I didn't find him sympathetic at all. From the first I thought he was a sniveling d-bag with a bad attitude and likely to become a troublemaker. There was only one episode where I thought he was doing the right thing during a crisis but that was short-lived. Zero sympathy from me, especially considering his actions in the last couple of episodes. I haven't read the book yet but I probably will at some point this year.

I would have condoned it back in the 1840s. There were reasons for it, especially in the Navy when there were no radios or GPS on dangerous voyages. Mutiny and insubordination would mean everyone dies so the punishment had to be severe to also serve as a deterrent to others.

I didn't like this at all. I turned it off about 3/4 of the way through. Just awful.

I've only been paying attention to FJ in this year's college tournament. Was 3 for 3 coming into tonight. But then we get to ... and I'm out until this tourney is over. There's just no "there" there.

I can understand her fine. The trick is to not look at her mouth because she appears to be trying to win some contest to see who can say the most while moving their lips the least. She's got a second carreer as a ventriloquist waiting if she ever gets tired of the nanny thing. I'm having a hard time deciding whether I'd rank her ahead or behind of our old friend Coma Kerry from a couple of seasons ago. I like Emily, though, and I didn't care so much for Kerry, so I'll say Emily is not as bad as Coma Kerry. Sort of randomly connected (but maybe a little OT)... Been watching The Man In The High Castle for the last couple of weeks and last night there was a Japanese General giving a rousing pep talk to some military guys in a room. At the end he leads them in a few rounds of "Banzai!" I chuckled and said out loud, "That reminds me of the Cheech & Chong bit from Big Bambu where the same speech, more or less, is being given to a room full of kamikaze pilots. At the end a lone voice in the back of the room says, "Honorable General, Sir! You're out of your F-ing mind!" So 3 C+C references over 2 days on 2 different shows.

Thanks for this. That was the only question I had after the show tonight. I'm glad Rebecca won but, for whatever reasons, I didn't mind Lisa at all and was rooting for her to win again.

I will always and forever dislike any contestant who is an incorrigible jumper regardless of any other redeeming qualities they might possess. Rahul was particularly egregious on that score. BOO to contestants who feel the need to jump all over the board. I'm ecstatic that he lost. He answered Frida Kahla and Diego Rivero IIRC. A slip of the tongue, no doubt, but he answered incorrectly.

Thanks for pointing out that page. Bookmarked. I like the comment, "I started by using the show's own "where to watch" page, but it ended up not being good enough." So true. The official Jeopardy! website is the last place I'd go to find any information about the show. It does make them seem like cheapskates. Some people have been clamoring for higher prize amounts for a while and this makes it seem like they don't want to pay out an extra $18,000 once or twice a year. Or once every 3 years. Is this the Arthur Rule?

Alex is fine. Seriously. When you've lived his life and walked a mile in his shoes then feel free to criticize the man. Otherwise it's just internet noise.

The characters and story are most excellent. I was sad Lopez didn't make it. They presented him as a menacing character who would interrogate and then, perhaps, torture his captives. He turned out to be a humane professional officer doing his job. Very sad when he didn't make it. "I'd always hoped to see oceans on Mars!"

Ah the dreaded scroll down. Now I see them :) Thank you! It is a great show.

Binging this on Amazon Prime right now and sad to see I missed some of this commentary by 2 years. Only comment threads for this episode and Episode 1? Am I reading that right? A shame.

I didn't get to watch Wednesday's show due to nonstop wall-to-wall local coverage of the school shooting in Broward County. No Wheel, no Jeopardy! and no first 20 minutes of the Amazing Race either. Anyway, I see here that Frank lost. THANK GOD!

I thought including The Waitresses as a One-Hit-Wonder was inappropriate. Besides "I Know What Boys Like", their 1982 single, "Christmas Wrapping" out-charted it in the UK and stays that way to this day. I suppose there's some definition of "hit" used to designate One-Hit-Wonders but they had TWO for Pete's sake.

There was no way DeNogaret was going to die. Just like the preceding episode when he lay in bed foaming at the mouth from the poison. I said to myself, no WAY do they kill off this character before the end of the series.

I got Follett and effigy and another TS or two but I was really surprised to see Brandon pull this one out. I would have bet real money that Dave knew FJ. I got that instantly. You just remember weird random shit sometimes. I found this obituary from the NYT (2011) for Col. Ralph Abertazzie and to my surprise the exact quote from Albertazzie's book that I remember reading back in 1979 was at the bottom: Nixon. Insta-get.

I like the new champ, Brandon. I also liked Sean. I'll be doing his opening wave all year. I loved it. I take issue with Alex's statement that "we can't afford to maintain our national parks" or whatever the exact words were. The current political climate obviously puts very little priority on maintenance and upkeep of our natural resources, but it's simply not true that we "can't afford it". It's just not a high priority in Washington DC lately. The huge budget cuts for 2018 for the National Park Service, for instance (because I don't think the Appalachian Trail is funded by them), is solely the result of lobbying by the oil and gas industry in this country. I don't want to go all political about it, but not being able to "afford it" is an absurd claim.

I hear the Chairman on the original Iron Chef (when they went to NYC for a special) introducing him as, "Booby Fraaaay!" (Not making fun of his accent, that's how he said it and it made me laugh!) It'll be easier to skip the college tournament if it's not aired until June or July. Get well soon, Alex. I had not heard a thing about his fall. Not good.

So Kassie misses 5 out of 6 questions and then comes back on stage at the end and declares, "That was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life!" Good grief. People like this should have to pay to be on TV.
-
Ah, so it's tonight then? Thanks. I had a look at the NBC page for the show. I hate to be shallow and judge people by their appearance and first impressions, but Niko and Kassie look like 2 people I have no desire to watch on television. I'd rather defrag my computer's hard drive. Was hoping to watch Better Late Than Never instead but apparently it's on the same network so that won't work. Defrag it is for an hour.

I got Tennessee Ernie Ford from watching old I Love Lucy reruns that were already 15 years old when I saw them in the '60s. He was blown away by the big hole in the ground "and there's a railroad down there!" (a/k/a the NYC subway). I think my parents had a TEF Christmas album, too. Other than that, I know who he is/was but virtually no exposure at all to any of his work. To my mind, his most famous role is being there to confuse me when the answer I'm looking for is Tennessee Williams.

Just saw an ad on TV for this show returning soon. It really bothers me that this is still being produced a year later. It doesn't say a whole lot about the viewing public. If no one was watching it then it wouldn't be on. Will probably watch at least the beginning of an episode when it returns. The holiday special episode was cringe.

Never heard of a hinny. Instead of Brown Gown I guessed Dirt Skirt. Then Comcast decided to take the rest of the evening off. TV froze up a few questions into the Double Jeopardy! round and was out until after 10 pm. No TV, no internet, no phone. It sounds like I wouldn't have gotten Final Jeopardy!. Birthstones? Zodiac signs? No way would I have gotten the answer, whatever it was.

"Bowel Hymn of the Republic" LOL I knew that was the 2nd verse of The Star Spangled Banner immediately. If I could ask Ami one question: Do you talk that way on purpose?

No Jeopardy! today in West Palm. Hopefully my Christmas wish will come true when I tune in tomorrow night and find Donna is gone. Way more irritating than Austin and Buzzy combined. Yikes!
