nymusix December 16, 2013 Share December 16, 2013 Shawn and Gus track down escaped playwright mad man named Z (Anthony Rapp), who six years earlier was deemed criminally insane after locking a critic in a back room of the theater that he burned to the ground. Shawn and Gus are forced to consult with the one person Z confided in while in the institution, a dangerous villain from Shawn's past. Link to comment
Lisin December 16, 2013 Share December 16, 2013 I liked all of the cameos/guest stars in this, however I didn't think the songs were that great. I mean everyone did a great job and all, but the songs were nowhere near as catchy as the songs in Once More With Feeling... I usually LOVE this show, but I was only meh about this episode. I also was confused because they kept acting like Shawn and Jules were 1) together and 2) she didn't know his "secret" but didn't she figure it out at the end of the episode at Lassie's wedding? Didn't they break up and have several episodes about it? Did I hallucinate a season of Psych? Link to comment

Much agreed, the songs just weren't good enough to justify a musical episode. 1 Link to comment
Vikitty March 30, 2014 Share March 30, 2014 The musical was supposed to air before Deez Nups but due to scheduling it couldn't end up that way, which is why Shules is still together. Link to comment
shapeshifter June 1, 2014 Share June 1, 2014 I stopped watching a couple of years ago, so just saw this for the first time. I believe I stopped after the first Yang go-round; it was too grim. But I really liked the musical, including Yang, but especially the dancing. The tango with Lassie! :D There were some Twin Peaks theme song strains near the end, weren't there? Link to comment
mstaken August 21, 2014 Share August 21, 2014 I'm curious to hear what others thought of the musical! Despite the fact that (or maybe because...?!) I'm not a Broadway fan, I absolutely love it. Not every song works perfectly, but a few are really catchy and amusing IMO. I'm also pleasantly surprised by the actors' voices. Aside from Corbin, most of them can actually sing. Not professionally, maybe, but...pleasantly :) And Lassie and Shawn dancing during I've Heard It Both Ways will never not amuse me. Link to comment
Trey August 22, 2014 Share August 22, 2014 Finally watched this last night. I agree the songs were okay but not wonderful - I thought the best one was (When You're) Making up a Song. The singing, especially Timothy Omundson, was wonderful. And the dancing! Loved Shawn and Lassie dancing together; wish we could have seen Gus's tap routine on stage. I didn't realize it was two hours when I started or would have waited for another night and started it earlier - by the end I was getting pretty tired and that probably contributed to my feelings of being underwhelmed. Which doesn't mean that there weren't plenty of good things about it, like the aforementioned dancing/singing. Loved the scene when they are interviewing Elisa in her doorway, when each one would push forward through the others to ask a question. And all scenes with Mr. Yang. I loved the way Ally Sheedy played her in all her episodes and I was so happy when we found out that she wasn't the serial killer after all (I know, that was in an earlier episode). And I loved that she fought the bad guy and saved Shawn, even sacrificing herself in the process. And that Mary Lively got her into heaven because "he knew a guy who knows a guy". Although I thought giving up your life to save another was a free pass into heaven. There was lots more that was good but overall I think it was too long and, as stated upthread, the songs just weren't that wonderful. I did like that they were at least original songs, not retreads. And maybe the Buffy musical spoiled me for all other musicals. 1 Link to comment
