I think perhaps Tristen is threatened by Massimo because he fears he's more talented and maybe even has an advantage in the competition being Canadian. They're two Alpha males and Tristen may be the more insecure one that has to be top dog. Massimo actually appears to be less focused on how everyone else is doing relative to him and is just trying to do his best.

Although we really don't know how much the loss of his stepdad is affecting Tristen at this point. It could be a lot and that's why we're seeing this behavior. No excuses for that but it could be a factor.

Massimo is comedically alpha male, where Tristen is more subtle about it, but they are both dominant personalities. I noticed that every time Tristen has won a challenge, Massimo has clapped and smiled and looked genuinely happy for him. He makes his grumpy face when he gets criticism from the judges, and he was definitely disappointed that his pizza wasn't on top, but I don't think he took it out on any of the other chefs, or had his displeasure targeted or indicated feeling victimized. I see him being a pretty good sportsman in this game overall. He led a yoga class for goodness sakes! LOL.

Tristen is a good guy, but he's bringing some baggage from what he has experienced in his life, trauma is a real thing. His resume is incredibly prestigious and he's worked in amazing kitchens across the globe and achieved a lot- he should be really proud of himself and not compare himself to anyone. It may be a combo of ego and unaddressed trauma that is bringing Tristen down right now.

Just rewatching before the new episode.  Kristin (while they are waiting for the main heat dishes to be served), says something like “the culture of food in Canada….” and the bald guest judge practically rolls his eyes.  Canada has 10 provinces, 3 territories and is larger than the US.   You can’t make such sweeping generalizations.  Especially since they were featuring Montreal which prides itself on its uniqueness.

It's probably just me, but I'm underwhelmed by this season-and I really wanted to love it as I love Canada.  That's one reason I'm behind on the episodes.

I don't remember every detail of every season, although I have watched them all, but it seems to me that this is one of the weaker casts and perhaps that's why I'm not as involved as a viewer.  It seemed as the experience/quality of the chefs had been improving, but somehow this season seems a step backwards.

Although Vinnie seemed really nice, he, unfortunately was giving me Ilan vibes (how I shudder just writing that) in that he pulled from dishes that he made in various restaurants.  I get that he wanted to honor his deceased mentor, but that's not this show.  Oh, and yes, while he reminded me of Ilan, Vinnie was waaaaaay nicer.

There also seem to be more chefs 'learning' who they are during the process rather than coming in with a clear point of view.

Anyway, wasn't surprised Vinnie went home and IMO it was overdue.

I think this describes how I feel.  Been unsure why I'm so underwhelmed because the food all looks really good, flavor pairings that my unsophisticated childlike palette could never dream of.  But aside from Massimo, there haven't been any BIG personalities.  Bailey/Eeyore is a whole other type of personality, but she's growing on me. All this time I've wanted "just focus on the food!" and now that it seems more of that... okay maybe i want more personality lol
