OnceSane April 25, 2018 Share April 25, 2018 Quote Mirai Nagasu was one of the youngest figure skaters to win a national title in 2008 and earned a spot to represent the U.S. in PyeongChang at the age of 24, where she made history by becoming the first American woman to land a triple axel there. She performed the difficult three-and-a-half revolution jump, helping Team USA win a bronze medal in the team event. Link to comment
surreysmum April 26, 2018 Share April 26, 2018 (edited) Mirai Nagasu was the first American woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics. The first American woman to land a triple axel was a different contestant on this show, Tonya Harding. /skating pedant (PS - Tonya did it in 1991. She was not the first woman ever to do it (despite all the misinformation out there). That was Midori Ito in the 88/89 season. Since then, there have been other women who have landed it, including Americans, but Mirai is the first American to manage it during an actual Olympic Games.) "Including Americans"-the only other American woman who landed it was Kimmie Meisner at US nationals in 2005, and it was more of a "triple axel"-the reason people get credit for doing it in international competition is because nationals competition panels are notoriously lax, and most agree that she wouldn't have gotten credit for it if it was in international competition. But it was still a great effort! It's pretty crazy to think about how rare the triple axel still is/how many few women have still done it overall, since Midori and Tonya paved the way. neem April 27, 2018 Share April 27, 2018 Mirai Nagasu Says Tonya Harding Didn't Know Who She Was When They Met on DWTS Quote “What did she say when you met her?” Kit Hoover asked Nagasu on Thursday’s Access. “She didn’t know who I was,” Nagasu admitted with a smile. “But I know who she is.” Link to comment
Skittl1321 May 3, 2018 Share May 3, 2018 Mirai also represented the US at the Vancouver Olympic games. She finished 4th- not too shabby. Link to comment
boyznkatz May 4, 2018 Share May 4, 2018 Mirai is a class act. She never complained about Ashley Wagner getting picked over her in the 2014 Olympics when she should have been the one to go. Instead she worked hard and came back better. Yes, Tonya Harding could learn a thing from her about class and grace under adversity. 6 Link to comment

Adam and Mirai have pretty tough schedules with Stars on Ice going on at the same time. They had a show last night in MN. They miss camera blocking with the rest of the cast on Sundays because of their tour schedules, they took a red eye from IL on Sunday night last week to get to the first show. I believe Mirai and Adam were in LA for most of the week, and Jenna and Alan traveled with them to some of their weekend shows to practice in between.
