Aqli April 1, 2014 Share April 1, 2014 (edited) The first fully voiced MMO-RPG and the sequel to the Knights of the Old Republic games. Eight classes, eight stories and two dozen planets. I have to say, the thing I love the most about this game is the cut-scenes and the voice acting. It feels like you're in an interactive movie. They even have little conversations you can over hear from NPCs in the background. An even nicer touch is how your companion characters with make little comments about your environment as you travel with them (Kira Carsen's being my favourite). mad_typist April 3, 2014 Share April 3, 2014 I love the in-game voice acting. But the MMO features don't feel that revolutionary, and I feel like you do a lot of grinding MMORPG style when all I really want to do is run through the various class quests/storylines solo. I haven't played in months either, so my excitement sort of wore off pretty quick. Link to comment
jellysalmon April 7, 2014 Share April 7, 2014 I kind of want a non-MMO version of this game. I love the characters in KoToR I and II and it seems like ToR has some fun sidekicks to roll with, but I can't invest the time that MMO's require to find/recruit/befriend them all. Link to comment
Aqli April 8, 2014 Author Share April 8, 2014 (edited) There's a bit of variation in terms of how quickly you accumulate companions. Some classes, you're languishing with one companion for several planets so that by the time the second one shows up you're starving for someone new. Other classes, you get the first few companions fairly soon. Grinding is always a chore in any game, but at least there are multiple ways to do it in SWTOR. Vikitty April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 I literally bought the game because the Female Trooper is voiced by Jennifer Hale (of Mass Effect) and the first trooper companion is voiced by Timothy Omundson (who plays Lassiter on Psych) so mmmm porn for my ears. But ultimately it ended up being like every other MMO and I lost interest pretty quick. Link to comment
mad_typist April 16, 2014 Share April 16, 2014 I love Jennifer Hale's voice acting - I may go back in and do the female Republic soldier storyline JUST to hear her voice. Link to comment

I'd say the problem with TOR is the MMO trappings. The Old Republic would have made an AMAZING single player experience, but because of the need to stick in MMO mechanics and MMO pacing to the whole thing it loses a great deal of the appeal it could have had. Personally, I played it for about 6 months, taking my time, doing everything I could do, and only got through 2 characters and a little way into the 3rd before I lost interest. I'll probably pick it up again just to blitz through and finish up the rest of the character storylines one of these days, but I doubt that I'll enjoy it as much as I could have otherwise.
