It's time to bid a fond farewell to You've Been Gilmored, Perfect Dress and Nanny and the Professor (which I actually like, but I have especially strange taste in S4 episodes!) The next round is open, and this is the LAST time we'll vote against three :)

The Real Paul Anka may be cute, but not as cute as Pushkin...and now they've both been banished to cohabitate in that cutesy Dollhouse :)

I need to hear what others dislike about Pushkin, as it's an episode I'm very conflicted on!

The next round is open, and we're down to voting against just TWO!

At this point, I don't outright dislike any of the episodes. In fact, I actually probably like most episodes in the entire series except for maybe a handful. Even when there are storylines that make me groan, there's usually some redeeming qualities. Like Emily getting arrested totally saves S'Wonderful.

Anyhow, so I don't dislike Pushkin in its entirety, there's just many others I like more. What does it for me is that obnoxiously annoying Chilton student. I just wanted to slap her. Also, I hate the scenes where Marty is all into Rory, but she doesn't like him. They just make me feel bad.

Pushkin is also the episode where Marty won't open his mouth to tell Rory how HE feels about her, yet opens his stupid trap to tell her how LOGAN feels about her. Which inexplicably makes Rory do a 180 from "butt-faced miscreant" to "I want him in my pants, stat."

The only payoff is Marty telling Rory she's annoying. That can never be done enough (post S3) IMO, and I LIKE Rory.

ETA: I fully admit, I don't remember anything else that happens in this episode besides the Yale stuff.

EATA: Oh god! Luke's Dark Day that the town talks about but Lorelai never heard of and no one is capable of looking at simple dates to solve the impossible mystery! Just no.

Also, the Crazy Internet People's description for Pushkin includes "Marty finally clues Rory in that both he and Logan are interested in her" which is NOT what happens.

It's also the episode where Luke rages at an elderly nursing home-bound woman over his boat before we learn the origins of the Dark Day that literally everyone EXCEPT the people closest to him, Lorelai and Rory, inexplicably already know about :)

Hay Bale Maze (does this one have redeeming qualities that I'm just not remembering?  I have only seen it once, so it's possible.....)

FNAFF (sorry, but the much loved "clearing the air" Gilmore fight just grates on my nerves)

Most of that episode bores me, but I can't quite get rid of it yet, due to the moment between Luke and Lorelei in the maze.

FNAFF (sorry, but the much loved "clearing the air" Gilmore fight just grates on my nerves)

I'm in the minority, I think, but I LOVE that episode! All the little mini-fights crack me up.

I judge a lot of episodes by the number of times I FF through nasty scenes and Pushkin is a blur because there are so many cringe-worthy scenes.

  • The whole incongruous "Luke's Dark Day" premise - as if Lorelai (as well as the entire town) have not managed to suss out the reason for umpteen years.  They know everyone's business 30 seconds after it happens but this remains a mystery?
  • The pointless and endless scenes with ditzy Chilton student.  What the hell was THAT all about?  Who cares?
  • Luke screaming at the old lady.  Even for Luke that was over the top.
  • Any scene with Terrance the Life Coach.
  • And the absolute worst - the classroom scene.  Utterly appalling and a foreshadowing of how totally self absorbed smarmy Logan is.  My hatred for Colin and Finn grew exponentially with each passing moment.

The only redeeming feature is the Sting sequence and 90 seconds of a whole show just doesn't redeem the rest of it.

Why am I the only one who hates these two episodes!

Pulp Friction (Logan at his worst, IMO)
Questionable Morals (the town history stuff bugs me!)

Re Morals: the other plots are boring, but I love that dog storyline SO much I just can't vote against it. Not yet.

Ha--Kohola, how did I not know until now that you hated Logan?! I would love to hear more about why :-)

How do I hate him?  Let me count the ways. In a nutshell, Logan is a throwback to the progeny of wealthy landowners of the past.  Treat women like chattel (see Bridesmaids Revisited where Logan recites disparaging names for each of them but has slept with each anyway – and then blames them for “shooting their mouths off”) and Daddy’s money at the ready to pay for all of his transgressions with no stain on the Prodigal Son.

• Taking full advantage of his father’s wealth yet whining about having to step up and play a part in the company that he is happy to milk.

• The aura of entitlement – whatever wrong is done, the money will be there to bail him out.   No community service for our Logan in Yachtgate.

• No thought or care about getting a lowly maid fired for his shenanigans.  I bet he never knew the name of a single one of the maids in his family home….unless he was sleeping with her.

• The whole Life and Death Brigade tableau was so over-the-top pretentious.

• The ultimatum proposal – Logan’s way or the highway, no compromise allowed.  Richie Rich gets his way or you are booted out of his life.

• Colin and Finn as best friends – supercilious asses.  Hated their quippy replies to everything.

• The truly horrible skit in Rory’s class with no thought as to how it would affect her.  How totally embarrassing to someone as dedicated a student as Rory was.

In a nutshell, Logan was “all about me”.  Nobody else really mattered.

I'm so torn on Prodigal Daughter! I dislike a solid 95% of the episode, but that Lorelai/Rory reunion scene at the end still chokes me up :)

Yeah, I do kwym.  But at this point, up against the other eps, the 95% is enough to make me ready to toss it.  Heh.

The Prodigal Daughter is forever doomed to wander that maddening Hay Bale Maze, and the next round is open!

My votes: New and Improved Lorelai and Fight Face
