S01.E08: Atonement

Recommended Posts

Those heart-to-heart conversations between Kacey/Thomas and Kacey/Mickey are emotionally compelling.

OVERALL:

This show is so damn boring. TBH, I didn’t watch all the episodes — only episode 1, 2, 7, and 8. I couldn’t stand the slow pacing, the clunky flashbacks and the filler scenes.

LBR is the meandering version of Happy Valley and Mare of Easttown. It feels like am being pulled in different directions.

The happy ending is fine but LBR sweeps a lot of things under the rug. What actually happened to Truman and Mickey that led to his leave of absence? What’s the point of Truman’s gambling addiction? Simon faces no repercussions for his bad behavior. And why is Dock McClatchie suddenly a good guy?

And ohh, Thomas is the most matured 7yo I have ever seen on TV. Mickey, just let him be a kid. 🙄

I liked this series. Agree that it dragged at times. Probably could have not watched episodes 5&6.  It still kept my interest.
I also wondered what happened to end the first partnership between Mickey and Truman. How come Mickeys dad didn’t try to connect with her sooner? Why did the street women beat the shit out of Mickey? What did Mickey do for work after quitting the police force?
Thomas was autistic, I think that’s why Mickey treated him the way she did, he was very mature and smart.
I’m glad there was a happy ending.

He wrote letters that G-Pop kept from Mickey (or maybe they were "returned to sender").  And with no response, probably gave up, until he connected with Casey.  Then Casey placed them in the secret hiding spot.

The end scene shows Thomas getting out of school wearing the same clothing as the other kids, like their school uniform?  Since Mickey can't afford private school, maybe she works there which would allow Thomas to attend.

No clue.

These are just guesses on my part.

A lot of public schools have instituted a type of uniform, one or two colors of shirts and khakis, etc.

This is to stop kids wearing items that could be stolen because of their value, or to be picked on because they can't afford nicer things. Locally there are programs that collect donations so that low income families can afford the necessities.

As far as the show overall, I liked it at first but it just became ridiculous. At one point during Mickey's roaming around looking for Kacey or whoever, I said to the tv "isn't she supposed to be at work?? "

Ahearn hates her, but lets her get rid of her partner. AND he's covering up Lafferty's shenanigans. AND Mickey's too stupid to drop a dime on him and tell IA of his involvement in the drug schemes.  And she's too stupid to realize she had another partner who would have been on duty recently and using a badge to coerce the women. Seeing as how Truman had been on medical leave.

I recognized the actor playing Simon from when he was on The West Wing.

And what is with them going around in street clothes interrogating people?

She broke so many rules it's a wonder she wasn't fired sooner.

I read the series played out differently from the book. . I was rather glad to see that, because President Obama had this book on his list of favorites and it made me question his taste.

Amanda Seyfried is a good actress, she proved that in the Elixabeth Holmes show.  She's better than this nonsense.

Mickey and Kacey suggested that Ahearn was in on it since he was friends with both Lafferty and Jimmy. But even if he weren't and only knew about what Lafferty was doing, it would be smart to get Lafferty away from Mickey when she started looking deeper into the ODs. She's smart and she cared about the women so the odds were good that she was going to figure out that Lafferty was involved. To protect Lafferty and himself, Ahearn would have agreed to let Mickey drop Lafferty.

Emily/Melissa told Kacey that the murderer is Mickey's partner. Kacey told Mickey that it's Truman because that is who she thought Mickey's partner was. After Mickey blew up her relationship with Truman, she went back to Kacey and pressed her for Emily's exact words. As soon as she heard the word "partner", she figured out that it was Lafferty and called Detective Danjarat who checked out Lafferty's place and found the insulin.

In the last scene with Danjarat, they are talking about IA investigating Ahearn. Ahearn was denying that he had anything to do with the drugs. Mickey suggested to Danjarat that he may be willing to talk in exchange for a plea deal.
