Bastet April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 (edited) Our thread for rumors of a third movie. I'm blatantly stealing the title from Roxy at TWoP, but there couldn't be a better one. So now, like the movie threads at TWoP, we have someplace to collect years worth of Gillian reiterating she has always said if there is a movie of course she will do it, David dropping the occasional "it's in the works" quote, Chris admitting he hasn't even written a script, and studio execs reminding us you're only as good as the gross of your last project. But, hey, maybe at the end of all that something unexpected happens - like the WGA strike that led Fox to greenlight IWTB - and we finally get that colonization film ... even though we're going on two years since The Big Day came and went. I hate colonization stories - and William, Mr. Key to Everything - so I'd be fine leaving M&S as we last saw them. And I really don't want the franchise to go out on yet another disappointing film. However, I hold out this fantasy of a script co-written by Frank Spotnitz (with Vince Gilligan as a consultant to make sure the relationship is written properly) and directed by Rob Bowman that really knocks our socks off and takes them out on the high note they deserve. As long as there is no reboot in my lifetime, I'll be fine. Edited April 25, 2014 by Bastet Link to comment
IndependentMind April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 For me, it just feels right for them to do the third and last movie. From the looks if it, both G woman and DD want to do it. I just love watching them. And I think finding William will complete that story. 1 Link to comment
Taryn74 April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 But.........there's NO TIME! Hee. As long as there is no reboot in my lifetime, I'll be fine. Yes, and yes. I personally think the ship has sailed, traveled around the world, and sank in a whirlpool by now, but if we ever got something great I would be the first one in line to see it. I appreciate IWTB for what it was - a nod to the fans, with a creepy MotW story and a whole lotta M/S goodness - but I also accept that it was never going to bring in the numbers they needed to do a third. And I'm okay with that. Mostly. 1 Link to comment
IndependentMind April 22, 2014 Share April 22, 2014 I think a third and final movie will bring in audience. It will make money. Link to comment
queequeg May 30, 2014 Share May 30, 2014 I would really like to see a 3rd movie, although I'm not going to get my hopes up until I hear of something concrete. The 1st movie roped me into watching the series regularly. I haven't seen the 2nd movie b/c somehow I completely missed that there even was one, going to watch it after we make it through all of the seasons, but I personally would like some kind of wrap up to the whole William thing. I am disappointed they missed the whole 2012 colonization thing, but whatcha gonna do.... I am concerned that they won't get a chance to do a 3rd movie. Seems the 2nd movie didn't fare so well? I'll still watch i (the 2nd movie), and probably like it, because well... it's x-files. But I'm concerned the interest just isn't there anymore for most people. Link to comment

And I think finding William will complete that story. Same here. But like others said, it seems as if that ship has sailed (no matter how much the actors want to reprise the roles) :(. The earliest now will be 2016... and how many people will still be around to care about M & S? Not that there won't be fans around... but there has to be enough of a fan base left to warrant it. It seems as if FOX doesn't give a damn either way though, tbh. As for IWTB, I still love it for the movie it was, flaws and all. It's M & S -- and it's nice. Link to comment
ElleryAnne May 30, 2014 Share May 30, 2014 I am disappointed they missed the whole 2012 colonization thing, but whatcha gonna do.... Agreed. That's a movie I would've loved. Or a miniseries, for that matter. But I guess it wouldn't have worked, since they'd killed off most of the characters who were involved in that mytharc. Link to comment

