Guest May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 The idea of the VP accidentally killing Rowan is cracking me up. For how stupid this season has been, it would be a perfect ending if Rowan foils whatever huge plan Olivia and Jake make to stop him, he's reveling in his victory, and somehow she offs him by dropping a paperweight or something in the middle of his victory speech. And then she just looks at the camera and says "Oops?" Fade to black. Link to comment
DB in CMH May 11, 2015 Share May 11, 2015 Has Shonda Rhimes ever explained where the B613 concept came from? It is so incongruent with the Scandal's romance/political intrigue theme. Olivia is a political consultant, it would make far more sense and there would be more drama and stories if her father was an ambitious Democratic senator in constant conflict with the White House. Her mother could have been a bored politician's wife who had an affair with Jerry, Fitz's father. In the rein of Meredith's family drama on Grey's Anatomy. Instead, Olivia's father is a blow hard know-it-all murderous spy and her mother is a terrorist. Seriously, where did this craziness come from? It is only the third season, if SR is bored already Scandal will not last much longer. Shonda was obsessed with Alias, which I assume is the inspiration for this stuff and why Scott Foley gets work on her series. I really miss the Scandal and seasons 1 and 2 - political intrigue, smart, sexy... those elements are still somewhat there, but outweighed by B613 non-sense and torture scenes. I think it would have been far more fun to have Papa Pope as a political kingmaker from the other side than the always-one-step-ahead kingpin of some clandestine organization. I don't know how they can even write themselves out of this mess. If B613 is not completely wrapped this week, I'm done. This has gone from a show I binged and watched live in season 3 to one that sits on the DVR until I can convince myself to watch it. Link to comment
JenE4 May 12, 2015 Share May 12, 2015 Chiming in on the comments about how the biggest (or a big, as there are many) show issue is the relationships and human aspect of this show is missing. I completely agree! With the loss of Harrison and Abby as the Gladiators, and Quinn developing from a nervous girl to a psycho mini Huck, Olivia just not being herself since her kidnapping, and no one being there to reign in Huck's crazy--in fact, now Huck and Quinn are out-crazing each other, it's just yuck! I suppose Jake is now an unofficial Gladiator (Is he on the payroll? Does he get benefits or does he need to get Obamacare, which would be Grantcare in this reality, I guess?), and he's the ONLY one in this bunch who more often than not (but still sometimes not) seems to have a good head on his shoulders and tries to keep the gruesome twosome (Huck and Quinn) and sad-sack Olivia from going off the rails--but they've gone too far off the rails. When we had more gladiators (Abby, Harrison, even Steven) and Olivia was on the ball, it was Boom! Gladiators getting shit done! Huck was kept on a short leash and was only allowed to huck out when it was absolutely necessary. Now we got Huck and Quinn being psycho whether it's warranted or not, Jake also being psycho if it's warranted, and Olivia having her own brand of psychological disconnect with PTSD that she doesn't even seem to know what's going on. She's like a grandmother with dementia. Sometimes she's lucid and we can say, oh, there's our Olivia, and then she'll just crumple and Gladiators go crazy! And the White House is now COMPLETELY disconnected from Olivia Pope & Associates. On paper they seem like they have better storylines going on there because at least they're still getting things done, but since there's NO connect between Olivia & Fitz, or Olivia & Fitz & Mellie, or even Cyrus & Olivia & Fitz, I just don't care about them anymore. Olivia Pope & Associates needs a psychiatrist on the paroll stat. Get Huck and Quinn help for their psycho-sexualized obsession with killing and give Olivia some treatment for PTSD and an anti-depressant. 1 Link to comment
tabbybear May 14, 2015 Share May 14, 2015 I liked the original Huck and Quinn but their off the rails versions not so much. I too am bored with B613. Here's hoping for a good finale and redemption next season. Link to comment
hendersonrocks May 16, 2015 Share May 16, 2015 Just watched this one, and I echo alllllllll the complaints with Bwhateverthatwillnotend (please god, make it end) and the torture porn. And the deep desire to have Susan Ross and a case of the week be the future of this show. What really, really, really has me upset, though, is the viewer discretion warning that was at the start. They don't do that every other week when they're pulling out fingernails or drilling kneecaps or pulling teeth or shooting people in the head. That leads me to assume that the warning was because of--god forbid--the sight and sound of an abortion. So for once, I'll give kudos to Shonda for GOING THERE and showing what it really is and save all my scorn for this fucked up place we're in where THAT is what gets a viewer discretion warning. Be better, America. /endrant Link to comment
