raezen July 27, 2015 Share July 27, 2015 I guess no one saw it over the weekend and cares to report? Link to comment
Ohwell July 27, 2015 Share July 27, 2015 (edited) I haven't seen it but the guys on Mike & Mike gave it 3 stars out of 5. I just can't imagine Jake Gyllenhal as a boxer I don't care how much shape he got in for the role. Plus, he's beginning to look like wolf man. And 50 Cent creeps me the hell out so no I guess I won't be seeing it. Edited July 27, 2015 by Ohwell Link to comment
missbonnie July 28, 2015 Share July 28, 2015 (edited) I saw it and I loved it. It's brutal, emotional and raw. Yes, there are the usual clichés, but Kurt Sutter's writing overcomes those. Jake Gyllenhaal and Forrest Whittaker are exceptionally good. The music fits and the cinematography is good as well. From what I can tell people either really like it or really don't. As for the critical reviews, I never go to a movie based off of those guy's opinions. Edited July 28, 2015 by missbonnie Link to comment
Bruinsfan July 28, 2015 Share July 28, 2015 The trailer saved me $8 by giving me the Cliff Notes version of the whole movie—I don't need to see it now. Link to comment
Empress1 August 2, 2015 Share August 2, 2015 It's 15-20 minutes too long (while Hoppy was sweet, we didn't need that story), and the story is a bit pat. At the end I was like "But he's not going to fight again, right?" He was already showing signs of being punch-drunk before everything happened, and resuming your professional boxing career in your mid-thirties strikes me as unwise, but what do I know? My dad is a big boxing fan so I've seen a few fights. I was exhausted just watching the final fight. The storyline is a little trite but Whitaker's (I'm a big fan of Forest Whitaker) and Gyllenhaal's performances elevate it. And it's well-directed (I also enjoy Antoine Fuqua). Huge physical transformation for Gyllenhaal. I'm thinking of downloading the soundtrack and using it as a workout playlist. The trailer saved me $8 by giving me the Cliff Notes version of the whole movie—I don't need to see it now. Where do you live where movie tickets are only $8? :) Link to comment
Bruinsfan August 2, 2015 Share August 2, 2015 Arkansas, but that's matinee prices. I don't go to the movies at night unless it's one I'm REALLY sure I'm going to enjoy. Link to comment

methodwriter85 September 16, 2015 Share September 16, 2015 (edited) I liked it, but I don't know, something about it just felt forced. Like they kept piling on tragedy after tragedy on him, and it felt cheap for some reason. I kind of came into this unspoiled, so Rachel McAdam's death was kind of a surprise to me. beetnemesis September 17, 2015 Share September 17, 2015 This movie was depressing and sad for the most part. It was ok I suppose but it definitely covered every cliche in the book. I would rate this a very low 6/10. Link to comment
