DisneyBoy September 14, 2016 Share September 14, 2016 I'm surprised there isn't a thread devoted purely to recognizing the good performances that pop up from time to time and wondering if they'll get publicly honored...so let's start one! And yes, I think it's important to recognize the fact that the bar has dropped much lower than it used to be when they were multiple soaps on the air that were actually being well written and well performed...but, be that as it may... I think Billy Flynn should be nominated and in the running for a prize next year. He's had to show a lot of tears in the last few months but has also been terrific in the past with being a schemer, and a leading man, and a buddy and a conflicted son. Hell, he had to carry Kate Mansi for months and months on end, only to then be saddled with the gal playing Ciara. Man deserves a prize for that alone. I would also nominate Suzanne for her wonderful work as Maggie, even though it has been a bit one-note this year. Between losing Daniel and meeting and then losing Summer and the use of her legs, gal has been doing a lot of crying. But it has sure been impressive crying! I never liked her much in the past but I'm strangely invested in Maggie now seeing her suffer so consistently for the past 10 months. I'm not sure she would win in her category but the nomination would certainly be appreciated. I will gag and spew if Missy Reeves gets a nomination for her unbelievably shrew-ish performance as Jennifer. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/
LeftPhalange September 14, 2016 Share September 14, 2016 Kate Mansi better not get nominated for anything. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/#findComment-2565154
RedRockRosie September 14, 2016 Share September 14, 2016 I am so impressed with Billy Flynn. He lifts everyone who he shares scenes with...IMO he can do it all. (I am just so relieved he doesn't have to share with KM.) I do agree that there certainly are a few actors who just shine with the occasional bits of decent writing...I just enjoy the heck out of those performances. Wish there were more.... 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/#findComment-2565283
Kitty Redstone September 15, 2016 Share September 15, 2016 Totally agree about Billy Flynn and Suzanne Rogers. I think Jen Lilley and Arianne Zucker have done great work all year, too. Whenever Nicole tears up in grief over Daniel, it gets to me ... and I'm someone who couldn't stand Daniel and disliked the pairing. Greg Vaughn was also great during Eric's unraveling, though we saw far too little of it. That last scene of him on the bus in chains was a heart breaker. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/#findComment-2569727
DisneyBoy September 15, 2016 Author Share September 15, 2016 Greg should have been allowed to play Eric's descent more. He was screaming to turn into a bad boy and they never fully let him. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/#findComment-2569785
teacake September 16, 2016 Share September 16, 2016 Since the criteria for the Emmys are just who can put together two great episodes to make a reel, I could see Missy getting nominated for her 'rock bottom' episode plus one other from her spiral. Same thing for Stephen Nichols during the Ava storyline -- as much as I disliked some of the choices in the story, he had some great episodes that would play well with the voters. (I think MBE could too, but she just won, so.) I'd say Greg Vaughn if I could think of another episode to go with his exit. But beyond that I'm having a hard time with this year. If they gave Ximena Duque one more featured episode, to go with her episode dancing with Rafe, I'd add her as a wild card. I could see Olivia Keegan getting a nod for best younger actress, although I haven't been as impressed with her lately. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/#findComment-2571299
DisneyBoy September 16, 2016 Author Share September 16, 2016 Greg had the episode where Eric first kisses a distraught Jennifer. He was crying. It was pretty awesome. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/#findComment-2571796
BlackMamba September 19, 2016 Share September 19, 2016 (edited) It's going to be real hard to say anyone should get an acting nom since the first half of the year writing/story wise was meh at best. Yet if I had to consider someone(bodies) here are my early choices right now: 1. Lauren Koslow - I think she's making a strong case for herself to be in the supporting actress category. Even with what Josh Griffith, Beth Milstein, Dena Higley and now Ryan Quan has given her most of the year she has enough material to submit to make relatively good reel. Plus I want her to get her just do to finally get an Emmy nom. 2. Billy Flynn - hmm.. I dunno. I like him but again storywise this year hasn't been in his favor. Yes he can cry and give raw emotion but I'm not sure the whole package was there to get him past prenoms. There is still time with cut off for the Emmy submissions tends to be in mid-December and November Sweeps are around the corner. If he does turn anything he can definitely turn in the scene about redecorating the Dimera house and he went into a crying fit over losing Abby and any of current scenes with Melissa Reeves. 3. Kristian Alfonso - Yes I said it. Look I know she has enough scenes to put a reel together right now. Rumor has it there will be trial coming in November for Hope, so if the writers can get her some good scenes for her then who knows. . Granted the Hope story too has been tangly as well but the Emmy committee don't watch like we fans do, they only watch a handful of hours before making their choice. 4. Melissa Reeves - Again another wonky story but usually drug addict stories that are well performed gets noms. Her scenes with Jack in the stand alone episode. Her scenes with Billy like I said. 5. Vivian Jovanni - Yes I can't believe I said it myself ? I just won't be surprised considering Ciara had those rape scenes and she went into a dark place emotionally the first several months afterwards. Emmy committee loves these type of stories, I'm just hoping they don't like it because the actress is horrible, but due to behind scenes politics someone is bound to give her conservative reel to make it seem like she's some incredible young actress on Days and she's not. Plus there are not many young actresses that are good in daytime this year. Kiki on Gh, ugh. Summer on YR, been there did that. The only girls I see winning best young actress this year is Felisha Cooper on B&B Or Lexi Ainsworth on GH. LeftPhalange September 19, 2016 Share September 19, 2016 Just retroactively give Camila Banus, Alison Sweeney, Lauren Koslow, and Blake Berris awards for the "Dead Nick" story and call it a day. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/#findComment-2579025
DisneyBoy September 19, 2016 Author Share September 19, 2016 Maybe we'll get lucky and Claire will shine in the upcoming months, making her a viable alternative. Vivian has tried, bless her heart, but acts like she's in a school play. I would think Billy's reel wouldn't include that awful chair tossing scene but instead maybe his moments with ghost Stefano. He played a great mix of emotions in those scenes and it would certainly benefit Billy to be able to show that he rose to the occasion with one of the series most beloved veterans in his midst. I can't believe Lauren Koslow was never nominated in the past. I definitely hope she is, even though I can't think of anything she's done this year as Kate that would make for a good reel. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/47686-emmy-worthy-the-official-who-doesnt-deserve-a-statuette-speculation-thread/#findComment-2579249