kbs October 16, 2014 Share October 16, 2014 http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/gillian-anderson-crowdfunding-x-files-movie-article-1.1973711 I'm in.Somebody set up an account, and I'm gonna send the money. I believe a project like this could easily gain momentum. A couple of more chemistry-loaded joint appearances, a nice setting for the announcement, and this film could basically pay itself. God bless her :). IIRC though, Frank kind of shot that one down (for now) some months back, when fans asked about it :(. At least for now. Here's a link to what Frank said: The information... Wow! There’s been quite an outpouring of excitement and enthusiasm these past few days over the idea of launching a Kickstarter campaign for X-Files 3. The idea is not new, of course, but the evident success of the Veronica Mars campaign has understandably given it new life. I have no doubt the passion and devotion of Philes would result in a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. I wish I could say I believed that would lead to a greenlight for X-Files 3, but I don’t. At least not at this point in time. I am only speaking for myself, of course, not for Chris Carter or 20th Century Fox. If my assessment changes, I will let you know. And I’ll be the first one to contribute. Until then, Don’t Give Up! What do you think of directors now turning toward Kickstarter to show interest in their work and get it made? Veronica Mars is getting a movie out of it. I think what people don’t quite understand is it’s not like you get a pack of money that you [then] get to spend it on making your movie or TV show. There are so many aspects to a production, including starting the business up, a production entity, accounting, marketing, insurance. And I’ve done this. It is a very complicated and tedious and necessary part of the process, and it’s something that I think is unappreciated by the folks who are taking the money and who are giving the money. There is a reason to be in business with the studio and there’s a reason to ally with people who’ve got these organizations up and running because it provides a structure within which you can be creative and focus on bringing your vision to life. <-- What Chris said. Source: vulture.com Not sure on Chris, but it seems as if he's not totally against it. But it remains to be seen. And in a way it's similar to what Frank said. What I bolded sounds along those same lines about the situation. Meaning Fox. @kbs: What she said in the article/interview you linked to (what I bolded) stood out to me. Me thinks something more could/might be holding it back. What she said imo speaks volumes. Don't think it's related to David and her in any way, I think it's between Chris and Fox... at least somewhat. "We could crowdfund an 'X-Files' movie," the actress told Bloomberg TV. "That (funding issue) is ultimately is what's keeping it from happening — other than Fox giving the go-ahead, which is not a small issue." Link to comment

I won't be. But also given something that DD said about Chris not having anything written yet, I'm rather skeptical. I'll have to go and dig it up if I'm able to. Link to comment
queequeg October 21, 2014 Share October 21, 2014 So do you guys really believe it's going to happen someday? I really want to believe (har har), but some days, like today, the doubts creep in and I worry that XF2 was the last we'll see. Link to comment

Been trying to keep positive, but given certain things... it's kind of hard to :(. As for XF2... I liked it :P. Flaws aside, I liked it as a movie. Link to comment
Bastet October 21, 2014 Author Share October 21, 2014 No, I don't think it's going to happen (and I'm fine with that). But I didn't think IWTB was going to happen, either, and then the WGA strike changed the whole landscape. So, another big change in circumstances could make me change my mind. 2 Link to comment
kbs October 23, 2014 Share October 23, 2014 This crowdfunding option made me believe for a little while. However, under normal circumstances, I can't think of a reason why Fox would greenlight XF3 given XF2's rather disappointing numbers, unless something unexpected turned TXF into something hot again. Yea that's where I'm at too. It's still ok, but is it a hot property... no :(. But to play devil's advocate -- I think even if it was hot, they wouldn't greenlight it either. They seem to have some issue with Chris or something. Link to comment

Bastet October 23, 2014 Author Share October 23, 2014 CC and Fox have gone through a number of disputes, yes, but if the studio thought they could make good money off XF3 they wouldn't hesitate to greenlight it no matter what any given execs may think of him. Link to comment

kbs October 23, 2014 Share October 23, 2014 (edited) Is there a way that doesn't hurt CC's feelings but lets somebody like Vince Gilligan or Darin Morgan write the script? Could that make a difference with Fox? Has a TV movie still been ruled out by all three parties (CC, DD, GA)? Edited October 23, 2014 by kbs Link to comment

It would be great (not so much Morgan though), but last I remember they (DD and GA) were only on board if Chris was doing it. Who knows... it seems as if they're obsessed with *cough*REBOOT*cough*. As far as I know, yes. Link to comment
queequeg October 23, 2014 Share October 23, 2014 No, no, no to a reboot. I cannot yet wrap my head around the idea of Mulder and Scully played by other people. Not yet, too soon. Give me another 20 years of X-Files withdrawal and desperation and then come ask me. But please, somebody fix the William mess. Here's something to cheer you up :). I'm kind of sad over things too. That song is ridiculous. lol I was like whut?! And then I saw in the comments it was Katy Perry. That explains a lot. :) Link to comment
Bastet October 23, 2014 Author Share October 23, 2014 I threw a fit when Johnny Depp wanted to do a Thin Man remake, and that was nearly 80 years after the original film, with the original actors dead for decades. There are some things I don't want touched, no matter who is involved. XF is on that list. 2 Link to comment

For gosh sakes, they're still alive :P. Agreed. Let the two of them find their son. I'd say the same for Perry Mason, even though it was done before Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale did them... at least leave the 50's, 60's, 80's and early 90's be. 1 Link to comment
