ironclown June 13, 2014 Share June 13, 2014 He's the Friend I like the most out of the six, so I wanted to start a topic about him. (Also, I'm hard-pressed to think about good taglines for the other five.) I was totally struck by Roger's (Phoebe's squeeze in "The One With The Boobies") observation about Chandler: "I wouldn't wanna be there when the laughter stops". This is because my love for Chandler is in no small part due to my similarities with him, like using sarcasm and humor as a front for his insecurities. That's why I was really glad that Monica eventually did hook up and then marry him. My personal fanwank is that the reason Chandler became less snarkier as the series progressed was due to him no longer having to be so snarky, due to his relationship with Monica. So, discuss Chandler Muriel Bing here. 3 Link to comment

Milk-Eyed Mender January 6, 2015 Share January 6, 2015 I loved Chandler UNTIL he married Monica and we got stuck with crap like the secret door, shark porn, dog phobias and the housekeeper wearing a suspicious pair of jeans. I felt like the writers put their best work into bringing Monica and Chandler together, but never knew quite what to do with them once the ink dried on the marriage certificate. 4 Link to comment
PinkCupcake January 6, 2015 Share January 6, 2015 I agree Milk-Eyed Mender - I feel like some of Chandler's sarcastic fun was taken away after he and Monica got married. Maybe that was bound to happen, being that he was married to a person with such a, shall we say, strong personality like Monica's. Some of those storylines were just weird. I would've liked more Joey/Chandler antics even after Monica and Chandler got married - their dynamic was one of the best, if not the best, on the show. I also feel like they made Monica rather condescending/rude to him at times too - her purchase of the boots comes to mind, as do her remarks to him as he's trying to come up with advertising slogans before interviewing with that acquaintance of hers ("Marriage - it's not for everyone!" I mean OUCH!). Meanwhile, Chandler was often "yes dear" about a lot of things, to the point that he came off as a bit henpecked at times. In spite of all of this, one of my favorite Chandler moments was when Erica found out that he and Monica had lied about who they were, and he chased after her when she stormed out and gave the speech about Monica being a mom without a baby. That one gets me every time! 3 Link to comment
Milk-Eyed Mender January 7, 2015 Share January 7, 2015 Well, to be fair, those slogans would be grounds for divorce in 50 states and the District of Columbia. ;) Seriously though, I agree with your entire post, cupcake. Realistically it makes sense for Chandler to grow up, move out, get married, but something pretty special was lost when he and Joey went their separate ways. Link to comment

truebluesmoky February 17, 2015 Share February 17, 2015 I like the dog phobia! It goes with not liking Thanksgiving in my brain. It also gives us "Ross doesn't like ice cream" and Ross's funny reactions. Link to comment
