SunnyBeBe January 6, 2020 Share January 6, 2020 I'm glad to see this new thread about Girls. I've just started watching. Just finished season 1 and part of season 2. I would l love to hear other people's thoughts on it. Very provocative to say the least. 1 Link to comment
SunnyBeBe January 15, 2020 Share January 15, 2020 I'm not so sure that I like how they turned the man who Hannah was afraid of and thought was harassing her into her knight in shining armor. It's a common contrivance in tv shows to have the man who the woman shunned, continue to harass her, eventually win her over, because he would not accept no for an answer. I think that is a dangerous and unwise message to send and even though Hannah did reach out to Adam a that one point when she was sick with OCD in bed, he had to literally knock the door down to get to her. That kind of thing makes me uncomfortable. And, then there's her argument to her therapist that Adam takes care of her, by giving her her medication and seeing to it that she eats right......come on. She's a capable woman who should not be dependent on a man for that. Once again.....I hate this message. He doesn't work for whatever reason and Hannah is actually HIS caregiver. Really messed up. 3 Link to comment
SunnyBeBe January 21, 2020 Share January 21, 2020 (edited) Well, I'm glad that some others are checking by! Hello! I wish that I had watched this series during it's actual run. I'm almost caught up on this series and have about 4 more episodes before the series finale. I don't know how it'll end up, but, already, I have some concerns about how this show seems to condone domestic violence. As progressive as the creator (Lena Dunham) is supposed to be, why does she seem so intrigued with characters who are domestic violence perpetrators? If she read anything at all about it, she'd know that punching walls, knocking down doors, throwing things, and yelling aggressively are violence and it doesn't mean someone is passionate or that they love you. It's sick, unacceptable and dangerous. I don't find it as humorous as she does. I've read that Lena has considerable health issues, so, I wonder if she will be able to work as much in the future. I watched during the original run and am currently rewatching. That is one of my biggest complaints about the show. As progressive and forward as Lena is, the show not only seemed to condone various bad behaviors but seemed to follow the formulaic damsel in distress stuff like all of the rest. 4 Link to comment
tres bien May 14, 2020 Share May 14, 2020 (edited) This is playing on Xfinity Watch A Thon week so I decided to revisit the series. I don't find it as interesting anymore. And most of characters are annoying to me. Edited May 15, 2020 by tres bien 3 Link to comment

Haven't seen her in anything else than Girls and The Flight Attendant. Annie is definitely different than Shosh, more confident, cynical. Link to comment
aghst January 20, 2022 Share January 20, 2022 Lena tells EW that she’s had informal talks with HBO about a reboot, similar to And Just Like that. https://ew.com/tv/lena-dunham-girls-revival-and-just-like-that-hbo-thr/ Hopefully it wouldn’t be too similar to the SATC reboot, that is, it wouldn’t suck.🤗 2 Link to comment
aghst February 8 Share February 8 Andy Greenwald and Amanda Dobbins discuss the ending and whether they stuck the landing, https://www.theringer.com/2024/2/7/24063112/girls-finale-latching-did-it-stick-the-landing I don’t recall the finale too well but a lot of it was about Hannah trying to get her baby to latch, how Lena seems so preoccupied with a conservative concern for a progressive person. They said she took off her clothes a lot, both literally and metaphorically, over the course of the series. I recall in the forums people would get pissed with her nude scenes and the show in general. 1 Link to comment

It seems like everyone, everywhere did. I wonder if the world would be kinder to them now? While the character was absolutely annoying the major criticism always seemed to be the nudity.
