after all this cluster they cancelled it anyway.
