You probably already know about this, but there are websites/apps like Lotsahelpinghands where you can make a list of meals, chores, etc. that you need help with and your family and friends can sign up for them. So those that want to help can actually do something helpful. That's actually a really great idea. I think people sometimes send things because they feel like they want to help and don't really get that it is causing work. All they're really doing is making themselves feel like they did something good. And I think people usually do mean well, it's just a tough situation. Now, if it is your mother that is sick with cancer, using a site to send soup or chores seems like an odd response. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47924-s08e01-islide-re-think-fizzics-spoonful-of-comfort/page/2/#findComment-2639197

Well, some people live very far away from their aging parents, and their job/family commitments don't allow them to leave to be with their parents for the duration of the treatment (chemo rounds can take several months). In that case, you'd have to outsource most of the help, but even then I wouldn't get a gimmicky $80 soup shipment. More like hire a housekeeper to come in once a week to clean, grocery shop, and prepare a batch of healthy meals, a car service to take the sick parent to appointments, stuff like that. Yeah, I understand some people can't just pick up and travel, especially for long amounts of time. It just seems so impersonal to send something via a website though, I would think you'd want to be talking to them about what they need and how you can help with the most personal stuff. I was thinking the site would be more for friends or extended family who don't talk to you every day. I have heard of those sites, and right now my wonderful co-workers are coordinating sending meals home a few nights a week, and people from our church have been coming in to clean. I think having something to coordinate like lotsahelpinghands is great, makes it so much easier. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47924-s08e01-islide-re-think-fizzics-spoonful-of-comfort/page/2/#findComment-2639886
